That mailing things out that JAF did sounds really cool, too!

Or how Year Zero had numbers to call (yeah yeah, totally un-slender, but a good one nonetheless)

Cool, there's quite a few Canadian locations as well!

I... think I've been to that site before! Hmm... *pokes around some more!*

It was originally created by a bunch of guys in Canada, I think. Unfortunately, most of the places listed are out of date - either demolished or under such heavy protection that you'd get arrested for trying to get in.

It looks like lots of people here are interested in starting their own related stories, maybe with more actual game involved? I admit I've had some ideas of my own.

I'm thinking of something that's not Slenderized, unfortunately, though I like playing with these Slendy-based things. At least, if they're not too directly rip-offs and/or follow exactly the same tired routine of 'oh noes he sees me I go crazy and learn how to type in ones and zeros now!' XD A little of that is okay. Unending strings of binary (at least obvious binary... having it hidden in images is nice!) and 'save me' over and over really loses the effect!

eta: following somebody who thought they could go it alone and who tries to shrug off players advice for a while would be kind of cool, if frustrating.

Well, I've always been amused (and terrified) to think Slendy could end up a tulpa of sorts... the real trick is to convince others...
You need to draw them in with the fun hunting around and well-writen stuff from your psychologist character, then you've gotta sink the claws in and leave them sleepless.

Heh, the clever thing to do would be to single out the active players right off the start to ensure cooperation, then if you mail out stuff, don't have it be the same stuff, give them bits and pieces of clues and make them work together.

Yes, this!

Fragments of videos, then.

Encourage participation!

It'd be expensive to mail stuff out though. Maybe email sound clips and video files?

Hmmm.

I doubt you're in the Atlanta area, but there's actually an abandoned institution here.

Tons of highschool kids like going there to freak themselves out.

Hmmm.

We could pool funds for some sort of post-game recognition, perhaps t-shirts?
Then money could be set aside for mailing fees.

With video fragments, we could incorporate another NIN idea. You see, when Trent Reznor distributed the Broken film to his friends in the 90's, he did all the tapes just a little bit different, different cut-offs or distortion in different places. That way, when it leaked he knew exactly who was responsible.

You could warn them to keep the tapes to themselves then specifically pinpoint players who shared it.
Or maybe just hide seperate clues.

That depends on if you want everybody to pool their resources together to figure out a puzzle, or if they need to keep it to themselves.

Even the briefest brush with teamwork over at Who Are You showed me that some person is likely going to leak things in their enthusiasm for "omg I found something!" so keep that in mind. XD

Oh and as far as locations, if you're anywhere near PA, I have a wealth of locations I use for urban exploration.
My favorites right now are and old, disused railroad truss I found in the wood, (lol, I spent an hour tracing rivers on google maps to pinpoint it) it was starting to go a little, but strong enough to ride a quad across.
The old Shenango China Plant was prime, some of the upper levels were starting to go and bits of the roof have caved, but the top stuff was still sort of walkable, and I know the groundfloor at the very least is still safe enough to walk through (not to mention full of old machine blueprints and rare china, decals, etc that they just left there).
Then (I find most of this stuff quadding along old railroad tracks) an old trainstation. Its' windows were boarded up but the building was gold, not to mention easily reachable from a main road, but out of sight enough that you wouldn't get caught.
I found, while walking by my cousin's house recently, a literal dead-end. It was the spookiest fucking street I've ever walked down, tree roots and caved under-road drains were wrecking what was left of the road. Disused trailers lined it, and at the very end, empty houses and abandoned cars.
Finally I've found the remnants of an old waste-management plant. Nothing left but concrete floors and a huge black abyss of a hole in the ground.

I've got tons of other stuff around here too, if you live in the area that is.

@Dray yeah, they'd all leak it, but if you can create a new account on an ARG-site and drop reference to a user who's actual address you know? That's just hysterically creepy.

Actually, you know what?
I've got a shitload of old pictures laying around from the Shenango factory that I can just give you.
No one would be able to tell where they were from the inside.
There's a catch though, the camera I took them on was shit so they're all tagged in the corner with this obnoxious yellow timestamp that says they were taken in like '02 (which is wrong to begin with, I took them all last year, but I dropped the camera several times in the factory and the timestamp reset itself)

Would you mind posting the pictures in here anyways? I would love to be able to see a few of those.

Especially the dead-end.

The dead end ones are laying around on my harddrive.
And there's far too many of the factory ones (I see now it's an '03 timestamp)
But I'd gladly email the factory ones to one of you if you want.
I'm way too lazy to upload those all somewhere myself.
