1} well aware of what it is for, as you already said it. I was posting the full info which is how we normally tend to do stuff here, rather than just saying "there's info someplace" it is best to give said info here. Smile

2} there is no forest per se, that's GLaDOS room that you blew up, over run with plantlife {like all good ruins should be} but the portal between her room and the new room must have been open for a while, because that vine is growing right on through!

The new name and pass give text that looks like this: http://pastebin.com/stHSgY2V

I assume it looks somewhat different on the BBS. I'll post a screenshot when one gets posted on the internet.

EDIT: A huge success can be found here: http://bayimg.com/image/oalehaaca.jpg

EDIT 2: Some amount of satisfaction: http://booto.bur.st/portal/coop.jpg

Ah yes. I realised that. Kinda forgot that. Sorry, oops.

Actually, especially given the implications in the first portal, think that isn't the same complex as the first one it's another one that maybe got lost in the forest around the time of HL2.

Oh. My. God... Do people realize what they are looking at in that image? That's a massive throwback to the old days of 320x200/40x25 character displays and monochrome monitors. It looks identical to the old style overlays people use on overhead projectors; I know because I learned Pascal in a class that used one of those... in 1987.

ETA: Portal 2 forums are now live on the Steam site...

So i realize this is REALLY old news {like 2 years old}, and obviously could have been changed by now, but at http://kotaku.com/5015122/more-details-on-portal-2s-bad-guy it basically says they got script samples including a bit from Cave Johnson, the CEO of Aperture.

Quote:
He tells an unnamed rookie test subject via loudspeaker that "As of this mornin' yer old buddy Cave has been resurrected inside of a computer. And I never felt better!" acting as this entry's GlaDOS—possibly that prototypical GlaDOS, as theorized earlier—encouraging the player to continue the testing while waxing philosophical about the afterlife.

"I been thinkin," the script reads, "Heck, suspended as I am in this inky purgatorium, I got nothin' to do but think. What if them engineers didn't do me no favors pourin' me into a computer? What if they denied me my final reward?"

Considering the info we got from the BBS {sidenote, someone asked today what a BBS was and i felt OLD!!!!}. this seemed worth adding to some spec about the game, or character info, or whatever. Granted, again, it is like 2 years old and not a part of this experience, it was written none the less.

For those wondering, here's the details that are known for Portal 2:

*SPOILER ALERT*

http://www.vg247.com/2010/03/07/portal-2-gi-feature-gets-scanned-is-internetalised-looks-awesome/#more-84092

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
* The game takes place hundreds of years after the original. Hence why the Aperture centre looks a lot like a jungle possibly.
* GlaDOS returns as the main villain, with the subject from the last game, Chell, coming back to be the protagonist.
* The co-op campaign is separate from the main story in the game. It lets you play as two bipedal robots.
* Those personality cores thrown into the fire at the end of the last game? They've shut off areas of the Aperture lab and made it their own.
* Physics has a bigger role this time, with one demo showing a portal could be used from an air vent to suck air from one area to an another.
* Reflection cubes will be added to the game for laser-based puzzles.
* Valve had no idea Portal 1 would be so big.
* The original Portal was seen as a "test bed". The sequel will be a fully fledged title.

There are also reports of an official trailer to be released at GDC (Gabe Newell will be receiving a special "Pioneer Award") for a holiday release on PC and XBox 360 (no PS3).

One slight correction to your spoiler, Nighthawk.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's the Personality cores seen near the cake that have taken over the facility. Not the ones that were incinerated.

Still. I'm curious as to what inspired valve to take this direction with portal. Especially isolating it from the rest of the HL series... In which it's probably safe to assume that Gordon wins... unless. [Rampant Spec] after episode three, they plan to throw gordon into the far future again for Half-Life 3... Assuming there IS even a HL3.

Yes, you're correct. I did copy it verbatim and I admit I was a bit puzzled with that. Forgot about what you refer to.

Gabe Newell, founder and managing director of Valve Software, receives a "Pioneer Award" at the Game Developer's Conference.

Gabe Newell's award was supossedly ruined with a blue-screen... right up until you realise it's a windows 3.11 blue-screen. Clever and sneaky bastards. This thing ain't dead yet. Atleast... no-one actually managed to catch what the blue-screen said. Oops.

Also, Glados on the BBS was also version 3.11. Photo! Though a word of warning. It may be fake. Still funny though.

So, some clever people have figured out the hex in the BSOD, the picture I posted is real and the hex code hidden in said image says, Suspended until E3.

Code:
GLaDOS
A fatal exception (S) has occurred at (U)(S) : (P)(E)(N)(D) in (U)(N )(T)((I)) *
(L)(E)(E)(E). The current application will be terminated.

* Press any key to flood the facility with deadly neurotoxins.
* Press CTRL+ALT+DEL again to reinstate testing. You will lose any
Non-vital personnel and their progress through the current test.

Press any key to continue _

So if they're putting this on hold for three months... It will probably come back nice and big. As implied by the image that nighthawk posted earlier with the ancient school blue and grey text.
