FYI- the link on Jake's Place for the forum doesn't work. But the one Jane listed works fine.

not much to grab onto here. it would seem the bogus message-id is a good candidate. that's definitely a bogus id; i just tested it and real gmail message ids are much longer. that one is 28 digits. i don't know what is represented by 28 hex digits; it's not a straight ascii string in any obvious way and 28 is the wrong size for most crypto or hashing algorithms i know. interesting lead in, though.

"unless, never, inside, tinkers, youth" is in the source code of http://www.tetrarchiclechwes.net/

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Taking the first letter from each word and adding it to the url gets us to http://www.tetrarchiclechwes.net/unity.html where hidden text reads "we fear their motives "
Maybe there's more to find?

I'm in combat with my laptop (it took me 15 minutes just to write this post...Sheesh!), so I doubt that I'll be able to follow any game too closely. If anyone cares to share the above on the kellenquest forums , please do.

Wanting to help...
not figuring out how. . .

I am a member of the KellenQuest forum, but so far I feel frustrated. I don't really have skills at figuring out codes and such, as yet, but the website seems to have little else to do but that.
Jake has been posting regularly at Twitter, and there are big game story things happening, with death, B&E, and such, which I feel somewhat interested in, but I don't see what I can do about all that. It seemed obvious to me that when Jake went abroad that stuff would happen in his absence, and Loren Behold, it happened. However, I don't feel much emotional attachment to anyone in the story so far, so my interest is limited.

I feel a lot more sympathy for the storytellers here. It seems to me that they are working hard at this, but there's something preventing this from really flowing at this point, and it appears that few are getting much involved, which is a real pity. I would like to suggest ways to get more ARGers involved, but don't feel sure what should be done. . .but anyway. . .
1. I realize that they may be committed to a calendar or timeline, but I feel it's premature to have all these big events happening already, before people are really engaged.
2. I think that we need to get more personal with the characters first, or we won't much care that Richard is missing, etc. We haven't seen anyone, and I must stay my personal opinion is that the videos I've seen so far don't help at all to engage me. I know Jake is saying that Ace cuted it up and that he's personally not in love with the cutey clipart graphics, etc, but really it doesn't grab me a bit.
As someone with a project of my own in the works, I hate to see this hard work go unrewarded! It may well be that since the events are already in the public eye--but the public eye is not paying attention--it may be hard to hit 'undo,' but can the pacing be stretched out in some way as we focus for a while, maybe, on the emotions of Jake and Ace, or memories of why Jake is fond of Richard, or something, and show them getting worked up and antsy, before the story leaps forward again?
I don't know who the heck I'm writing to, but if any people involved with the game see this, please accept my assurance that I am not trying to diss the game or hating. I want to see this succeed!! I want to get involved! I want to obsess over this story.
Basically, I think the human element is missing. It seems a bit remote to me. If you would like my participation in any way, I'd love to get involved on either side of the curtain. . .
I am NOT an expert or something, not yet at least, but I have my impressions as a player.
If some really attention-grabbing thing that people could be fascinated with, or respond emotionally to, I think the game would get a lot of notice and would take off, I think it really has potential. I don't want to tell anyone how to run their game, so if my comments are unwelcome, please feel free to disregard all this--but if it is helpful at all, I'll be so pleased.
Thanks for the hard work, Jake and all, and I hope you get a huge following!

KQ gets het up
The human element! Here it cometh!!

OK, I'm trying to get more immersed in the game and I have a bunch of observations; not sure if anyone is paying attention yet, but this game is getting better, IMHO.

One thing I am not sure of: do the PMs prefer to keep this game in their own forum, or do they welcome a UF one too, or what? I am not sure but since I have OOG stuff to say I took it here.

I've had a strong 'crickets chirping' feeling whenever I've visited the forum. I almost believe (and still strongly suspect) that to get this rolling, the PMs are creating fake players who are solving the initial puzzles, instead of real ones; pardon me if that hunch is false!

After my last post last month--the most recent one in this thread!--I wrote to Jake at his gmail account and expressed similar ideas, in a TINAG way.
His response was warm.
Quote:
I do very much appreciate your comments - no offense taken at all. I hadn't really thought anyone would be all that interested in family history about Richard. At times he was kind of like the nutty Uncle, and after my parents moved out of the area while I was in college he became more like the surrogate father. I think it would be fitting to talk a bit about him. When I get a few minutes to sit down and think about the past I'll write up a bit about Richard and how I remember him.

As for the Lechwe and Watchers sites...my impression is that these two groups are linked somehow. Maybe two groups within the same organization? Not at all clear. It doesn't seem like they are part of the company funding Richard since they were warning him about them.

As for his device - yes, I guess a bit like Star Trek but he said it can only transfer energy. I guess if you could figure out how to turn someone into energy and then back again you could send them this way.

More later - gotta get back to work.

oh - one last thought. Some of the messages may be warnings for people that are poking. We'll never know all that is on those sites. On the other hand, there isn't a site around that can't be hacked by somebody somewhere so maybe some of the pages are meant to not be found (like the status updates we found on the Lechwes site) and some might just be a "turn back!" kind of message. Just a thought.

thanks!

