lol @ people being huge f*cking dicks about this.

It's not "YOUR" ARG game. It's a crafty marketing ploy from treyarch. The GAME will be released 11/9/2010. How many arg guys are actually interested in call of duty? Five? Less?

Why do you think they gave carbon the briefcase? And he was invited to treyarch studios? Probably because he loves COD, and nazi zombies...not to mention has his own site dedicated to them.

You guys, however, are only interested in this marketing 'game' only as long as it lasts. So don't stand here and lecture us about how stupid he is for doing what he's doing. If you don't like it, go find another stupid marketing ploy from another insanely large corporation that only wants to generate buzz for their next product.

Lolreally because according to the alleged hit list, this game belongs more to unFiction than it does to CoDz.

carbonfibah: from CoDz
Vosty3: from CoDz
AzureWolf: from unFiction
MrToasty: from unFiction
Shizzire: from unFiction
PerdíElJuego: from unFiction
Shoreyo: from CoDz

mmmk, you explain to me why they're marketing a multi-million dollar game to a single site with <400 members, when say CoD Nation which has over 7,000 members didn't even get a USB stick. Yeah, something is seriously fishy with this game.......

And how do you get off coming over here to a site with a far larger potential audience than CoDz, and get all high and mighty? I'm getting the impression CodZ thinks they run this game and the world.

And that's exactly how it played out. Of course the people here at uF ("altERNatE REality GAMiNG") are interested in the ARG aspect of this! But, I'm glad you point that out in case anyone here wasn't aware. Because of this the skills of the good people are uF were used to their fullest to help this little Treyarch experiment of an ARG along and what's their reward? Nothing, it all goes to those who were die-hard dedicated to begin with. Sooooo, no one "new" or outside the realm of the franchise is more than an afterthought or name on a "hit" list. But their skills to make this thing possible and give it some sort of life sure were thoroughly enjoyed! I'm so sick of hearing that "but it was sent to COD fans" yeah and it was also sent to gaming news outlets just the same. Once everything was solved, figured out and came back around full circle, we find out the intentions all along were to keep the whole thing within the 1337 uber COD following anyhow.

Didn't you post in Usenet?

If so, they easily could have taken your IP address from the headers and ip2location'd it.

NEW e-mail from GKNOVA6

I just got a (verified) e-mail from gknova6SPLATgmail.com:

Quote:

Subject:Re: Drop from Giovan to Ace
As you may or may not be aware of, certain items have been taken from us. Any information you have concerning its whereabouts would be appreciated. We expect your discretion. EOM

ETA: This was in response to my e-mail to him:

ETA2: My response:
Quote:
Well look who crawled out from under the carpet... Yes I have information. LOTS of information. And I can assure my discretion.

The drop was made in Santa Monica approximately 11:26pm PDT 5/22/2010 to "carbonfibah" aka Daniel ******** from either *******, MA, or *******, MA. This is Ace's new contact.

The contents of your package have been compromised.

Carbonfibah has been in contact with Ace.

Carbonfibah will be enroute back to Massachussetts Sunday, should be arriving 7am.

I think he trusts me. I can get more detailed flight information if you would like to attempt to intercept.

ETA3: Also followed up with:
Quote:
The "Package" also contained what appears to be a hit list. I am on this list. I hope that my cooperation in this matter will remove my name from said list.
Oops! Forgot to protect my own neck!

Edited to remove Carb's "private" info.

I don't have "allegiance" to any one site, and I don't 'belong' to one.I simply like call of duty games.

I forget every website that received usb sticks; but I know weplaycod was one, along with other cod-related sites, and some game review sites. My point is that most were related to call of duty.

@scratch: UNF is rabid about this stuff and has been doing probably most of the solving. It would make sense that UNF members are on the list.

Also, when people here say "the game", my first thought is Black Ops. You know, long after this gknova stuff is over, or gets boring, there will always be COD:BO. You know, the GAME that's being marketed here.

I was really interested in gknova6 early on. But then I realized nothing is really being released about the game -- nothing new is being learned. Its just a wild goose chase. That's why now I don't give two shits about any more of it, and I can just wait for official treyarch releases, or 11.9.10 when the game comes out. If any relevant information starts to come up I'll get interested. Until then its just a waste of time IMO.

I agree that the 'marketing ploy' (I won't call it a game...maybe a puzzle more like) was released for anyone to 'play'. However, my point is that its geared to COD fans in that its meant to generate "buzz" for treyarch's next game.

I don't get the 'fun'/reasoning by ARG fans for two reasons:

1) Most all of these are made by large corporations simply to generate buzz for a product. IMO, arg fans are simply being 'used' by these companies.

2) It's not much of a mystery. Its a puzzle thats meant to be solved. If things get a little hard, the 'PM', or 'puppet master' (what a fitting name. what does that make you?) will hold you by the hand to make sure you find the next "clue", or give you a new one. In short: there is a predetermined path you are following, being guided along by unseen hands.

Let's just drop that subject and get along with the game.

When Carbon gets back let's see how things go; he's already said he's going to reveal things, but obviously there's a LOT to reveal so let's give him a chance.

