Well, to be honest, it wouldn't be the first time that happened...

My problem with this is from a marketing perspective: if you're going to create a game to promote a product, the important thing is that your audience know what the product is.

Everyone knew the Cloverfield promotion was for Cloverfield. Everyone knew the "Why So Serious?" campaign was for TDK. Everyone knows Flynn Lives is for Tron: Legacy. Each one of those promotions is sparking interest in the movie, and the promotions themselves succeeded in that it interested people to go see the movies. If the viral promotion for Cloverfield didn't exist, not as many people would have gone to see it or have bought the DVD.

This... we're still speculating. Right now it's not really promoting anything because it cannot be linked to a product.

And let's assume for a minute that Treyarch is involved... Looking at the content, can you honestly say that this is promoting COD7? Assuming that you didn't know Treyarch is involved... Will what you've seen so far on GKNova6 make you run out and buy COD7?

Quite honestly, what I've seen on GKNova6 made me interested in buying Singularity because it made me go to that site and think "Hey, this looks pretty cool."

If the intention of this project is to promote COD7, to spark interest in it, and to get people to buy it... it's not doing a good job of that.

Before this ARG I wouldn't have given Black Ops a second look. Other than the modern warfare series, Call of Duty has never really interested me. In general I don't think the game play or story are strong enough to constitute me spending over six hours of my life on them. If this ARG is for them game, it would make it seem a hell of a lot more complex than the usual Call of Duty games. Before I would have never even considered renting this game. Now, I'm considering attending a midnight release party. Effective marketing? I'd say yes.

Well this was rather easy and I'm pretty sure we know when to expect a response.

From the spectrogram of transmission 4:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

KARL = b
Karl Marx born May 5, 1818
NAPOLEON = d
Napoleon Bonaparte died May 5, 1821

By the way both, were on list for, 33rd degree masons.

AzureWolf, you are a rapist. Excellent work.

FYI: The variables in the Flash file are named "week_one" to "week_four", so you can safely assume that new content will consistently come on a weekly basis.

I don't think the 5/5 date means just another transmission; I think it's more than that.

I agree with you. it should be the 5th transmission, and I think if it comes on the 5th, which is appropriately timed with the rest of them...it's the last light on the TV right? if it's not a reveal, it's probably the final clue. so the 5th transmission on the 5th, 5+5....also on 5/5, but can we find a 10 other than 2010 that fits there? or will that be part of the next transmission?

I think the 10 will either simply represent the outcome, (e.g. (fifth transmission) + (5/5) = (everything coming together)) or 10 just simply is part of the date 5/5/10 and it just means that's the next transmission date...however important or unimportant the next transmission is.

can anybody tell me if it would be weird to have an ARG's final step on the first week of May when it's about something that's not happening till november?

What happened to the forums?!!?!?!?!?!? Was I the only one getting "Critical Error" for like the past 4 hours whenever I'd try to bring these forums up?

Perhaps Treyarch knows their community? If you're at all familiar with their zombie mode in World at War, the connection wouldn't be that difficult to make.

I don't think this has been intended to be a huge marketing campaign, rather one directly targeted at the fans of theirs past title, who became familiar with this type of thing in the Call of Duty world in 2008. I'm sure they knew that we would spread the word, but I don't think for a second that this was meant to be an obvious Call of Duty campaign to the outsider's eyes.

Feel free to watch/listen to the following video, courtesy of my friend carbonfibah @ the Call of Duty zombie forums. You'll see all radio transmissions in the last zombie map, Der Riese. Is this the Call of Duty that you know?

I really don't get the whole zombie angle. Have we seen anything in this ARG that even remotely points to zombies?? (Am I forgetting something?)

I understand that it was a quite popular game mode in the last Treyarch CoD game. But other than I don't get the connection.

Aside from the very similar radio transmissions, one of the most obvious connections would be uranium. The last zombie map, Der Riese, is named after the Nazi facility located in what is now Poland. This facility was used as a uranium mine, as well as a research facility for secret weapons.

I agree here as well....

This arg has been one hell of a ride but in the end if it's for Call of Duty I'll feel some slight disappointment but that'll be just about it. The people who put this arg together, IMO really put some thought behind it. They created a pretty enthralling "rabbit hole" so to speak. Although, at this point it hasn't really piqued my interest towards ANY game to be honest. It led me to take a quick look at a Singularity trailer and I thought....'meh'.

However, what I AM worried about now that I think of it, is if it's not about Call of Duty....WHOA! There seem to some people who may need 24 hour *hurt themselves* watch if this thing ends up not being about Call of Duty Sequel # [insert any number = or >7 here]. These guys are who I'm most worried for at this point lol.....

Well I'd love to play along on May 5th but I'm afraid I'll be grilling fajitas and drinking Mojitos for Cinco de Mayo that night. That is unless we get a mid-day update. Seems like the updates so far have been in the evenings, though.

Here's to hoping we get a major update and my drunk ass can come play along before any puzzles are solved.

ETA: Oh and I don't care one way or another which product this game is marketing so long as it's a fun and engaging experience. I won't likely run out and buy any game based on this viral, although it has happened once before (I'm looking at you Project Abraham).

Well, and to add a little trivia to this whole thing (this will play to the "Call of Duty Zombies" fan-base), May is actually Zombie Awareness month....

http://www.helium.com/items/1809078-how-to-promote-zombie-awareness-month-this-may

...so there ya go! Wink

Hi forum,
I've been lurking for a while now and have two things to say:

-Whatever happened about the the phone number someone got from a limo's number plate that was answered by a child? Never heard anything more about that

- AZURE I LOVE YOU

That's about it, great job on everything up to now Wink
I just hope this is all some awesome plot from Valve for L4D3. They could have asked Activision to make gknova6 and used the Treyarch Kennedy letter to throw us off the scent. Just thinking about it makes me want to buy L4D2...

Ridiculous as it sounds, it fits with the whole zombie thing people are talking about.

Uranium does not imply zombies. The greatest degree of mutation I can see from uranium is cancer.

I do think this ARG is about Call of Duty, but I don't think this ARG is hinting at zombies. If it were hinting at zombies, I think it would focus more on the aftermath of a nuclear explosion rather than the nuclear explosion itself.