So there's a bit of human touch for us.

After that, a bunch of new stuff that furthers that element. Most of that, and more comments, are at Jake's Twitter Account: http://twitter.com/jkwltrs

To wit:
1. A very nice video in which Jake takes his video phone out to "Target 3," which was Richard's last position (now missing and assumed dead IS); a daytimer and a cellphone were under the platform. Jake was spooked out and vowed to return when it wasn't raining.
2. A song by "Jake and the Javacats"--and it's good!
3. A scan of a letter, the last by Richard and intended for Jake only if "something happens".

This last is very discussionworthy material.

However, let me first comment that the voice of "Jake" in the YouTube vids does not sound like a young man's voice. Maybe I'll leave it there for now.

OK, in short, the letter indicates:
a. This is for if something happens to Richard
b. Jake is responsible for acting on his behalf now
c. Jake will get a series of messages in code from *somebody* in the coming weeks: this will reveal the location of the energy transferral prototype and also Richard's notes. Jake must then decide what to do with them.
d. Richard has been worried and is not sure if the Siyx people or the warners are 'bad guys'.
e. There are strong suggestions that his device can be used to signal those who are not 'nearby'--in other words, alien planets and outer space, but not local Earthlings. Subtle as a brickbat.
f. ! Jake is excellent at solving puzzles and codes and loves to do this.
g. Richard has considered Jake "the son I never had" and so big love feeling and warm fuzzies at the end. Really it was touching.

In even shorter:
Jake and Richard were closer than he has let on. The device is a SETI related SF item and the conflict is about who welcomes vs. who dreads aliens. The puzzle now is in codes; after the stuff is found, an Executive Decision must be made by Jake.

The big thing that struck me as surprising (the aliens thing was not assumed, but not a shocker either; rather a letdown in fact!) was that Richard states how Jake is a puzzle freak. Now the first thing I knew about Jake from http://www.kellenquest.com/ is that Jake is HOPELESS with puzzles.

3 ideas:
1. Jake was lying.
2. Richard is sorely mistaken.
2b. Jake used to like some sort of puzzles as a kid but has quit.
3. This statement is not sincere, but is part of a code or dissemblance within the letter's text. I've done much the same myself.

So now I'll go back and do some close reading of the letter. http://s862.photobucket.com/albums/ab183/jkwltrs/Richards%20last%20letter/

The puzzle/code stuff so far on the lechwes and thewatcherscircle (solve sounds contrived) has been opaque to me, but others are more attuned to that stuff; I can make these up but can't go the other way without getting cheesed off and giving up.

OK, checking the Twitter account, I found a number of other things. I didn't much like the "dramatization" video as it seems heavyhanded and 'advertizey' but maybe it could work. Sounds like they really want some visibility. I don't mind doing this and will try to get the word out in my limited way...favoriting the vids, posting at my blog, and such.

Actually, the friendliness of Jake is in a way stymieing the game as I talk with him in private ways, like email and PMS, and the forum etc. takes no notice. I like that but it may not help their goal of growing the player base...

I feel this game could really be cool and I want to help these guys out. I think this is just the tip of the iceberg.
BTW, now there are mugshots of Richard and a reiteration of Jake's, in the 'advertizey' video.

Not sure what to make of this.

I solved a few, but only contributed the Daggers one. I'm watching, just not really doing much right now - there hasn't been any real turn in the story that needs working on.

Ooh, the daggers one!

Hello, Aiobhan!
The daggers froze up my brain. I had to go away from it after watching them scoot around. Must be clever, but it's got me stopped. I will try again after a good sleep. Have not given up!

 A hint?!
I squeed!

That was a bit of a thrill. However, I should EARN this; I will give it the old college try first before I ask for anything. Thank you, much!! Razz

Richard + Jake backstory supplied!
Dat's better.

OK, the blog has grown some heart. http://www.jakewalters.me/blog/remembering-richard/
I have grown too busy to get much of my attention into this game, but like the developments. Seems the forum is getting more active, too...but I cannot stand only gaming in character; it's too stuffy so I want to get back here to exhale.

Err--the voice actors need a bit of work. Their character voices keep slipping.

The Bysalix vid above was intolerably dull. . .but I guess I should try to get through the textual technobabble and see if there's any real content useful to players. I assume there must be SOMETHING in it.

Jake and Puzzles--explained.

Quote:
The big thing that struck me as surprising (the aliens thing was not assumed, but not a shocker either; rather a letdown in fact!) was that Richard states how Jake is a puzzle freak. Now the first thing I knew about Jake from http://www.kellenquest.com/ is that Jake is HOPELESS with puzzles.

In the blog post I linked to above, BTW, Jake explains this discrepancy: Kellen always assumed that Jake loved puzzles, and Jake didn't have the heart to disappoint him. Kind of like a combination of my 2 and 2b.
Just for the record.
