 Annoying thought
running through my brain like an impertinent pitchfork...

I think, or hope, or dread, that we all are missing some really important clues that the PM left, which we noted but did not interpret.

It feels to me like the PM is dying to give us more direct clues but doesn't want to break the illusion or break the forum rules. Perhaps this is what was meant when we were told,
Quote:
"there are doors unopened...things untapped. . .listentoitall..."

These may be the PM saying, "No, wait! Don't go away yet! You missed something important! If you don't get that idea now, none of the rest of it will make any sense to you! Hang on a moment, will ya??"

To wit--
We are shown a hole in the ground that gives off distortion waves, and a red, triangular tower that must be significant...but we shrug and say, "yeah, it's important; there was a tape there." Could that really be its whole significance? Why is it there--why was that place chosen for the tape to be placed? Who put it there?-can we guess, and surmise why that person put it in that metal box in that location?
Are those Operator symbols placed in a special pattern, or in special places that we are supposed to relate to each other?
Why does one totheark video show us merely some trees and rain? Is it that the time of the clip is more important than the content itself, or something else? Could the sailor, or the old bicycles, signify something more? Why those clips of music? Is there a clue in the Conrad Aiken story? Geez, I bet the PM is screaming, "Look! Listen! Listen and look to THIS HERE. Don't you get it? For God's sakes, people, it's RIGHT THERE!" Especially true in the totheark videos, I feel there must be more meaning in them that what we're seeing so far.
I'm hoping that these are solvable by us at this time and not just random red herrings; I feel like the guys planned this whole thing reeeeeal carefully and that very little of significance is actually randomly included in the videos. I mean, sometimes the clues or the 'gun' are presented for us to see, far earlier than we are equipped to understand them, but maybe there's a way to discern their significance. For instance, we did find that march music and then, it seems, we hit a brick wall and thereafter just stopped wondering about it. Are there 'untapped' resources we could employ? Sometimes it seems we are spinning theories and spinning our wheels when we have real clues we could focus on to more effect.

I am not trying to scold here. I know we feel we're doing our best. I only feel someone (and I would love for it to be me!) needs a moment of epiphany, an AHA moment, when a leap of logic is made and the hidden things come into place for us.
I guess I'm just feeling dumb.
I wish this made more sense. The sense of beguilement or wonder is still there, but it's like a haze or miasma in the room. We need some fresh air of clarity, we'll just pass out from the fumes. It's not healthy to be endlessly fascinated without any rewards for so many months.

Perhaps this will jar someone's memory and we can get a breakthrough. . .I'm hoping!
Again, no offense, comrades in tentacles! Just honest frustration.

Yeah, I feel like there's something we're missing too. Did we ever actually get anything from Impurity, that one with the house in the rain, the one with the two fluorescent lights, etc etc?

Still, though, at the rate we're being handed new puzzle pieces I think all of these have some significance that isn't apparent now but will be later. Some may be less important than others; Version was probably just to tell Jay that yes, he should in fact go to the tower, that one with Brian was probably just another "LOL LOOK I HAVE ACCESS TO FOOTAGE I SHOULDN'T", etc.

At any rate, I'm really curious to see what happens next. Perhaps we'll get some TTA videos showing that Jay's been 'come for'? I really hope it's something exciting like that rather than more "hey, guys, I found this on my surveillance tape. Well that sure is abnormal. I'm considering going somewhere else, but my dishes have piled up in front of my door."

I think we speculated that the lights was just going along with the slendy-electronic-distortion thing. Something we see again in Return.

We also speculated that Impurity, the one with the house, and the one that had brian in it... Advocate I believe, were locations that he needed to go back to. Yet we never took that theory further.

Well, in Impurity, a certain place is hardly seen. I mean, there are only the trees... But with this theory, the phrase "there is more" makes more sense. I mean, come to this place, there is more.
Like, maybe, the area where Alex and Jay were in Entry 13 and Exit. I mean, there were some trees AND the Operator symbol on the ground.

I agree with GnomonRose, as I think too that we haven't noticed something.

Also, I kind of wonder, why in Alex's drawings there was "SPEAKS TO ME"? And, there was no sound in some Slendy videos.

I get this feeling, too. And then I vacillate between feeling pretty dumb for not putting things together, and shrugging and thinking that 'it's not a real ARG, so we should probably be more passive in our attention and just enjoy the ride.' I think that since the lines between being an ARG (with being able to interact a little with Jay and TTA) and being a non-conventional web series is what's throwing us off. In ARG's there is generally more of a push to have people interact with one another and with the game's characters, right? Here, everything seems to be between TTA and Jay with a side of Slendy for bricks... We're really just observers at this point.

On the other hand, Jay does act fairly passive. I don't mean in that he goes to the house, etc. etc. His personality makes it seem like he's waiting for input (maybe that's why he always acts so calm?) so there's that element of "Well crap, if only we could put the pieces together, we could have him act in a way to get some control back for himself." TTA seems pretty adept at pulling his strings right now.

We may just be getting paranoid about there being something underlying the surface that we can discover and put forward to manipulate the outcome of things. I mean... I still think that there is but I don't know what to do about it.

...XD I sent a message to TTA recently. Don't really expect it to get answered, but if it does and it's something that I can share then maybe we will get a nudge or something.

We could just be observers with no real effect on the story, or we could not. I guess from the looks of things lately, it's the former.

What bothers me is that TTA and Jay both responded to questions from players in the beginning, but they don't seem to wanna bother anymore. I sent them a message too, recently, but never got a response, and haven't heard of any other responses they've given recently either.
They were interesting. ;__;

I know how that feels, squidbutt. I sent TTA a message (posting something on his profile, at least), back when I first got interested in early November asking "If J cannot be trusted because he is human, then presumably Tim cannot be trusted either during Entry #15, yes?" and never got an answer.

