I did a forum search and didn't find anyone noticing this yet, but when I try to access Kurt's Desktop, I got this:

http://www.encominternational.com/error.htm?aspxerrorpath=/accessinfration.aspx

Notice the "access infraction" part of the url? Interesting. They have to be updating it.

 Deadline coming!

There is a deadline coming for creating Encom badges, as noted by this thread on the Flynn Lives forums:

There have been a good amount of new Group 7 Emails posted on the intranet over the last 2 weeks, here they are, starting with the most recent and decending from there:

It's finally time to pull the trigger on "Space Paranoids Online" (how do you like that for a pun?)

Despite the naysayers, yammering on about "glitches" and "compromising our vision," this is the most exciting product we have released in ages. So, let's silence the dissenting voices and get behind the Encom brand.

Space Paranoids is finally online.

...But Kevin Flynn really deserves the kudos. He was the one who first broached the subject of sustainability with the shareholders. You can just imagine how happy they were! Flynn wanted to eliminate the overuse of freighters, cargo planes and semis - that's what ultimately led to our partnership with Dumont (then known as Telninger's). And it's been 20 years - really makes you think.

How Kevin came up with the name "Dumont" is beyond me. I just wish he had hung around long enough to see me sign the deal. It happened in that blink of an eye between his disappearance and when I was replaced as CEO.

But, on to happier times, right? Wherever my buddy is now, on whatever plane of reality, existence or consciousness, I hope he's proud of the work I'm doing in his name... with all my heart, mind and soul - I hope.

That seals the deal - I'm getting pregnant!

Come back soon, Chrissie - can't wait to share a cubicle with you again!

When I had my baby, Encom offered me six weeks of maternity leave (at a reduced salary, natch). But I needed the money, so I opted to continue working from home. And let me tell you, e-commuting has changed my life!

While other folks are stuck in rush hour traffic and spending loads of cash on gas money and speeding tickets, I'm safe at home with my laptop and bunny slippers. Sorry to gloat, but this is the way modern business should be.

My apartment is kinda small, but it beats the heck out of my old cubicle (smelled like stale toner and misery in there).

Oops, gotta go - my microwave burrito is almost ready!

Subject: Our Digital Footprint
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010, 8:36pm

Environmentalists (I know a few of 'em) are always discussing our carbon footprint. While that is a vitally important conversation to be having, it got me thinking on a bit of a tangent - what is our digital footprint?

We interact with technology every day. Everyone has an e-mail address (or five) and we crave information like never before. Streaming podcasts and trending topics, measured on an epic scale - we are tapped into the digital world... but, is it a part of us, or some alternate landscape independent of human interaction? That is to say, how are we represented in terms of pure information? Is there a map of our comings and goings? Can all of our activities be quantified in terms of pulses and waves?

As always, I'm not looking for answers to these cryptic questions - it's just fun to ask them.

I just wanted to respond to Jacob (and all the other employees who are urging Encom to go paperless) with a friendly reminder: hard copies are an essential backup tool in the inner-workings of a company like ours.

Take, as a point of reference, the rolling blackouts of 1997. Where would we have been if we had lost a week's worth of account information? Or a month's? We might not have been able to file our quarterly earnings report on time...

...The very thought of it scares me to my core.

Subject: Too Much Paperwork
Friday, April 16th, 2010, 9:23am

Is there any way we could reduce the need for the mountains off paperwork we generate in accounts payable? I know how important it is to keep a hard copy of the transactions we process, but printing every weekly record seems like overkill. Perhaps we can find a happy medium.

It's not that I'm a tree-hugger, or anything, but the waste we tend to create is a bit obnoxious. We all respect Alan Bradley and the environmental work he has done with Encom over the years - maybe we can take a page from his book (pardon the pun) and help conserve paper. Just a thought.

--Jacob

Well, very good reads here, since the 'Group 7-3 Email' blackouts at Encom. Happy reading!

I was wondering if anyone has tried to check on their ENCOM I.D. employee number? It looked like it might be something in HEX Code to me so I checked it out. I ended up with

Already been discussed in IRC and it's generally thought to turn into random gibberish.

Someone did some simple analyzing of a group of I.D. #'s looking for patterns, including (I'm assuming) checking out hex-ASCII codes to no avail. The codes seem to be pretty random. Doesn't mean there's not something there, just that noone's found anything yet. Current best guess is that each badge was assigned a random value.

For giggles, here's mine ASCIIed: eûÖƒ

Intranet Down

It seems Encom shut down its employee intranet. Completely. But "ZackAttack" did manage to get the last Group 7 updates before everything went south...

You're kidding me. Ha! Well, now there is nothing to stop him. Now it's just Hardington and the MCP running things from on high, man.
