Found it in a forum about creepy stuff. Best coincidence ever. I think at the time, Entry #14 had just come up, so yeah, been a fan for a long time.

My boyfriend had been following the Slenderman Mythos for awhile, and found MH . . . he shared it with me around August of last year . . . so towards the end of the waiting period (I know, I'm kind of a n00b) and I have been hooked ever since. My whole world has been turned upside down by this series . . . I've dabbled with EMH and Tribe Twelve, but MH is my first slenderman love/ the only one that really successfully keeps me up at night. I got a twitter just to follow Marble Hornets, after years of saying I would never, ever get a twitter. Obsessed.

First post, btw!

A friend of mine sent me the link, knowing that I would like it since I always complain that horror movies don't do atmosphere right. Razz

I think the newest video at the time was Entry #22.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxe1fX4ExGw This video by Vicious516.

I subbed him because he makes some weird videos, then one day he talked about this Marble Hornets thing all the kids seem to be watching these days.

Decided to watch, and Entry #1 got me interested.

Fucking tumblr.

So, I started a new tumblr with a friend, and I was clicking around on our first few followers links and came across the picture of "The Slender Man", with the girl on the slide. I didn't even see him at first, but I read that simple description and lost. My. Shit. No simple JPG every terrified me so much. I eat horror movies for breakfast, read horror novels, have chronicalled every kill Jason ever made (which means I've willing watched Jason takes Manhattan twice...), and have a real but only slightly crippling zombiphobia, which sometimes means I stay up all night listening for the moans of the undead.. and this picture scared me more than anything ever did.

I freaked out. I copied the link and posted it on my twitter with the desperate message of "OH GOD IS THIS REAL TELL ME IT'S SHOPPED I CAN'T TELL BY THE PIXELS FUCK FUCK" and proceeded to send it to every single one of my friends. Eventually, my friend Mike responded with a simple, "Lololol Slenderman, yeah, duh it's fake" and linked my to the SA thread. Like many people, I read every post, and from there went to TV tropes and from there tried to watch Marble Hornets. I watched the intro, and thinking I was clicking on the next video, ended up watching all of TT.

And then I watched all of Marble Hornets and THEN, then came EMH, and I fell in love with the ARGness of it, the geocached boxes and the sister tumblr account and.. And I haven't looked back.

It's important to note that when my husband suffered through all of EMH with me, he got incredibly freaked out. So much so, that that night, he was panickedly sleeping and sweating so much he felt like he had been dunked in water. I pulled the blankets off of him, and IN HIS SLEEP HE PULLED THE BLANKETS BACK OVER HIS HEAD.

That was a few months ago, though I didn't really look atUF much until a comment on The Tutorial led me to Angel's Game, and I realized I've only been getting half the story.

And now I'm obsessed, have been for.. the past.. twoish? months?.. putting off my lit review to bum around on UF, but I think I can fit ARGs into my Masters, so.. that's good.

ADDED BONUS: I 'infected' my best friend and the two of us spent a few days gibbering insanely. Now Slendy is an NPC in my weekly table top session.

Hi all, thought this be the best place for my first post as I'm still getting to grips with all the entries at the moment and my own theories/interpretations!

I'm a big youtube fan, one minute I'm watching a vid about a string theory, the next I'm watching a vid about a hicupping panda Very Happy

I don't know how it happened, but a marblehornets entry must have appeared in the related video's section and there I clicked (I don't even know which one). I was hooked. Watched all uploaded entries, then I found jay's twitter, watched all of tta's entries, googled. Googled some more and here I am now Wink

I discovered this forum about a week or two ago, and I've been lurking ever since. This seems like the appropriate thread to say hello. I got into Marble Hornets last summer. It was kind of an accidental thing.

You know how every kid has their own version of the Boogey Man? For instance, my sister's had a red baseball cap and was kind of lovable. Unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky -- mine was a tall guy in a dark suit with a bowler hat. I was terrified of that thing, and used to have vivid nightmares up until I was five or so, around the time my sister was born. Then I forgot about it completely, aside from the random bad dream here or there.

One night at work (I work nights at a pediatric hospital), I was browsing through some random creepypasta when I stumbled upon the whole Slender Man thing. My reaction was immediate -- I flew back in my chair and almost started crying. My co-workers thought I was having a seizure.

