And to GUESTIEe: Look, I don't know these guys, haven't really met them (though I do think one of 'em was my waiter last week at a local restaurant), and so I don't have any "authority", as you put it. But it's just common sense to be nice to the people who are providing your entertainment. Otherwise they might go away. And you'll end up looking like a jerk. You might want to consult TV Tropes for more details.

Not only your making fun of "alex" because he works at that bar, but you're also calling me a fśckwad (or at least implying), nice trolling brah.

I wasn't making fun of the player working at the restaurant (and it wasn't Alex, by the way). I was saying that I don't know them, except for meeting that one guy. I used to work in a restaurant, why would I mock someone for doing the same?

And I wasn't trying to state or imply anything about you, personally. I don't know you. I was only saying that you might want to rethink your actions so as not to give anyone the wrong impression of you... but there's no point in that, is there? You'll keep doing whatever you want. That's the joy of the Internet.

And for everyone else... what's a "white knight" thread? Is it because we're trying to take up for the guys? Is that bad, for some reason? I'm honestly asking this, because I find this whole situation weird.

Just ignore the trolls

"white knight" = when a person sticks up for someone else who they don't know because they think it will get them rewarded with some sort of positive attention or something

A quote from "Alex's" Facebook.

"Internet strangers don't bother me, they just need to be reminded occasionally that these are real people with real lives who have no idea who they are.

Thank you so much for the compliments though, it means a lot that so many people like our project!"

It's all good. Like I said, it isn't the reason I'm in a bad mood or anything. I'll just open my inbox, see the question, and go, "Really? REALLY?".

Alex is officially my favorite actor in the Marble Hornets cast. Those must be some pretty stupid questions. Probably something like "HAY ALEKS GIVE SLENDIE HIS TWENTIE DOLLARZ WHY DOESNT HE HAVE HIZ MONIE LMFAOOOO"

Which, odds are, he's probably gotten at least once. God. Those people piss me off to no end.

Dude has more patience than I would, being swarmed by /b/s.

Yeah, the 'white knight' comment was somebody snarking about how we're being blind henchmen going nuts in defense of people we don't know. That can be a problem sometimes. I don't think it was made fairly, though. It's not that we want positive attention, so much as we didn't want the creators packing up shop because they're being bugged in relatively private spaces. Seeing as how Alex's actor doesn't seem too bothered by it, and Jay's actor seems to be still mix-mashing things up, I suppose we were being a little frothy at the mouth... but having ridiculous fanboys swarming artists/creators/whatever has had them shut down and back off in the past, so it's not like we were bawling for no reason.

Anyways: bad trolls! Get back under the bridge where you belong!

This is what happens when your audience (by accident or design) consists at least in part of 4chan. You have to contend with the socially retarded dwellers thereon, who have convinced themselves that their weakness in the real world translates to toughness in the digital one. Settle down, kids. "Internet success" is an oxymoron.

There's no white-knighting going on here. My interest in the creators being left alone is purely selfish. On the one hand, I don't want to run the risk of having my favorite webseries swarmed by the falsely entitled and socially maladjusted, a scenario with the possible consequence of its creators saying, "Fuck it, let's do something else." On the other, as a person who struggles every day to make a living in a creative way, I sympathize with like-minded individuals whose audience feels like knowledge of the product is equatable to knowledge of the producer. It's pathetic high school nut-jobbery at best, and the attempt to truss it up as stoic internet tough-guy-ism only makes it worse.

I know. Dumb me... never feed the trolls. Must've been leftover Nyquil from last night. Smile

Thanks for the explanation. I thought I was up on my Interwebs slang, but I missed that one.

I don't support the harassment of them by any means, but honestly, what did they expect? If they didn't want to be bothered, they shouldn't have openly come out on Facebook and put it in their profiles.

From a personal point of view, I hate knowing who the people are behind this and knowing it's a complete work of fiction. There is a big difference from me and it hinders the experience going from that 0.001% chance that it could all be real and knowing without a doubt that it's all acting and there's a 0% chance of it being real. I really wish I never stumbled upon their facebooks. I also hate to think that the series will somehow be affected by them being public. The idea that they might be trying to push endgame because they're sick of being harassed or something similar.

I know they probably wanted to put it in their profiles for possible job opportunities, but I wish they had just a bit more tact than that and maybe put it in something less frequented by fans, such as LinkedIn, where people in the industry probably are already signed up at.

Ok... so let's rationalize this using your views then...

I draw a picture and post it online. My picture becomes real popular, people talk about it a lot.
I mention it on a tiny little section of my Facebook profile, because I'm proud of my work. This obviously means I'm not concerned about being hassled by dozens of fans day and night, some of who want to know every single detail of my and my friends lives to help them better understand the symbolism in my drawing.
But obviously, I want the attention, otherwise I wouldn't admit in taking part in the creation of it, right?

 SO ANGERY

------POSSIBLE IMMERSION RUINING OMG------

Okay guys, this is the only time I'll post here.

I'm not angry about people asking questions about Marble Hornets, I am just going to (A.) ignore the question, (B.) give you a nonsense answer, or (C.) block you if you continue to ask after I said no then let it drop that you tracked down "Sarah" before the facebook profiles even came out (splodingheads over there). I can understand the viewpoint of "well if they don't like it then they shouldn't have ______". I'm sorry you feel that way but I'm not changing my policy right now.

Please give us some credit though. We take our project seriously and we aren't going to let any negative fan moments cause us to alter the story to spite you. In addition to that, we certainly aren't going to pack up our toys and head home because someone succeeds in annoying us.

Likewise we are fine with criticism, even the harsh kind, so you don't have to tell someone to gtfo if they don't particularly like something we do. We might not agree with the viewpoint, but everyone is free to have their own opinions.

In conclusion, you guys just need to chill out a bit. I'm calm. Troy is calm. We're all calm. Everything is gonna be allllllllllllright. I'll post some sort of confirmation in my facebook status if you guys need some proof that this is me.

-Joseph

P.S. "Sarah" thinks you are creepy, splodingheads.

P.P.S.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I don't even remember tagging myself as marble hornets initially. I blame it on the Goose, got me feelin' loose.

Jamie Foxx rap cracks me up but I love it.

I read that thread where you guys were trying to guess how much money we made off adsense and hahahaha man I wish we made even as much as the low estimates there.

My main response to all this: Why not just come out for credit after the project is done (assuming it has an end)? If you're trying to get attention from the industry, making LinkedIn profiles (for businesses) would be a better idea, since if someone who's in the industry is more likely to find you there and crazy ass fans are unlikely to find you altogether (the only reason I found one of your profiles was because I searched for Marble Hornets to find a page to fan, no one would do that at LI).

Anyways, I feel like you're mocking me with the possible immersion ruining comment at the top. Honestly, what makes certain ARGs for me is having no clue about the writers behind it. For myself and I'm sure plenty of others, it would have been more enjoyable to not know who you were while interested in Marble Hornets, and then we could appreciate your work and effort after it was complete (ie movie credits).