Shizzire: Nice throwing Carbon under the bus there. Wink

Naw, I'm just playing a game. I have no beef with Carbon.

But it is funny that I'm on their list, and they asked me to help. I didn't connect those dots until after I sent the reply. D'oh!

You came here as a guest bashing unFiction and saying this game is for Call of Duty fans while being a registered user of Call of Duty Zombies. You may not have a specific allegiance to any one site, but you do have an allegiance to the Call of Duty communities that are trying to figure the puzzle out -- which, incidentally, is only Call of Duty Zombies.

Iced Earth wrote:

So we can agree the puzzle falls under Call of Duty jurisdiction. But since it's an ARG, which is what unFiction specializes in, it also falls under unFiction jurisdiction.

Iced Earth wrote:

So we've had a more active role than CoDz in pushing this game along but you don't think we should have a say in the direction it goes because we're not a Call of Duty community.

That doesn't make sense. This is supposed to be viral marketing, which is supposed to reach outside the hardcore, dedicated communities which are already going to buy and praise the game (CoDz). The target of viral marketing is everybody else (unFiction). You are doing a disservice to Treyarch by trying to keep us from participating.

I assert that since CoD:BO isn't out yet, GKNOVA6 is the only game we have right now.

puzzle: a game that tests your ingenuity

No, actually, it's geared to the opposite of CoD fans. The point of it is to get people who are not interested in CoD to want to play CoD. You don't market to people who are already going to buy the game and automatically love it.

Iced Earth wrote:

Yes, we are being "used." We're being advertised to. And we're having more fun participating in it than watching commercials.

Iced Earth wrote:

It makes us puppets. The puppet master is the puppet master because he controls everything about the game. Including how long people should wait for certain documents from a certain briefcase.

Yep. There is certainly a predetermined path I am following. It's kind of exactly like the video games that you cherish so much.

inb4 he tries to pull one of these

Agreed. Although I did kind of get that impression earlier in the game.

I've only been casually lurking this VMC. It was fun in small spurts. I missed a lot of the spurts due to not showing up on time, though so for me it was just mostly a timewaster. This thread alone managed 75 pages so far and there were only about 7 or 8 puzzles total. I'm sure the other forums involved in solves had similar sized threads. I am glad that my one "contribution" earned me some brownies and stroopwafels.

As for carbonfibah, I wouldn't personally withhold reveals or prizes like that, especially if they contained material to further the game. But I don't expect that someone not a part of the Chaotic Fiction community to fully understand that concept. Just like if I were to jump into a FPS community, I probably wouldn't immediately know all the unspoken "rules".

Allegiance: loyalty or devotion to some person, group, cause, or the like.

I don't have an "allegiance" to any person, forum or thing. Not even call of duty. If COD:BO sucks, I won't buy it.

The only reason I got upset was that some douchebag(s) were up in arms, seriously angry that carbon was thinking about releasing info a bit at a time. Not "aw shucks", but pitchfork & mob kind of angry. Seriously? Fucking CHILL OUT.

Scratch wrote:

Jurisdiction? LOLWUT? I didn't know we were in a buddy cop movie!

You don't have a say in the direction. That's how the puzzle works, remember? Its all been predetermined.

If by "a say" you mean that briefcase, well thats fine. People being huge dicks about it is uncalled for though. I forget who it was, but they were seriously OFFENDED that carbon was ruining THEIR GAME! Oh no! Not your game.

This kind of ad campaign is simply meant to generate "buzz" about a product. Label it however you want.

Everybody else ≠ unFiction. Everybody else = everybody else.

Why would treyarch target one hardcore community (UF) instead of another (COD community)? That doesn't make sense with what you said. Everyone else would literally mean...everyone else that doesn't know/like COD already. Not to mention I doubt anyone here is interested in buying the game.

My intention is not to stop anyone from participating if they really enjoy this type of thing. Please, continue, have fun, knock yourself out.

There's also Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: World at War. Or any other COD title.

I wish I could search my posts and see what I've actually posted. Since I'm a guest my username doesn't exist. And I don't wanna dig through 70+ pages, lol. Generally if I saw something helpful on codz that wasn't here I would post it.

But if you're talking about today, why I posted here, it was someone was a total ass to carbon. He's not my friend, we aren't "buddies". I just get mad when people are huge dicks to strangers, or for no good reason.

Wiseguy. Hopefully you understood what I meant and are only posting this for said wiseguy-ness.

Ehh I don't know. Who received USB sticks? UF, coz, a couple other cod groups, and game reviewing-type companies, right? I mean they didn't drop fliers from a B-17 over San Francisco did they (that would be interesting)? I'd say the target audience is pretty small: People who already like COD, people who like puzzles/ARGs, and some companies that review video games, who will probably mention it once in an online video on their website.

You know how many ARG type ad campaigns I've heard of besides this one? None.

Scratch wrote:

I don't watch commercials unless I'm interested in the product in the first place. Again but if you guys enjoy the mystery of it thats fine. From your perspective I would hate it that it lasts a little while, and then its simply 'over'.
