Feel free to properly label threads and reorganize them, and if you lock "useless" or "trout" threads, maybe you can label them as an alert that that particular topic has been discussed.

However, I'd prefer you not delete anything unless it's abusive, obscene, vulgar, etc. (with the exception of the occasional double-post hiccup). Sometimes listening to the "useless" noise can still trigger that eureka moment for someone else.

Edit away.. In general, I agree with SpaceBass, but I would trust you to let anything with relevance be. The trouts, the posts SAYING trout and completely redundant posts should be deleted.. As you say, to preserve some sort of order.. But in the case of doubt, I would leave a post be, rather than deleting it... For now, at least.

Delete posts that usualy starts with, "I didn´t read the whole thread, but how about...." and says something that is already being considered obvious or was said 3 or 4 times before.

It would be nice to receive posts just from registered members, which is a common practice. I think this would avoid lots of spammers in the future, when the discussion will be deep in the rabbit hole.

i don't think avoiding ALL redundancy would be a good thing, but yeah, stuff like the translation of the MetaWallpaper gets old...but then, they could sneak a new code into the wallpaper and nobody might ever notice unless some newb went and translated it and posted it and voila, new clue. I just hope stuff like that won't get cut off, because we NEED some dumb, blind luck here in some cases....So yeah, some consolidation would be nice, but i think it'd be better if we all just stuck to a more strict format as community members, rather than putting a harsher workload on the mods. If you made posting registered-user only then you could at least post some 'guidelines' on the registration page maybe? That way we can kinda keep this stuff clean ourselves. Hard to do with something as exciting and chaotic as this though. Anyway, just thought i'd drop some thoughts....

Not exactly staying in topic, but I'd love to see a Guide a la Steve's for LJ or Mr Hon's for beast. The current one (at http://www.cs.uiowa.edu/~mlpatter/matrix/ ) reads more like a "trail" (summary of info) than a "guide" (complete detailed walkthrough) although a trail is very helpful.

I vote for moderation, in moderation. Given that this is my first ARG experience, and looking at how involved Beast and AI were, I think we'll need to winnow out some chaff. I would also lean toward registration - helps if you know who you're talking to across different sites (so long as people use a consistent User ID, of course). It also means we won't get yutzes like the Underslept website guy, or whoever posted the (bogus?) Phillip Gairden number. I think this game will attract a lot of piggybackers like that.

Perhaps I worded my earlier reply a little too kindly; it was not merely a suggestion. This is how I run my forum. I'm not inclined to require registration just to post, and I don't like information being deleted. Thanks for your understanding.

I voted for registration earlier, but given that a mod has just deleted one of my posts, which contained useful information, just so that he/she could add it to a post of their own, I have to say I would vote against it now.
