[OOG]Just Another Fool PM Thread
POST GAME CHAT: JANUARY 14, 9pm EST, #marblehornets CHANNEL

PM here, posting to basically confirm that the story is over. Basically, your deduction is correct and Joshua chose a rather bad form of transportation, given his history with it.

I realize the fact that you guys aren't completely "getting it" is a bit of a failure on my part as a storyteller... I guess what I can offer as a hint is that pretty much EVERYTHING you need to know is in the second notebook.

Also, as a bit of an apology/disclaimer... I actually intended to end this awhile ago. I had been waiting on my "photoshop guy" for that one picture since early December, and in fact ended up having a different friend of mine do it in the end. Is it a masterpiece? Probably not... But it gets the job done, haha.

Anyhow, this has been quite a ride and I was actually shocked at how popular this thing got... The voicemail I had set up has a total of a few hundred messages. Obviously, plenty of you called multiple times, but I was expecting a total of like, a dozen or two.

I really appreciate and thank you guys for playing along, I certainly enjoyed myself, and hopefully I provided you guys with a nice and somewhat enjoyable diversion, which is what games are for, right?

Lol, fantastic.

I did call several times, myself. I was the one who lived in South Carolina, if you only had one. Hope I got on that list of the "Nine." My friend absolutely adored this story... This is going to sound selfish, but it really would be killer if you a.] Sent out the pages to who they were meant for [As I believe everyone of the Nine is meant to have a page], or b.] Give me the whole darn book Razz

If you really are the storyteller from Just Another Fool, at least have the decency to post some kind of entry in the blog that shows the game has come to an end. I don't care if it's an obituary, or a fake newspaper article. Just post SOMETHING to let everyone know the game is over. Or if the game is over, do some out of character blogging and explain to us what the players failed to do/get. Just killing off a character is lazy and cheap; especially if you are just going to leave people hanging like that!!

I absolutely LOVED everything about the story: it was excellently done.

Thanks for the read and the whole experience, really.

@TNC
Tetsuyabh has the entire book, except for a few pages that I sent to individual people, so you'll have to take it up with him, haha.

@UBWArcher
I'm working on something like that. It's basically fairly difficult to do that in any realistic way and still keep it in game, so if I'm not satisfied with anything I come up with in terms of realism, I'd rather just leave the blog as is and let the reader figure it out rather than half-ass it or make an out of game post. Even if killing people off is lazy and cheap, where do you expect something with slenderman to end?

@Eleven
Many thanks, I appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for the game, Knolly.

Could you do us a favor if we don't figure out what we were supposed to figure out, and just tell us? I think that by now, if we were ever going to get it, than we would have, but I'd like to take a few more days to get one last shot in.

As moderator I feel obligated to point out that PMs aren't allowed to post in the forums or threads of their own game, but at the same time I recognize that Jafool =\= Marble Hornets (the forum) and you have no other venue of speaking with us Out Of Game. To this effort, I'm going to split it into an IG and OOG topic (I figure if you have an OOG topic it should be alright, given that this isn't a jafool forum).

Anyway, it was a great game and I thoroughly enjoyed it, though the long delay for posting the endgame sorta gave it a dead quality that made it not feel like an ending at all. Is it possible to set up a PM chat? (that's pretty standard for most ARGs, where the PM and as many players as can/want to join a chat room together and ask each other questions in an orderly fashion--usually this is done via IRC) I have a ton of questions for you. Smile

@Dav
From the UF ToS I got the impression PMs were allowed to post once the game had come to a conclusion... My bad. And I totally agree with you that the long delay until the end sort of made things worse... Unfortunately that was the result of OOG things not occuring.

I'll try to block out some time in the next day or two that I could maybe do a chat in the IRC channel or something.

Also, to address what several people were questioning: I genuinely do not know the people that were playing and received the books and pages. I contacted Dav and tetsuyabh out-of-character briefly only because I wanted to make sure that my address wouldn't be revealed in any pictures online (since I'd rather put my return address on the envelope than have the notebooks be lost). The people who received just the pages I actually never contacted at all. So I sincerely thank all of you for playing the game so well. I was really impressed that everything managed to find its way online.

In the meantime...

Brief explanation of Yggdrasil and the concept of "the nine":
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This entire "reveal" was something I was actually fairly hesitant to do, simply because I obviously would be expanding slenderman lore beyond what is already known. However, the truth is you really can't have that interesting of a game going on for that long based on the established slenderman lore, so I decided to take the plunge. Some people might like it, some might hate it, but you can't win 'em all.

The second notebook was honestly not that full of riddles. Looking back, I have a feeling you all may have been overthinking it a bit. As I said, I believe that some of this was a failure on my part as a storyteller, but perhaps if you now know what it means it might help make sense of it all.

Have you ever wondered if everyone else actually thinks and feels things like you do? One of the great mysteries of life is that you actually have no way to prove that everyone else is as conscious as you simply because it's impossible to verify. So thus we come to the idea of Yggdrasil, the world tree, and its nine worlds.

The idea is that at any point in time, there are only nine truly conscious beings/people. Because most of the population is equivalent of a robot, eight of these conscious being live rather brilliant and wondrous, yet ultimately short lives. This is because the ninth being is Slenderman, who is ultimately responsible for killing these people and therefore "resetting" the worlds. He is the only way that these people can be killed (ie the car crash), and thus one day, everyone who is truly conscious will have to face him.

The "unknown" notebook pages were:
V - This is meant as a "wild card."
VII - The implication here, which I clearly failed at explaining, was that Matt was one of the nine, and thus when he died, a new person was born to replace him.

The point of the "wild card" is that I sent out a number of pages to people, but I obviously couldn't send one to everyone playing the game. Thus, you, the reader, obviously believe yourself to be a conscious being, so that means that the "V" page must be for you, right?

When slenderman is hunting one of the nine, he will not stop until he finishes them off. First with Matt, and then Logan. Logan mentioned how he knew Joshua would be next and apologized, since his death meant Joshua would immediately be in danger.

And thus you, the player, are also one of the nine, whether you received a page from Logan, or if you know that the "V" page belongs to you. So now, knowing that, I would like to repeat the last words written in the second journal:

ALWAYS TURN AROUND.

You just might be next.

Let me know when it will be and I'll make an announcement. The #marblehornets room works for you, right?

I'll moderate, since I've been in a bunch of PM chats in the past, so just let me know what times work for you and I'll confirm the date/time in an announcement.

In case I can't (or anybody can't) make it to the chat, could we send you some questions before the date and then you can answer them in the channel? Then, maybe someone can post a transcript of the chat for all to see for anyone who couldn't make it.

I've seen this done with celebrity chats, and thought it might be a good idea for this, too, since we're all in different timezones and such.

I'll be in #marblehornets January 14 (tomorrow) at 9 PM. If you're not sure if you can make it, post any questions you might have in this thread and I'll answer them in the chat then and I'm sure someone will be kind enough to post the transcript of it later.

Damn that'll be tough for me to make, but I'll see what I can do. Hopefully we can find a moderator, but if not then I apologize for the inhospitality of the chaos that will ensue. Might I appeal on behalf of myself and the people on the United States west coast and ask you to consider moving it to 9pm?

Once again, for those who need directions to get to the venue:
In any IRC client (mIRC, Mibbit.com, etc) join the server irc.chat-solutions.org. Once you have connected, type "/j #marblehornets" without quotes and you will be in the channel.

Argh, I have class then. Ah well, hopefully others will be able to make it. I'll see if I can think of some questions and post them here.
