Regarding the nature of Tim/Masky, I'm surprised nobody (that I've seen) has made an analogy that seems appropriate to me:

Tim/Masky:Slenderman/Operator :: Silver Surfer:Galactus

To my mind, at least, this helps explain Masky's gradual transition from seeming totally menacing to seeming helpful but constrained.

To those not in the know, Galactus is a planet-eating alien who recruited a human-sized guy to serve as his herald, the herald's duties being to seek out planets ripe for devouring and to make first contact with the inhabitants of Planet Lunch. To aid his herald, Galactus imbued the Surfer with a portion of his cosmic power. Over time, the Surfer began to rebel and use his borrowed powers to work against his master.

Am I totally off base (and geeky) to think that sounds familiar within the context of MH?

Totally plausible, and as a nerd myself I love the analogy. The Operator has imbued Tim with The Power Cosmic CREEPY!

I'm waffling on this whole idea of Slendy having his own dimension. I can totally see your point, and I can get how the guys of MH would need to settle on a visual representation for their extra dimension like the business suit and the basement. But at the same time, writing about the changes in height and such in regards to Marble Hornets seems to be pushing it! I've always thought that those changes in height were not quite deliberate, but something forgivable in light of the fact that they were experimenting from episode to episode. (They're not designers, as far as I know, who need to pay anal-retentive amounts of attention to detail!)

Anyways, having Masky be originally a Slender-minion who's gone rogue is an interesting one. It all seems too convenient that TTA has been able to follow Jay no matter where he goes and is herding him to Alex, though. He's too malevolent for me to really think he's a third party acting outside of Slendy's influence... though the fangirl in me can hope!

Silver Surfer used as an analogy for Tim: AWESOME.

I dunno, I'm still torn over the idea of Masky being Slenderman's helper. If he WAS, i kind of like the Silver Surfer analogy: he got the power, but now he's using it for his own means.
He's been really malevolent, but I don't know. I was entertaining the idea for a while that he was trying to scare Jay AWAY from the case (which actually worked after Jay's last visit to the house.) Of course 26 counters this idea
UNLESS
of course, the tape at the end of 26 wasn't sent by TTA at all, and was actually sent by alex/amy/third party who wants Jay to come after Alex.

I think Tim tried to make Jay thing nothing strange was happening when they spoke in person, but when that failed, he took on the Masky persona, likely acting outside Slenderman entirely, and tried to scare Jay off, but was thwarted due to his own long-term exposure to Slendy. I don't really think he has any real power of his own, but he knows how to use the aforementioned Slendy-dimension, explaining how he was able to mindfuck Jay during that whole house chase, and also how he was able to come into Jay's house willy nilly, likely in a further attempt to scare him. Once Jay was out of the game, Alex got into trouble as shown in 26 so Masky called him back into action, and in Part 2 we may very well see a Jay-Masky team-up to save Alex.

Just my, probably already thought of, two cents.

It'd be interesting to see Masky team up and then screw over Jay, or vice versa. I think I just want to see more of that "what the HELL are you getting at?!" confusing behavior from him.

Man, I hope that Part II starts up soon. I really miss seeing new tweets and TTA posts and hijacking of Jay's account. XD

Anyone else still wanna see that "try out" footage he was supposed to do with tim? I know we say pre-questioning, but we never saw the actual try out. Maybe we would have gotten more facial expressions or hints out of that?

Tryout footage? Sorry I didn't read the whole topic seeing as it's about midnight, but if it's on youtube, can you post the link?

I think that he means Entry #15, where Jay's interviewing Tim -- supposedly after that first bit of questioning they did a bit of the Marble Hornets script for tryout... though we never see it!

I want Part Two to start, too.
But not for another few weeks, so that I'll be on my college campus with roommates who I can clutch at while I'm frightened. I really like the idea that the first post of the new "season" might not be from Jay but from TTA or even one of the other cast members.
If masky and J did end up cooperating, I can see masky throwing J to the wolves per say if things started getting chaotic or it looked like Operator was catching up with them. You know, to avoid getting eaten by a bear, you don't have to run the fastest. Just faster than the guy behind you.

Also, on the "tryout" footage , J probably didn't post it because he didn't think it was relevant. As far as we know, right now he has no idea Tim is Masky. So he has no reason to be reading his facial expressions, etc.

It'd probably just be more of that horrid script and acting like we saw with Tim on the gazebo with Sarah X3 lawl, nah, I kid. Still, too much Alex Kralie script is probably a bad thing. Smile

I felt from the start that Masky was never in association with The Operator. I thought he was either a silent helper, or a rogue. If they do work together, I imagine him sacrificing himself instead of throwing jay to the bears.

If they do this, I hope they subvert that trope like a motherfucker. Movies ALWAYS have the 'other' character make a noble sacrifice, and Masky's about as 'other' as it gets... though how to subvert that kind of trope without the aforementioned Masky tossing Jay to the Operator to save himself, I'm not sure! It seems like it would reveal way more about the character than the makers want us to know about him right now. I'm sure that at some point they'll have to lay their cards down on the table, but Masky seems like the kind that they'll want to reveal with the biggest bang possible. X3

Yeah, I was hoping that they wouldn't stoop to the over used after so much originality.

I do have a feeling that whenever the Big Reveal happens with masky, it won't be something typical or heroic. Especially not with a character who's behaved so erratically and mysteriously; predicting his actions isn't exactly easy. I still stand by him doublecrossing anyone who gets in his way to achieve his goal; be it J, Slendy, Alex... Who knows, though, he could turn out to be helping someone o.o
Whenever we find out what the hell is going on with him, I have a feeling everyone is either going to be screaming because they never saw it coming, or screaming because they were totally onto it the whole time but then started second-guessing themselves into not believing it. (A'la Alex being alive in 26; I had convinced myself he was dead after I decided he couldn't be TTA.)

....Also, Dray, love all the TvTropes language... I spent six hours on that site last night. SIX. There is no way to leave once you get on there.
