I was watching 23 again and if I go by my theory that I posted a page or so ago- Maybe the reason the Mask is hanging on the door could be because Slendy finally got to Masky? That could explain why Slendy took interest in Jay for the first time right after it happened!

I'm not buying that Masky is evil. He had plenty of opportunities to hurt Jay and never did. Something doesn't add up there.

Look at what's happened between Jay and Masky. The first time they're in the same room/building together, all Masky does is tape Jay kneeling on the ground coughing (in the same hallway where Tim has the same sort of reaction; this is important). TTA doesn't do anything. Jay ends up taking a bullet casing and Masky's pills.

Second encounter. Masky makes a HUGE point of making sure Jay sees him. He doesn't charge at Jay until the latter has had a good, long look at him. He also makes sure Jay doesn't remove his mask and see Masky's face.

Third encounter. Masky just sits and watches Jay, then TTA tapes Jay...I don't even know. Apparently SM rejects Jay in favor of peering into Masky's closet. There's something significant about that.

Then we have this return to the house. The house is cleaner. Masky doesn't interact with Jay at all other than watching him once.

Personally? I think the Masky in 23 is from the past. Then, later on, he watches Jay poke around the house in Entry 16 or whatever when he first visits, then when Jay steals his meds, gets really pissed off. He waits for Jay to come back, tries to scare him off by attacking him, then follows him back to his house to get his meds back.

TTA, whether or not they're one and the same, seems to want Jay's help in dealing with Slenderman. At least, that's the impression I'm getting. Masky/TTA need somebody, for whatever reason, to help them rid the house, and themselves, of the Slenderman.

Maybe Masky wears his mask so Slendy can't see him? Maybe if he can't see your face he can't find you?

Most likely, the mask was hanging on the door to lure Jay into going through it.

Also, you can clearly see Masky closing the door with the mask on it just as Jay gets to it, so Slendy wouldn't have gotten him yet.

Isn't the door with the mask on it, the same half door that was in 16 w/ the bones and the door in admission.

If it is, its a service door and its really light, so I could imagine the draft from the closet being enough to close it.

edit: actually after rewatching it, I think it might be when Jay opened the closet door it pushed the other door shut since they are right across from each other.

But, feel free to shoot me down if this has been covered earlier; but what exactly (if any) is the significance of the operator symbol around 2:22 in the room with the mattress?
