So I was wondering if anyone knew whether there were shops that created diecast figurines based on the customers design. If so I think it would be awesome to make diecast miniatures based on the original bits that were sent out. Maybe like two inches in height, and using a similar stand design as the papercraft posted in this thread. Put the Tron symbol on the front of the stand and maybe the Unfiction badge on the back.

If someone's 3d savvy there are websites such as Shapeways that will 3d print this sort of thing for a small fee. I've considered it myself but I'm not in a position to purchase the software that I'd need to do it.

Not sure about die-cast, but I have a friend who makes his living making custom action figures and models, mostly SF-stuff. If you're interested, I'll see if I can contact him and ask him rates. I know he has a website with some commercials, but don't remember the site off the top of my head.

If only we knew where these were made originally... I guess I could look up prototypers in the surrounding 42E neighborhoods.

I don't have a bit, but once I found out how they were made I did do some research. The machine made ones - the plastic-like ones they sent out - ain't particularly cheap. And I do know of some places that will make the product in metal as well.

But it's nowhere near the quality of die-cast metal.

As for the software to do it, Blender is free. It's just a pain in the ass to use. Smile

So, I talked with my friend who does the custom figures and such. He has a website at www.suckadelic.com

I didn't ask about prices, because I figure that it depends on the size, complexity, material, time factor, etc. I did tell him a little bit about what people might be wanting. He gave me his card and said that you folks should feel free to contact him and he'd be happy to work with you and see what he could do. Hope everyone can get something they like at reasonable prices!

Hmm looking at his site it appears that he does his work by creating silicon molds, and then casting it in resin. Something that I have been curious about playing around with for some time. Looking a little more into resin casting I saw that you can mix metal alloy powders into the resin as well to get different metal finishings. I'm thinking if I can put together a first set of models I may be able to play around to producing these myself. Or at least attempt the project for fun. lol. Gonna have to jump to the drawing boards once I got the time.

I saw FSURobbie's really cool Tron-inspired portrait on this thread a few weeks ago and thought that I would give it a try as well. I might take it into Illustrator later on to give it a more streamlined appearance, but I'm pretty happy with the results. This is most likely going to be my Facebook profile image sooner or later, lol.

Anyone thought about doing 1" buttons/pins of the Flynn Lives achievement badges?

I've been thinking of making something like acheivement badges, my sewing machine doubles as an embroidery machine but I'm having trouble figuring out how to get the badges programed onto one of the memory cards my machine uses. I'm thinking I might just hand embroider some, some of them seem simple enough... and the others I would probably do with iron on transfers or simplify the design.

If I do end up hand embroidering I'll make a tutorial and if I can get my machine to cooperate I'll give you guys a shout out. Very Happy

To keep myself busy from last weekend to November when I get to go to ElecTRONica I decided to start doing badge patches by hand. Its rather fun and their time consuming nature is just what I need. I was going to make a how to but they are actually really straight forward to make. Just have to remember to do the background first. I'll probably redo the Flynn's Arcade badge with just a simple all bright red background though, I don't like how the two reds came out (it doesn't really look like the glow effect :/).
