Actually, Test Chamber 15 is just fairly easy, it just looks hard at first

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Try putting a portal above the radio

I think I sort of object to having to pay for the exact same game twice, was my primary concern. Smile

I am also not a very strong keyboard/mouse shooter player (I got sort of used to it with UT3, but it's more frustrating and energy-sapping than FUN, which is the POINT of playing games, amirite?), so getting it through Steam means either enduring traditional shooter controls, or possibly having to screw with .ini files to make this old PC controller I've got works with the game, as I am not entirely sure it will.

Anyhow, this is all very cool, despite my grumblings, and although I'd like very much to have the hands-on experience, I can still enjoy the external materials.

Windows has drivers that'll make your 360 controllers work on your computer as normal gamepads if you hook them up with the little USB charger. I've never gotten them to work on XP (Although it could just be because the computer I was trying to do it on is a relic), but I know that they come already installed on Vista

OK, I "cheated" in that I looked at the videos someone posted. The hard part was FINDING the radios; the four I was missing I would have never found on my own.

The Steam forums made me think an interesting theory...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We might be looking at a cross-over here.

At the end of HL2: Episode 2, Gordon is told about the Borealis, a vessel from Aperture Science...

http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Borealis

So this could conceivably be either for Portal 2 or for HL2:EP3.

So what do you think would happen if Gordon gets his hands on a portal gun?

Very Happy

(425) 822-5251

You'll need a modem (dial-up) though. Good luck!

I'm back for this one. Here's hoping it's something more of a full ARG rather than the fun time-waster website from pre-portal's launch. Either way, I had fun getting my achievement unlocked last night.

Portal just updated again today:

Quote:
Portal
* Added valuable asset retrieval

Anyone have any idea what that means?

ETA: According to reports...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
...they CHANGED THE ENDING... I'll try it for myself shortly.

I have a feeling this isn't actually going to be an ARG-- rather a viral marketing campaign for Portal 2 or HL2 Episode 3 (or both-- squee!)

For those of you who don't want to read the Valve Conspiracies facepunch thread, here's a summary.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The BBS photos taken from here give a variety of different pictures, plus a lot of text. The text reads:

October 17th, 1976
RE: Human Enrichment Testing Initiative, Resource Acquisitions

1. Low risk human resource acquisitions
a. Hoboes and tramps

Lives spent wandering aimlessly, cowering before authority, and drinking
concussive amounts of home-distilled potato alcohol make hoboes
the perfect Human Enrichment test subjects. The hobo questions nothing,
will follow orders if fed, and like all hoboes, has a restless, wandering heart. (Note: the wandering heart of hobo should not be confused with Drifting Heart Syndrome, which several transients contracted during testing.)

b. Child Orphans and Foundlings
Deep-rooted abandonment issues leave most orphans highly susceptible to shame-based psychology (for a complete list of opportune moments to obliterate the esteem of test subjects, please consult Training Video M89-D, "You'd perform this test better if you had parents"). Recent advances in the use of scorn, flattery use in an ironic context, and naked contempt as motivational tools, have yielded similarly profitable results.

c. Psychiatric Patients
Past experience shows these fellows are simply not at all shy about carrying on, disrupting tests, and defecating just about anywhere that pleases them. Frankly, it's off-putting, and small wonder why Aperture-brand mental institutions are being phased out in favor of more orphanages.

d. Seniors
Frail, brittle hands make holding science devices difficult. Most were born before the advent of sfcience, and can become confused and disoriented when asked to paritcipate in relatively simple tests (teleportation, invisibility, adjusting esteem levels of orphan children).

--RECORD ENDS--[/quote]

Another reads:

MEMORANDUMS: Filed under CJohnson: 76550293-G

A lot of you have been raising concerns about the so-called "dangers" of what we're all doing here. The beancounters told me to tell you that as of today, testing will no longer be as mandatory or as dangerous. That's not gonna happen, and here's the reason:

Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask, Why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: Why not marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired.

Plus, in the event of your death, I personally guarantee that, thanks to the form you were required to sign this morning, your family will not suffer the indignities of a prolonged and costly legal battle against Aperture Science. Trust me, I am rich, and it i s a burden I would not wish on anyone.

To summarize: 6218376213 wjqehkjh -213999^%@5*(*@))@)#*a@

--RECORD ENDS--

They've also found some more sound files, which can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7ALEgQeBS4 . At :14, some people are saying they hear Alyx Vance saying "Get down, they're everywhere!" I advise someone who's good with Audacity to try slowing it down and see if they can get anything else.

The new ending Nighthawk mentioned can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJruBtuUACo

Hope this helps.
