Act IV: Terrance and the Lost Mix Tape (IN PROGRESS SPOILERS

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Ah...Vernal Equinox did not have a chalk drawing. We did spot someone on the "trail" 2 blocks ahead of us when we first started and they quickly turned around and ran off.

Also...did anyone else have their hand kissed prior to all members removing the blindfolds?

A Question

I've got the audio files posted on megaupload and the images from the lost mixtape on my flickr page. I put them there to share with my squad. Does anyone object to me posting them here?

hand kiss

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
HAND KISS!

I definitely had my hand kissed--but when I asked the other members of my group if they'd felt it too, they all looked at me like I was crazypants. I thought maybe I'd imagined it.

Embarassed

by the way, greetings from a long time lurker.

After the thing
with the thing and the hands and things

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You know about the thing Terrance says you can get access to? By doing something as a group?

My group finished it. It's very worth it. There was a payoff, in terms of the narrative. Also, please finish it if you haven't, as I would like to rock more.

This thing has been done by another group. However, it wasn't done to Terrance's satisfaction. If I might impose, could you elaborate?

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Did you have 8 tracks of ambient sounds? Other sounds? Songs? Spoken word tracks? Did you remix the audio? Did you make a tracklist? Did you make a sleeve? Any other suggestions?

I'm not sure exactly how ours went out, but we figured we just needed to get essentially 8 ambient tracks in a zip file to him. That was inadequate, it appears. I'm happy to try again (ok, not HAPPY GLEE, but not GRR!) but I'd rather get it right this time.

Thanks

I can do that. Also, I've found Terrance to be super-good about answering questions, but I'll take a stab at it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We were a little literalist in our initial interpretation of "mix of found sound," too, but it was cleared up that it could be songs and really anything. It need not be all-original-material. In fact, you walked out of there with a great example, so hopefully everyone in your squadron got to listen to it.

That being said, those that have finished this part have also done some original material, both with ambient recordings and music (covers, original tunes, etc). Some of the other members of my group are musicians, so we have original stuff on ours, which is cool. But it doesn't have to be any more complicated than a nice mix of stuff you guys like. Regarding remixing: our group's mixer did some found-sound over songs stuff, some song-to-song transitions, but nothing complicated.

Other hints: we delivered ours in two files, of the appropriate length to fit on the sides of a (thing you got). Neither group came up with cover art in the mp3, initially, but my group's working on it. (A group can submit more stuff once they're in; we asked, Terrance confirmed.) We included a track list, not everyone has.

There's also the matter of your crew's story, which you didn't mention. Did you include that with your submission?

Hope that helps!

the thing with the thing and the palms

I second what 7au said; the other thing you might think about is the

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
story. Initially we had a very rudimentary story and it soon became clear that what Terrance was looking for was something much more imaginitive; a creation story, of a sort, was the way we looked at it.

Thank you Jason and superdilettante. We do indeed have a
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
group founding story. It has some parallels to the story of one member of a royal family in the land of Bel-Air. T's response was critical of our mix, and not our story, as far as I can tell.

The Mix Tape.

Has anyone sent a message to Kelvin to let him know that we are in possession of a

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

?

These archives (both the digital one here and the physical one at the Preliger Library) are not complete. There have been several mentions of some sort of cassette tape or demo tape that has gone missing. If you know anything about this or have any other relevant artifacts that you would like to share, please get in contact with me, kelvinwilliamsSPLATmail.org.

I know he escaped; maybe he can get to his email now.

I think most of the questions have been answered, but I'll chime in on behalf of the Crossbones Crew:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We used the golden mix tape we found during our romp through Oakland as a guide, and created a mix tape of our own. About 25% of our mix tape was original material, but the rest was just songs suggested by various members of our octet. We sprinkled in some interesting sound bites, added a snippet from a film, and even put a little bit of Eva in there, and voila, a mix tape. Our biography was much easier. We're time traveling pirates, you see, so we told the truth and that was more interesting than any fictional account we could have created.

And that's pretty much it.

SE7ENTS have joined the repository. note their jcard:

'8 turned into 7 which turned into 5'

8 to 7 because they had someone fill in during their quest that then returned to their own group. 7 to 5 because they kicked out one of the members for no good reason (who has now joined a far better squad). i donno why the other person is gone. prolly kicked out too. so. yeah. welcome.

Still awaiting approval on joining.
