Page 5 Smile
I had my instincts from the beginning and they ended up being right!!
It took a lot of convincing on my part to my dad to drive down there before anyone else could have grabbed it Smile

I think I may have to keep my secret of what it took to find it Smile
but it was Interstate 39 at marker 2!

If I could find a way to post a picture I would!!

Illinois was the 21st state, I-39 from the "39 Clues" book, but what led you to mile marker two?

And congratulations!

how high off the ground was the little pentagonal tree tag? Was it close to the ground, eye level, or high up?

To tell you the truth, I can't remember for sure. I want to say maybe knee or waist high? I know I didn't have to crouch down low or reach up high to take the picture of it.

I see the 56, but where did you get 80/90 from?

I posted this over at tweleve, but I'll post it here for those who don't frequent that forum...

hehe, I counted the balloons a couple of times and never managed to get 80. To be honest, I didn't think I'd find the 7 at the location I went to. Even when I saw the marking on the tree, I thought it was a coincidence.

I felt strongly that the 56 would be used and I knew there were only a few mile marker 56 rest stops in the U.S. The most promising seemed to be either Arkansas on I-30 at mile marker 56 or Indiana on 80/90 at mile marker 56.

The Indiana one just happened to be down the road from my house. I tried to find an 80 or 90 on the floor before heading out there, but the best I came up with was adding a bunch of the numbers up to get 90. (56+30+7+5-8=90). It felt forced, especially since that meant I was using the 56 for both the mile marker and to add up to 90.

With the 30 right there on the pizza box, I thought for sure it was going to be in Arkansas on I-30. Since the text mentioned Gary, IN and the map on the floor was missing the balloons near Lake Michigan, I went out to look at the rest stop even though I doubted I would find anything. I've gotta thank the people I was brainstorming with too for pushing me to go

Posted this over on Tweleve.org regarding my search for the 9th floor number, figured I will share it here as well.

Drove out about 7 hours from Portland, OR yesterday to the rest stop near Fruitaland, ID just across the Oregon/Idaho Border.... NOTHING!
Spent over and hour looking at every single tree, bush, and plant in the vicinity. No markings on anything and no suspicious looking spots on the ground. I've had a suspision for some time that it was Idaho, Hwy 84, Mile 1 and after the other numbers started turning up at rest stops I was convinced. Unfortunately, to quote Mr. Twintig, "Sometimes the answer is incorrect; sometimes incorrect is the answer."
Does anyone else have any working theories on this? I considered driving further into Idaho and looking at other rest stops but as it was I didn't get back home until almost 2am. Oh well. Can't say it wasn't an exciting adventure.

Bad news from me today. We've confirmed floor four is NOT DE 95 5. That rest area is STILL under construction (has been since September), and apparently they ripped out all the trees. My boyfriend drove out there this morning, looked all over MM 5, Exit 5, and didn't find anything.

Back to the drawing board. Rolling Eyes

The book was open on the table to floor two and in the story on the opposite side, they repeatedly said "2" and since no other number was really mentioned, I settled with it being mile 2.

Finally. I was starting to think it disappeared. So many people were looking for this for quite a while.

I figured out the location of the Floor 10 Emerald. A friend of mine was much closer to it than I was and he went digging last night and found the 2 from the emerald khroniker! I don't have pictures so I haven't posted to any message boards. When he sends them to me I will! Good Luck Junior Deducers!!!

Had visited this site twice before. Once about 4 weeks ago and again on Monday hunting until 3 AM by flashlight nonetheless. Just got back home, almost 12:30 am Thurs. What a day. Well we thought it if you believed the I76 MM45 to be correct that there was only 2 options left. It was still buried but marker was gone or it was already discovered and the marker was gone. Our team checked tweleve before we left and no one had posted that they had found it. So we went with the idea that we would check out trees near the parking lot/rest room areas for any nail holes, abnormal scuff marks on the bark that looked like someone could have pried something off, etc. We decided to really limit our search in this manner, but we would dig at any suspicious area that met this criteria. We got there about 7:30 pm and only the truckers were there, no other teams, no one hunting at all. We started our search and actually dug at 3 or 4 other trees that fit our criteria without finding anything. We were pretty systematic working over the area. Then we found a tree in the back corner that had a square tin silver marker on it, about a foot off the ground, secured by three nails and a pen drawing of the pentagon shape etched into it. It was not there on Monday when we were there hunting, but we remembered that tree because it had a large scuff mark on it at its base and was one we knew we were going to check out tonight. At first, we thought someone was just screwing with people because it looked so contrived and not like the other markers have looked. A hoax, we thought. But it fit our criteria and so we dug. Shovel went in and nothing. Next strike--Thud---my friend actually shrieked "that's hollow", I shifted the shoved up a bit and struck again and the same sound--Thud. Adrenaline started pumping. I levered up the turf and looked down into the hole. Saw a plastic sandwich bag and yelled, "It's it!!!!". Another lift of the shovel and I pulled the black box out. We screamed like three teenage girls at a Jonas Brother's concert. We still couldn't believe it and even now it seems surreal. The box was badly damage due to water. My hands were shaking so bad I could barely open up the cloth. It felt flat and not like a number at all and I even thought again, it's a hoax. But we opened it and there it was--#5--with its big emerald eye. I still can't believe it. Perseverance paid off. I will post a pix if I can figure out how to do that off my phone.

From stercox's post on tweleve. Sounds like the PMs intervened to me! Maybe that's why Gus has been mostly silent for a couple days. He still hasn't responded to my email.
