That said, this is definitely a new version. This version felt much easier, though perhaps that's due to controls, and I don't recall tanks and turrets in the SDCC version.

I think it was purely the controls that made it crazy. And IIRC, there were no tanks or turrets in the first, even second levels of this game anyway. I don't think anyone got past the 2nd level at SDCC, of the few who even made it past level one Smile The codes for the Derez showed up on beating level 1.

I'm pretty sure this is the same game, ported one way or another (perhaps the arcade boxes were running the unity3d engine onscreen already?) just set up with different control schemes.

Its quite likely. Setting up computer based cabinets is more an more likely now a days. *refers to mame cabinets*

I wonder what it would be like if I adapted my old Coleco Vision ball joystick for the pc and tried playing. Would definitely give it the old school feel; even if it makes it a lil harder.

How do you play it off line? I saved the unity 3d file and the website as an .mht but it does not work and i have no idea what to change in the script for the mht so it does. Too bad you can't play against other players or make your own maps.

If anyone else figures this out I would like to know as well. Would hate to see the game disappear over time.

2 Point your browser (with the Unity plugin already installed) at the file you just downloaded

And presto! You have Space Paranoids OFFLINE

I played up to Sector 12 again today -- picked one of the warps and again ended up "outside" the maze. I haven't travelled all along the wall of the side you get teleported out too yet -- I did travel along the other 3 sides and did not find any hidden pockets/chambers. I did start traveling along the initial wall but the game "froze"/became too "busy".

I also noticed that it looks like you get teleported into a small pockect within the outer wall and you can travel forward to the outside of the maze (haven't tried other directions yet). I tried going back through the wall where you exit but couldn't get back in.

Stupid question. How do you "2 Point your browser (with the Unity plugin already installed) at the file you just downloaded"

Right click the file and choose Open With is the easiest way, or you can use the local file path as your URL, the exact syntax of which depends on your OS and browser.

Strange, neither option works for me. When I right click, the "open with" option is not there. When I paste the path into my browser, it says it cannot locate the file.

To confirm, the file I should be targeting is the "UnityWebPlayer" correct?

Thanks for the help BTW.

The file name (if you saved using the default) should be Tron2v7.unity3d and not the name of the plugin.

What OS and browser are you using? I know on Mac OS X it's a wee bit tedious at times to get a browser to choke down a local file path.

Strangely, this method doesn't work in Chrome. I can open up the .unity3d file easily from the site itself, but when I attempt to open my local copy it brings up a Save As... dialog.

Firefox seems to be the most consistent with local file paths across the platforms, at least in that the path starts with file:/// then uses the local path naming conventions. I couldn't get Safari to cooperate with the 'drag and drop' method just now, and am not sure it'll let me use any other method. Being sibling to Chrome, that could explain why it's not working.

Thanks Ping Cruft, already had the file backed up on my hard drive. Surprised I didn't think of opening it with the browser. lol fail.

Thanks everyone. Got it to work. I was downloading the utility and not the file as Euchre suggested. Once I realized this it worked fine in Firefox.

Extra keys/cheats

Ok, so I've been thinking. First, we've got the hidden areas. We know about those.

But reading the quote on the intratnet page:

Quote:
Hard Work Pays Off
Thursday, May 6th

Now that Space Paranoids is blasting its way onto computers around the globe, it's time to congratulate all of the programmers, sales reps and other employees who made this project come to life. Thousands of man-hours went into developing "S.P. Online," and we don't want anything to sully the good name of this product… or Encom as a whole.

That's why we must remind you not to dwell on any issues you may have with the finished product.

Lots of games are released with slight idiosyncrasies still lurking in their code, but we don't need to publicize the matter. After all, this is a classic title that was created decades ago – the peculiarities are what give Space Paranoids its charm.

I'd like to undertake a full exploration of the game. Now, I just noticed that 'g' turns a glow on/off on your tank. If there's one hidden command, there may be more.

Anyone notice any other keystrokes? I'm also curious as to if there's a way to enable more info on your map. I've been trying various keystroke combos to no avail. Shift/CTRL don't seem to do anything. Anyone have any other ideas?
