[LIVE EVENT] Encom Conference?

New to this board, so I hope this isn't redundant in any way, but I was noting in one of the messages prior about a potential Encom Board Meeting or thoughts on something similar to this.... I was wondering if this would occur at the San Diego Comic Con... seeing that Encom's 35th Anniversary was listed as July 22nd, 2007, if they had a yearly meeting that day, this year's meeting would fall on the Thursday at Comic Con. Hopefully, my badge (which is supposedly on the way) will help out, since I will be there that day.

Any thoughts?

Kevin

If it IS a live event, hopefully it will be webcast real time too. Its not difficult or expensive. I'm doing it for a annual dinner of a small group I'm a member of.

Why would they say they would hold a press conference at a "forthcoming convention" and then NOT make it a live event?

And it had better happen a lot sooner than SDCC.

Re: GDC

Nothing Encom-related that I could find at GDC, by the way.

There has to be a rest period in the viral campaign soon. The film doesn't come out until Dec 2010.

Speaking of which. That is the new trend now. To release big budget films in December against smaller budget films. Studios finally figured out that too many big budget films vs one another in the summertime is bad business, when you want the film to stay on top as long as it can so it can earn that big money. Cameron did it with Titanic and Avatar.

I pretty sure it's going to become the norm now for studios to release big budget popcorners on odd dates away from the summer grind.

Heh. I always thought Cameron did it to be closer to the Academy Awards and have it be fresher in voter's memory.

That too, I'd suspect. Anyway it's fine with me- it's nice to have stuff come out besides around July 4th, although christmastime is also something of a hot time. I've never fully understood the whole releasing on christmas day thing- I mean, heck, I'm jewish and I still wouldn't go see something on christmas.

Didn't Encom's site say something about hosting multiple galas in different locations? I do hope the ARG events aren't all held in cons who sold almost ALL of their tickets the year before.

It would be nice to have some events similar to the SITS Bioshock ARG. These didn't just take place in one state or even at conventions. A public park, for instance.

For those of us who don't have a lot of money to blow that is.

Also new to the forums. Hello to all my fellow Flynn-ites out there.

Welcome Augustus Griffin!

Even if they hold events at the same time and in the same city as a con, it doesn't have to be directly part of the con. I'd think that holding an event in a concurrent location and time but not bound by the facilities and other constraints of the con would be preferable. It would certainly make it more accessible to the fan base in general - we aren't all the type who sign up a year in advance to go to these things.

Correct me if I am wrong...(as I didn't attend last summer)...but wasn't the Flynn's Arcade an event that took place "outside" of Comicon ..yet simulatneously on the streets of downtown San Diego. Anyone who was following the Flynn Lives site would get the info on what was going down with the "meetup".

So I would figure...just like the Flynns Arcade, gridlock rendevous and IMAX screenings...there was "no purchase" necessary (for example: do not need to buy a Comicon ticket) ...but you had to go thru the motions of the ARG tasks to be lucky enough to gain access to the exclusive stuff and or events.

Of course people who were at Comicon last summer obviously were on the front lines and got wind of the developments in real time....so I am sure it didn't hurt being at Comicon...but it doesn't sound like it was a requirement to gain access to Flynn's Arcade.

I was at Comic-Con last year and the only way to get into the Arcade from my understanding was you had to be given the "swag bag" that had all the cool Tron stuff at the Disney 3-D panel. So even though the end event took place off site you still had to be at Comic-Con to get the stuff to start you on your journey.

It totally sucked because we had planned on seeing that panel but people started lining up for Hall H almost 18 hours before it started, which always seems to happen now. Also the panel that had Tron was before the Twilight panel so you had people camping the room all day to see that one thing and it made it so everyone that wanted to see the earlier panels were S.O.L.

Not true! The "goodie bags" (well, envelopes) were given out at the initial meeting point, not at the Disney 3D panel. I too was disappointed by the Twi-hards camping that panel hours in advance because it was immediately before the Twilight panel. I reckon a good 50-80% of people in Hall H for that panel didn't care about it at all.

Concur'd. No one had any idea really what was going to be happening at GZ. Bags and everything were handed out to the crowd and those in line at the meeting area, and instructions were told to the group there. I'm pretty sure there must have been some non-CCers around who dropped in for the flash mob too Smile

It wouldn't make too much sense, logically speaking, to have (many) con-only meetings or events, especially to something that is as extremely limited-access as the San Diego CC this year. The turnout for it might still be good but it would still be not as large as it could be or should be with as many people participating as there are. So, it's not unlikely that an event will coincide with SDCC, but it would be illogical to think it's only accessible that way. Also, first post, and loving these forums Smile
