Well, we can find a backstory on the guy who made the blog. He heads a PSP-modding team that focuses on creating new custom firmware.

This team hasn't been successful at all.

Furthermore, I think he's pretty inexperienced because he (apparently) wants us to crack an MD5 hash. What he (probably) doesn't know is that hashes are one-way and are therefore extremely more impossible to crack than his other means of encryption, which are simple and easy.

Like actually impossible. The MD5 he presented us is nearly impossible to crack.

hmm

he seems fairly normal on the forums...maybe something happened

It's hard to tell if the PSP forum is in game or not. It seems like it isn't... but yesterday promethius posted
Quote:
work

can.t see

which fits nicely with the blind theme and the oddly placed punctuation. It might be worth exploring further.

Also, don't know if it matters, but the correct spelling is actually promethEus, with an E instead of an I (so the 1 should be a 3). But that could just be nitpicky.

ETA: Found this while searching Team SOL and PSP stuff.

Team SOL was a phony "team"

A bunch of noobs "trying" to start a team but they had no hacking experience

its like a boy wanting to do a heart transplant....

Team SOL's thread got closed on the forum they started on and they were never heard from again.....

I am guessing they wanted to make some kind of ARG based around psp cfw, but it didn't go as planned... hence the hiatus. So now maybe they've got a new plan and that's why they're back posting again? This, with the MD5 thing... I feel like this probably the PM's first arg.

I dunno, I'm in for whatever happens.

ETA2: I would also try destegging that lens image. I would, but I'm on a Mac.

while googling team SOL i found

"they made a post on pspiso...heres what it said

'Hello, I am a part of a new CFW team called team SOL. We are a new team to the CFW scene, and only have 6 members including me. Only one or two of our members are experienced.

We are currently looking for enough people, who have experience, or are willing to learn. We have contacted team GEN(maxigen), and I am trying to get in contact with Yoshiro.

We will start work when we have 10 people, and 5 experienced ones.

While we may not by too experienced, we are determined.

PM me, and ask for our IRC channel

-Team SOL' "

i also saw that prometheus posted on HMVG.net, and Hack forums, and GBATemp

also found a myspace but thats OOG(hasnt logged in in years)

his posts are all strangely normal, and this supports my theory that something happened durring the "hiatus"

last coherent blog post was on
THURSDAY, MARCH 25, 2010

so something must have happened to him between then and now

I rather think it's evident that our PM is a script kiddie who thought he could collaborate with a group of more experienced individuals to find a way to create new custom firmware for the PSP.

Now I think since that failed, he's moved onto PMing his first ARG. The connection to his former omg1337haxor life was simply overlooked.

If you look into our PM, it becomes apparent that his identity is far too complex to be conjured in a moment for the purposes of this game. For instance:

There's our PM. Look at this delightful topic he posted six years ago:

Quote:
hey everyone, im new here and im from shaker middle school in ohio
i just have a quick quesion
does anyone who goes to nationals actually design and build their own robots, or do they all hire engineers to do it for them? not to insult anyone, i was just wondering.

Even six years later, the resemblance is unmistakable.

But anyway, I can't say I'm particularly interested in following this ARG anymore. I would much rather give the GKNOVA6 my full and undivided dedication.
