[SPEC] Relativity to the Matrix

Seeing as how so many people are starting to ask questions about the matrix, and creating longer threads I thought hey. I'll start a new one entirely devoted to the relativity of this ARG to the Matrix, as well as answer any questions that a die hard fan can about the movie.

From my own research and database about the original matrix (my religion) I'm going to give some of the 'mistakes' that may not have actually been mistakes!

THE MATRIX (1999)
-----------------------
When Neo comes to work he glances at the name of his company. The sign says Metacortex. When Neo is running from the agents there is a sign on the back wall which says Meta Cortechs.

When Neo is out on the scaffolding and looses his phone, in one shot you see the phone falling towards an empty street, then you cut to Neo, and then back to the falling phone. This time the street is filled with people and a big parade

In the interrogation room. Mr. Smith has a green file with him with Neo data accumulated. Smith opens the file and leafs through a few sheets, without removing any, but in subsequent shots we can see that some sheets have been removed from the file and put on the left.

These were just some quirks noticed after viewing this movie probably 100 times Smile
The first mistake though... seems to have some relation with the mispelling of the Metacortex website URL (www.metacortechs.com).

Though these are probably not clues to solving these riddles, they might make you rethink about mistakes here and there not being forseen Smile

Likewise, please start posting questions about the Matrix here, I'll do my best to answer.

Ah yes secondly, it always seemed to me that Mister Anderson lived in New York.

On the directory part of the Metacortex website, they do have a branch for New York. And Thomas Anderson's status says that he is 'TRANSFERRED' so perhaps this is actually taking place BEFORE Neo.

Was it ever stipulated that Neo lived in NY? Being an Aussie, I'd like to jump up and down and remind everyone that the Matrix trilogy was filmed right here in Sydney... which makes no sense to the ARG whatever, coz the only office Metacortex has in Oz is in Melbourne.

(note: if you look reeeeeeeeal close in the Agent Training programme scene in M1, you can see the bus stop my fiancee gets off at to go to work! Yay! my only claim to fame... Laughing )

Aye, the whole movie was filmed in Sydney. The special effects gurus are from Australia to!

But, it was designed, obviously to look American?

I mean don't you guys drive on the carriage side of the road? (Drivers seat is on the right)?

Theres also all that "China Town" stuff in the movie. Though they do never directly say what country its from. I just get the feeling its new york from the tall skyscrapers, the population and density of the people. The dirty look to everything. and lastly I believe it is from America because...
"How about this I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call. I know my rights".

Thats straight American!

Also it does not look much like Seattle, Tacoma, or Redmond in Washington.
But who knows? This probably just a crazy theory I have again. But my hunches have lead me to be true before (I knew from the first time I saw the Matrix that the Oracle was not human... no one would believe me!)

Azetoth666 had this to say:

Quote:
Well, if Agent Smith has been around through a Reload, it could explain why he goes all viral: something buggered up on the server when they brought the Agent.Smith program back online, else he wasn't shut down properly before the Matrix was reloaded

Yes, yes. There is much hype about how/who/what Smith is. Lets use Ockham's Razor though to try and find the basis about him.

An Agent has the ability to move in and out of any body hardwired to the Matrix. Smith had this ability as an Agent. But now he is unplugged (yes, unplugged like a human gets unplugged).
He now has altered abilities, that he can move INTO a human wired to the matrix and stay there (basically uploading his data over their neural net processor). He can even now do this to beings that are loaded artificially (like Morpheus, Bane and Neo). And FURTHER MORE has the ability to overwrite a persons brain!

This is a GINORMOUS event, this means that the Machines all along could just be over writing peoples minds to be slaves? Or perhaps that they had this ability over humans this whole time, means that the Matrix does exist for more purpose then as a power supply.

Anyways I'm watching M*A*S*H at the same time so now I'm really lost to what I am doing and this may come out as nothing more then a grotesque babble! Please ask questions if what I said didn't make sense

Really, what is your basis for believing he worked in New York?

Secondly even if the city bore any resemblance to New York or even Sydney, I think in the Matrix it's everywhere and it's no where. Meaning it's a computer program and therefore the city you thought you were working in changed, and so did your memory of you working in that city. You might have been going to work in Nevada all your life, then one day wake up and you work in New Hampshire. And somehow you know this to be true, you've ALWAYS worked in New Hampshire. Even though somewhere in your subconscious is a deteriorating memory that you worked in Nevada.

That's the Matrix! It's a lot like Dark City. "Okay, this poor gay homeless guy... Let's make him the president of the United States who loves his wife and kids."

Aye but the machines have realized if they pull stunts like that on us it causes people to become aware of the Matrix and awaken from it.
The entire world of the Matrix was based on our history so why couldn't they have real cities?
Of course they would be much different... New York is probably directly connected to Africa with no ocean in between unless it has to be loaded for a boat program! Its crazy crazy!

But then again, the picture of Neo's building is the exact same on the homepage... yeah god damn its confusing.

Only unlike Dark City, you have this strange sense of deja vu, and people tend to morph into creepy guys in MIB suits and glasses so they can blast the living hell out of people running away from you...

BUT THAT'S ALREADY HAPPENING! If it wasn't there wouldn't even be a movie unless it was all based on all Zion born citizens saving humanity. But those people who have escaped the Matrix, and have holes on their body did so because they thought something was wrong with the world.

You already get a sense that the machines are a little self conscious in dealing with the humans. "Hey, if we change this on them, they're so dumb and unintelligent they won't know. LOLOLOL."

look at the other cities in the directory

and redland is no doubt an alternate city for Redmond, which does exist. So whose to say its not a replica?
