what you posted is the representation of your uncles' riddle, right?

coudl we see the original, there might be some clues on it not covered by the representation...

also, when you've said you've tried them, what do you mean?
you asked your uncle if it was the right answer?

It's interesting he says "an integer 0-9" when the clue says "1-5". That gives us some hint in itself - you're obviously supposed to do something with the 1-5 units to give you other numbers.

*shrug*

I went at this a little different and assumed that all the notches were lined up in columns as well and I numbered each column 1-5.

I came up w/ two possible answers using that method.

22/14/13 or 22/15/12

The two, three, one could indicate the order of the pairs in the final number.

So... 34 32 41 for example.

There are only 5 positions the 'notches' appear in. (Aside - isn't a notch really an indentation, not extra material?) It then makes sense then to assume that the values go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, based on the notch position.

As for the greater unit value clue, this seems to me like the top numbers represent tens, and the bottom numbers represent ones.

So, here's my thoughts:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
20+40+50 = 110
1+3+4+5 = 13
...Subtraction needed to meet the 1st clue: 2 digit numbers
1st number = 97 (110-13)

10+20+30 = 60
2+3 = 5
2nd number - 55 (60-5)

10+20+30+40 = 100
1 = 1
3rd number = 99 (100-1)

This leads to 975599.

Aw, you make me blush!

Fact is, though, I still don't think we have enough info to get one definite solve from this.

Thank all of you for helping! ...and I'll keep trying.