From that point, I've had a morbid fascination for the whole mythos -- why was my Boogey Man suddenly on the internet(s)? This has earned me many sleepless days, but also a festering point of interest. In a sense, it has kind of become a point of psychological study: What is Slender Man; What type of archetype does he represent?; Why does he inspire so much terror when all he really does is stare at you?; What sort of thing did I tap into when I was a child, and does it lay dorment inside all of us?

As for my own experience, I blame the fact that I was introduced to horror movies and literature at a very young age (after all, I grew up in a place that is, in all seriousness, called "Zombieland" because that's where the original Night of the Living Dead was filmed; as a side note, Tom Savini lives across the street from me here in Pittsburgh.), and also my grandparents were from County Cork, Ireland, so I lived in fear of fey creatures from birth. My imagination has always been fertile ground for inventing new and improved ways of scaring myself, which is probably why I like writing horror fiction so much.

When I first started watching MH, I couldn't do it -- I think it took me a month or so to be able to make it through a whole video where Slendy made an appearance. I eventually got a few friends into it, and we spent the autumn discussing it over beers on the weekends.

As for the other series, I don't find them quite as interesting. I've studied them; I'm just not a fan.

Well, I guess that's it for my lengthy hello. tl;dr I probably should've gone to school for anthropology.

It was December/January and I was at home on break hanging out with my best friend. Her boyfriend at the time was into Marble Hornets and while we were watching videos she played me a few entries out of order. I thought that they were stupid, but after seeing a couple of Masky and the famous head turn I got into it. Eventually I declared it not stupid and started following it regularly.

For me, it was a distraction from school and the like. I heard about something called Marble Hornets, but I was honestly going to myself 'The hell kinda name is that? It's prolly gonna be lame.'

But I was also into creepypasta at the time, and everyone and their mother was buzzing about MH and, of course Slender Man, so I finally checked it out around the time Entry 8 came along. I wasn't impressed at first, but I grew more curious about it, and then, the blizzard of '10 hit my side of the world... and my dad was in the hospital for surgery [he's ok! Very Happy] and I was left at home for ten days to hold down the fort.

So, I went back to MH, which I had subscribed to but couldn't enjoy due to school and stress and dad being ill, and I watched everything, start to finish, with no distractions and the snow piling up outside... alone.

._. those ten days were filled with jumping at every sound I heard and sleeping on the couch to avoid doors. [blame 14 and my general craziness.] So here I am, the evilblackbunny of the internet, and a MH total fantard to boot. ^^ I'll be quiet now.

It's all Sylvines fault xD

At the end of June, last year was when I discovered both Slenderman and MH. [Looking back at stuff from that night, I'm rather sure it was the 28th.]

I was on deviantART checking my messages, and a sketch came up in my devwatch that caught my eye. It was a crossover picture of 'Hanna is Not a Boy's Name!' and one of the original Slenderman pics. Of course, I was confused as to what Slenderman was, so I looked it up, and after reading up on it on a couple of websites, one of them mentioned 'Marble Hornets', and so my addiction began. I watched it all in one night; something I somewhat regret, considering by the time I was finished, it was late night/early morning.

I was at a thing with a bunch of my friends and one of them was teasing me (cause I'm scared of everything) saying that Slenderman was going to get me. I didn't know what Slenderman was at the time, and when I asked he got all excited, telling me about stories and myths and stuff (I have a lot of nerdy friends). And he was like 'Oh my god, you have to watch these videos on youtube.' So we went on my phone and spent the whole night watching Marble Hornets (totheark and all) and EverymanHYBRID.

I was like really freaked out (I still can't watch Entry 19 and Return without freaking out haha), but also in love with Marble Hornets. I've been hooked ever since =D

I saw a creapy-pasta thread on the escapist and somebody pulled out the original Slenderman stories, more or less out-doing everything else in a single post. But then he get out-done by a fellow who linked to entry one through 11 (I think thats how far it had gone at that stage) and the thread swiftly turned to talking about Marble hornets.

Since then I've dragged in as amny people as I could.

I shared this link with my friends, of course.

Oddly enough, I remember being unimpressed with the introduction and didn't give the rest of the series another thought until my friends called me up freaking out about how there was someone in the window. They picked me up and I watched Marble Hornets that night.

It may have been because I was surrounded by people and couldn't really get into it, but it didn't scare me much then. But as the days went by I found myself thinking about it more, and watched it again. Then I found the SA thread, Unforum, KnowYourMeme, etc.

I'm hooked now, and Slender Man scares me senseless xD. It's all their fault.

Wow - never seen this top 9. Thanks for pointing me towards it.
