Who Was Grayson Ozias IV? And Where Is His ($100,000) Fortune? Levi's has been rolling out a new add campaign, and part of that campaign appears to be an ARGish treasure hunt.
http://levi.com/goforth
The site asks "Who Was Grayson Ozias IV? And Where Is His Fortune?" On the Levi's home page we can see that it's buried somewhere in America, and is worth $100,000.
As of now there's a countdown that ends at noon on Monday, Oct. 5th (pst). You can register for updates, and create a log-in for what appears (based on their privacy info) to be an upcoming discussion/submission forum.
You can also follow Grayson Ozias IV on twitter: http://twitter.com/GraysonOziasIV Worth noting is that his location is New York, and that a google search for his name pulls up a craigslist listing for an event in Manhattan on 10/7. Unfortunately that listing appears to be gone now, including the cached version.
Also of possible significance- "Go Forth" (as well as most of the material in this campaign) comes from a Walt Whitman poem. And of course, Grayson Ozias IV = G.O. (the) FOURTH

Darn, why isn't there 100,000 buried in London?! Sounds fun but I'm too far away to participate.

enaxor noted earlier today that he's on Facebook . I didn't find him on MySpace. No surprise there though... that place is a ghost town.

The link here , shows the print ads plus a video ad for the "Go Forth" Levi campaign. The video ad apparently uses a wax recording that is believed to be Walt Whitman reading four lines from his poem "America".

Less than 30 minutes to go in the countdown...
Also, notgordian received an apparently related package: http://www.flickr.com/photos/notgordian/tags/graysonoziasiv/

With the game up and running, I've got a lot to say... but first and foremost, the first solve:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
G.O. IV's recording points to The James Brown House in New York, also known as The Ear Inn. Enter 'Ear Inn' and you're given the following info: the item must be retrieved on Oct. 12th between 9:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. eastern, and it is located "in the southwest corner beneath the round table".
EDIT: Looks like the clue that was given when I originally solved changed not long after-
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It now says October 7th, between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. EST. (Though, to be nitpicky, that should say EDT)
For a competition that will be based around timing and accuracy, they need to get their act together

Oooh, very interesting! Is anyone here going to be able to retrieve the "item"? They mention in the comments that after it is retrieved it will be posted...so we wait, I guess.

Yeah, I wanted to see what it is too. The people on the Levi's forum dont seem to adept. And apparently GO IV recorded his wax cylinders in 1889. So does this count as an arg?

After studying it extensively (30 min lol) I'm really certain it is just breathing. I got rid a lot of the hiss, but there is still nothing there.
Also, this was posted on the comment section of the website:
http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?_r=2&res=9E02E7DD153EEF33A25755C2A9669D94629ED7CF
It talks about Levi Strauss's suicide. However, I do not believe this event actually happened. All my research points nothing to a suicide, leading me to believe that this article might be a paid plant by the NYT. But more investigation is needed.

The article is about Nathan Strauss, not Levi, and the link is directly from the New York Times, so I'm going to assume it's legit. I seriously doubt a media agency like the New York Times would fabricate a news story like that.
And it's not *the* Nathan Strauss listed on Wikipedia, which died forty years later.
