I received no invitation,
nor any form of rhyme,
but through notification,
I hope I've come in time.

The colour purple favoured,
hard to reflect indeed,
unless willing to gain strange looks,
from those on dirtied streets.

Once more, please grant entrance,
for me unto this game,
as for the other insolents,
I swear I'm not the same.

Sorry to burst in like this, but I've read your correspondence with others and I'd like to have a hand at this. My favorite color is purple, for what it's worth, although I expect that portion of the game may have ended.

In regards to the number four in it's relation to Adam and Eve and their two sons: the Biblical scholar will remember that Adam and Eve had one more son of note (they had many children eventually, many of which are named in the Bible, but only three of importance), Seth. This bumps your number up to 5. Now, an estranged member of the family: Lillith, if you subscribe to the apocryphal texts. Does her inclusion bring us up to 6? Or does her exile bring us back down to four?

In the hopes of getting clues about his next number.... Got this back:

Quote:
The next number is further,
In Biblical time
We branch off to tale
in these next rhymes.

God was quite careful,
when he chose from the muck.
Although scholars have questioned,
how it effected ducks!

So we're looking for a story further ahead in the Bible. But, uh... ducks?

EDIT: Maybe the number is two? As in "two of every animal." How would the deluge have affected Ducks, after all?

EDIT AGAIN: And.... then I read the rest of the thread, and someone has already guessed two. Don't trout me, please Embarassed

Yep yep yep. I'm thinking the story of Noah. "God was quite careful when he chose from the muck" would be God choosing Noah out of all the terrible people on the Earth (the muck). I dunno why he mentions ducks specifically, but I'm thinking it's just a hint toward animals and it rhymes.

I would guess two for the answer to this poem. I know two was wrong earlier, but maybe it was just wrong for the Adam and Eve one.

I may send an email to him. I am interested.

edit: I believe the answer may be either "20" or "3"

The Bible lists 20 fowl that are abominations and cannot be eaten. Old mistranslations placed the Swan (a member of the duck family) in the list, but newer ones have corrected it to "horned owl." The specific verse that lists the number of birds has 3 in it, but the larger context is twenty. I guessed 3, but someone else is welcome to try 20.

Quote:
You didn't reply to the last message I sent
I couldn't guess what that possibly meant
Your manners are indeed quite poor
But I still want to play in your little event

I went to the thread and for all to see
Was a message from you, though not to me
The old translation was indeed quite fowl
But believe me sir, your number is three

I may be late to this party but I said before I picked yellow. I got this back.
Quote:

Your happiness chose yellow
as your favorite color;
But beware an acidic shade at this pH
becomes another.

I'm thinking he's talking about some indicator in science, like Bromothyl Blue.
I'm going to go ahead and respond with a little rhyme about it

I would agree that he's talking about a pH indicator, but there are several out there that include yellow in their spectra. This is a pretty big hint, I think: we're looking for an indicator that is yellow in basic/neutral solution, and not yellow in an acidic solution. The pH that it shifts at is the number that we want. I'm guessing this will be a whole number, and based on the indicators listed here, the number will be 2 (Thymol Blue), 3, 4 (Methyl Yellow), 5, 6 (Methyl Red), or 7, 8 (Neutral Red). I know it doesn't narrow it down too much, but it's a start.

If you already tried 2, and that was wrong, then we can cross that off the list. Mos tried 3, so we'll see about that. I would guess that Methyl Yellow would be the indicator of choice, since it has "yellow" in its name, but that's just me.

that response might have been for the first puzzle though

I'm going to jump on board and hope it isn't to late.
Quote:

I know I wasn't invited
This I understand
But I hope to be able
To give a helping hand.

My favorite color is white
The one that reflects them all
It may be basic and bland,
But to me it does enthrall.

Well I never got a response back for my guess of 7 for the first clue although I know it was wrong so I sent this as in the bible it says that Noah was to take 7 of each of the flying creatures of the heavens or something to that affect:

Quote:
So 7 was wrong
for the first clue
but did Noah not take 7
of each bird in through
the doors of the ark
where they lay safe from the flood
for forty days and forty nights
because he was good

I know it's lame but... It was all that I could think of that rhymed.

Got This In Return:

Quote:
You're unique as you are clever,
I'm glad you've found the game.
All things in life are special,
even those who aren't the same.

You seek a grand entrance,
and I'll grant it to you indeed.
The place you'll find you're looking for
it lies beneath the streets.

Could be talking about a subway line. Or maybe sewers.

I asked about the "prize" and whether we should reply in poems or not, and got this:

Quote:
The prize is something tangible,
The prize is very cool.
And as for your creativity,
the poems are up to you!

I've got many players playing,
and some reply with rhyme.
It isn't necessary,
but makes for a fun time.

I got a reply, but it doesn't seem imporant(unless there is still a clue in every reply. Which I think was only for the last one and the four.)

Quote:

White is quite essential,
a blank canvas for fun!
In light it carries everything,
in color, it has none

Quote:
In my absence and lack of time,
I might seem to you quite rash.
But maybe in my lack of sending
you a clue - I have!
