 Creative Commons
Attribution while keeping a secret?

I'm involved in a project that will be using several images under Creative Commons. Unfortunately, giving them the attribution required under CC will give away some secrets before the proper time.

Has anyone run into this problem before? Can I just wait until far along in the project before giving attribution? It would probably be about 2 months before I can comfortably do that.

I think it's fair to leave out attribution when it's not appropriate, as in your case, as long as you provide it at some later date (within reason). If you hold a PM chat or have a credits page for your game, give it there instead.

Are you quite sure that no one one your puppetmaster team can create a similar image? ARG players can be very tenacious at times in finding source materials.

Is there no way of contacting the author(s) of the images? It is possible that they might give you extra permissions if you ask nicely.

We'll probably altering the original images for our purposes. Creative commons requires attribution in either case.

We did ask for explicit permission but never got anything one way or the other. That's why we're going the CC route. I was just hoping someone here had similar experience.

We're just going to go ahead and use it and offer attribution in about 8 weeks when the game wraps up. If we get a complaint, we'll figure out what to do from there.

Thanks guys.
