Assasin's Creed II
Possible built in ARG Trailhead?

Almost finished wrapping this game and from start to finish my ARG senses have been ringing nonstop. To start, the whole game has this constant lingering behind the scenes feel, always references to some bigger epic plot, secrets hidden inside things, names being dropped, its hard to explain but I'll try.

First off, you may wanna take up a quick read over of the AC plotline on a wiki or something, there's plenty of websites dedicated to it, but all in all its a game completely chock full of secrets, hidden clues, references to big organizations, etc.

Now at first I was going to post this in the already made AC3 trailheader topic but I from the looks of it thats a 3rd party job, and looks entirely separate from all the stuff in the actual game itself. Where to start?

Ok! First off, your character, desmond, is in the present and able to view past memories through a machine called an Animus that searches his DNA, he then lives the life of his ancestor, Ezio.

The Animus hes working through though is a jacked homemade one by a rogue group of workers against generic giant corporation group. When they ninjad some files from the big corp they found that there had been some minor alterations in the data.

When running through the game you can find 30 "glyphs" glowing on random places in the scenery, and you run up to em and download chunks of files. Each one is a section of a video, and upon collecting it all you get access to the games big secret. We'll get into that in a moment.

Now within each of these files though you need to do a single or series of minigames, puzzles, etc, to unlock it. Solve a riddle, decipher a code, nuthin much for us ARGers.

Now here's where things go ARG though. Throughout these puzzles I've seen some other stuff that has nothing at all to do with the puzzles. I'm sure others who have played this have seen them as well.

For example, one of the common puzzles you are given is a large picture, and a cursor. On the top right of the screen will be a small zoomed in square of the picture in infared or just zoomed in. You need to find a hidden symbol in the picture.

HOWEVER I have seen on several pictures secondary things, even occasionally a third and in one instance a fourth ,symbol, word, phrase, or equation hidden in these pictures as well. Oddly enough all of these things are completely unrelated to the puzzle, any other puzzle or anything in the game.

One that comes to mind is the equation A=H which shows up over and over in the pictures.

There's so much more to this, but I'll finish off with stating that the final video you obtain from this whole everything, when played, ends with a square of binary that screams "DECIPHER ME PLOX" at me.

I cant pause the video so I'll have to watch it over a few times and write it all down here. Until then, please someone else tell me they have noticed all these things as well, Im starting to think Im taking crazy pills D:

Several points:

The binary at the end of the video is EDEN. There's already a similar Assassin's Creed ARG thread, but its long dead. Anyway, as said in a magazine, "The best part? All of these puzzles point to a deeper conspiracy."

My theory is that they were associated with templars. Or rather, the templar/mason group. One puzzle has George Washington, and he was a possible FREE MASON.

However it could be the other way around. By the way, I'm not sure if this is appropriate, but check abstergo.net.

Its a good read.

Posting in spoiler tags, cause y'know, spoilers.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You're right to think there is more to it. There are various codes - binary, morse, ROT ciphers (which you're given the keys to, hence you seeing A=H a lot), within the glyphs. Although an ARG to prelude AC3 is possible (maybe even likely) the current solutions to the hidden glyph riddles can be found on various places on the internet. They basically reveal extra, not essential, but interesting plot points/ideas that expand the Templar/Assassin conspiracy. Essentially they are all points of evidence towards "the truth" - that the human race was created by a more advanced race that came before us, and that that advanced race are what we came to perceive as Gods.

Its very interesting stuff, and sadly I only noticed the extras after I was about 2/3rds done with the glyphs, but it was fun to solve the extra riddles.

Seems the abstergo.net site isnt working for me? I'm getting a wix flash thing telling me there's a domain error...? Hold on I'll google it, either way It turns out that now that I've solved the video there's no way to go back and review the puzzles.... Grrrr

I know before I could click a section but now I don't have one....

Well, if this is an official one, count me in! Well, we should start by reviewing what else is pieces of eden used for, and what kinds are there?

The Assassin's Creed wiki, not wikipedia, has lots of information.

Well in game I specificly recall, of course, the apple, then the various puzzles clued towards the sword, the capecloak thingy (red) and the staff.

Along with this I noticed many secondary pieces of eden referenced in pics, IE when looking at the pics of the swords, I also noticed many of the eladers also wore a red cape, in fact the red cloak/cape shows up countless times in future pictures.

Along with this the very final puzzle, when you see the large picture with the eyes at the top and bottom, if you hover over the sword, staff, cloak, and apple, they all glow, signifying they are pieces of eden.

I'll keep digging.