Then again, I guess the subsequent entries and revelations were answer enough.

I asked Jay about the music in entry #24.
Basically, had he heard it at the time, or did it just show up on the tape? Was it coming from a stereo, or some other source?

I think I asked TTA about the significance of music in his videos too.

Still wondering about that. I know I'm now going back to the whole LET'S SOLVE SOME MORE SHIT even-if-it-might-not-matter. The music definitely doesn't sound to me like it's coming from his computer speakers, or even from within the house, considering how high I have to turn up my speakers to hear it. It sounds more like it was edited into the video and then distorted after the fact. In which case...why? It seems like it'd be important.

Some subtle, creepy things in this series strike me as things that MUST have some sort of significance to the plot. Three thoughts on this.

a) There are a lot of subliminal or cryptic messages we haven't fully decoded that might be of some importance.
b) Some things just simply aren't meant to be decoded, and we'll understand everything at endgame. But it seems like there's too much to just...explain everything to us at the end.
c) Some of it's just there for the creepy factor. But that would take away from the realism a bit and be kinda lame.

As for what sort of "things" I'm talking about, a couple come to mind:
- The inclusion of clips/audio from "Silent Snow, Secret Snow" in TTA's video "Signal", as well as those navy and bicycle clips, the sinking ship (though that could just be an obvious metaphor).
- Random bits of music. TTA has said "listentoitall". What're we missing there?

It's probably just that they don't have the time to scour through millions of messages since their series exploded. Or else people just aren't asking the right questions or saying the right things. XD Actually, probably some mixture of the two!

And, y'know, it could be that they read them and don't want to give away certain things at this point in the story. They could also be reading and adding whatever they glean to their brewin' pot; whether that's the general mood of the messages coming in, or whether they're noting what questions people are asking and thinking about how to answer them in future entries?

I dunno. I'm sure that they've got their eyes on it. X3 The rarity of a response just makes 'em all that much more squee-worthy for getting 'em!

Re the most recent post, what do you suppose we'll find if we do locate the origins of the music, or video clips? Potential clues about the intentions of tta/masky, or even Slenderman? Reasons behind disappearances, suggestions about locations of the disappeared? Maybe if we keep the questions we have listed out and the sound clips and video/picture clips listed out side by side, we can start drawing lines between the two?

Ha ha, it'd be neat if there were answers or at least suggestions/clues embedded that we could solve. XD

Oh I assumed the lack of responses had something to do with lack of time or whatever. I don't blame them for not keeping up with it, but it was a nice touch.

No clue what we'd find, but I think it's worth a try.
I watched all of "Silent Snow, Secret Snow" (it's on Youtube in 2 parts), but it made about as much sense to me as TTA's video. It's about a boy (possibly with some form of schizophrenia?) who sees and hears snow that nobody else can. The audio is a voice inside the boy's head telling him to ignore his parents, the doctors, and everyone and to go up into his room to listen to the snow.
Creepy, for sure, but not sure what the connection is with MH.

Just reading that synopsis, not actually having watched the movie, the parallel seems pretty clear to me between the movie and what Jay is doing right now.

Go to your room, be alone, listen to these things that no one else sees and hears. Cut yourself off from the world so that you can better stew in what's going on in your own head.

Maybe it's an indication that there is something much more important about what's going on in our protagonist's head than we think. Perhaps the audio is an indication that there is some validity to the theory that Slendy is only there because people insistently THINK about him. Maybe this is how he operates and gets stronger.

Elsewise, I'm agreeing here with GnomonRose and Dray. :/ I feel that much of the speculation going on right now is running about in circles while we wait for someone to have an 'aha!' moment and actually make use of some of the clues that so far have been left out of most theories.

Time to re-watch the series again to see what congeals.

Ditto what Kat said (ya ninja'd me, woman!) Hey, what say we grab a pad of newsprint out and actually GO THROUGH THE SERIES, writing down questions. Writing down things that we think could be clues or puzzles (solved or not) on a different sheet. Matching 'em up, seeing what we get?

Not as exciting as doing this with the entire community but maybe getting off of the unforums and moving things around instead of sitting in front of the computer and windbagging... maybe we'll spot something that we can bring back here. Even if we don't get something, ourselves, we may be able to present something for everyone else!

That speculation's kind of encouraging- "Signal" was a response to entry 17. So that might mean they've got things planned out a bit.

Someone quoted this in another thread, but this is what the voice says:
Silent Snow, Secret Snow wrote:
"Even here, even among these hostile presences, the snow was waiting, out of sight, with a voice that said, 'Wait, Paul. Just wait till we are alone together. I will tell you something new. Something cold, something sleepy, something of cease and peace and the long bright curve of space. Banish them. Refuse to speak. Go upstairs to your room. I will be waiting for you. I will tell you a story better than the Snow Ghost. I will surround your bed, pile a deep drift against the door, so that none will ever again be able to enter.'"

The connection you made really does make sense now that I think about it.
rofl This speculation BS would be so much easier if I wasn't terrified of TTA's videos.

edit: Oh, and a lot of it's apparently been discussed in the thread for Signal. http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=28667

Could this be a reference to all the distorted "hello"s in entry 23?

Makes me wonder, with all of the doll imagery (the Slenderdoll, the mask, the wooden mannequin ) paired with the way that Jay acts, if he's sort of the puppet or the doll in some fashion. Would make sense in how his reactions are so understated.