EDIT:

http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Hidden_messages_in_subject_16_puzzles

Ok so this part of the wiki is a discussion of currently seen puzzles.

I swear I saw a message hidden on the one with the big picture of the moon but I cant remember what. Now Im really kicking myself for not writing down all these things I saw =/

Along with this its possible the codes you input when you solve the puzzles could mean something, who knows.

The cloak should be the shroud of Jesus. I believe he was the last of those ancient people. Hmmm... One last thing. Remember when you finished the puzzles and saw "The Truth?" Remember those moutains in the background. I remember from another Assassin's Creed ARG, that those mountains where either from Mt. Fuji, Himalayas, or Mt. Killajuwaya. hmm...

Jackpot:

http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Pieces_of_Eden

Complete list, also, I wonder if the so called "coat of many colors" would be referenced as well as the shroud? hehe you gotta hand it to the guys at ubisoft, they know how to make a game.

Im just gonna say it, anyone here that likes their ARG stuff play assasin's creed 1 and 2, they're the closed I've seen a videogame itself come to an ARG.

So I also found a website under construction @ www.abstergo.com, I sent the message udner the name of Mr Needlz asking if it was related to the recently closed abstergo.net, and if the line was secure.

I think it was said somewhere that Jesus used the piece of eden (the Shroud) to make people think he was the Son of God.

Either way, there's been a lot of speculation on the official forums, and I feel if there was an official ARG then I would know about it by now, and since abstergo.net is down (even though I am sure that was only ever 3rd party) then there seems to be lacking an AC ARG currently. Though, I guess it doesn't hurt to speculate about the game some more.

Edit: By the way, take that AC wiki info with a grain of salt. I'm pretty certain its not done by Ubisoft, and yet the site seems to state a lot of info that is highly agreed upon by speculators as fact. For example, that picture of the Apple of Eden on that page you linked has the tag
Quote:
The Piece of Eden used by Those Who Came Before to enslave humans

This is speculation based about a second within "The Truth" video where we see that image, which appears to be humans working on some kind of production line of-sorts and a silhouette of what we imagine is one of "Those Who Came Before." Its easy to believe that this image shows the human race enslaved by the Piece of Eden, but this image is the only piece of evidence towards that claim, so you know, don't take it as if thats necessarily Ubisofts intention/idea. Wink

I've played the first, and tipids of the second. Odd, Abstergo.net is down.
I'd also check eden4.weebly.net

That was the original site for the first Assassin's Creed ARG.

Edit:

Some more things:

Before the site was down, you could file an application to join Abstergo on Abstergo.net. There was also a phone number you could call, and it was a Washington State number. I'm guessing Abstergo's there than? I'd also suggest reading all the codex's. They're a good read.

That link also is dead. I'm guessing that that ARG imploded because I tried to get into it late, testing the waters claiming to know Desmond, but never got a reply. Similarly, Telos<somenumber> (I forgot, sorry Razz) hadn't acted on the latest info and it seemed that he was the only one getting given any puzzles etc., so it seems something behind the scenes went wrong and the game died off.

Shame! I want an AC ARG, even a fanbased one.

Just got an Email back from the website @ abstergo.com, automated reply saying that Richard Grey has changed his name to Richard Marmalade.

Title: Change of name and email address

Message: "*** You do not need to resend your message ***
Your message has been automatically forwarded to my new account, therefore you do not need to resend it!

*** For your information ***
As of 23rd January 2010 I have adopted the name Richard Marmalade. To reflect this I have started using the email address --------SPLATmarmalade.me - please note it down for future reference and update any address book entries you may have for me.

*** Why change your name? Why Marmalade? ***
I've mulled over the idea of changing my surname for a while now. Gray is just a little, well grey. Of all the suggestions I've had Richard Marmalade was my favourite.

So after using it informally for a while to try it on for size, I have now decided to change legally change it."

Reference to a Richard from Abstergo company in AC? Highly possible, I sent an email to what is apparently Richard's new email:

Title: Hello Richard

"Message: Is this line Safe to use? Or do we have an alternative method to talk?

I might have some information regarding a Lucy Stillman. Do you know her?"

Thats all for now, I'll post if I get a reply.

Interesting. Another upstart fanmade AC ARG, or abstergo.net ARG changed/restarted? Either way I hope theres an "in" that doesn't involve, like, faking a whole resume or something, like the last one. Smile

I'm not sure. Because for all we know, abstergo.net was just viral marketing. Because it was never really mentioned in the Assassin's Creed ARG. I discovered it while bored. I know eden4.weebly.com had been the best lead till now.
