Trustiva, it's pretty obvious that the IP address was never going to be correct. Perhaps you just misinterpreted what I wrote that made you think that. Thanks for the definition of this "game," though. Better than people staring at a screen and mindlessly twiddling their thumbs.

As for Xeno Lambrose, again, you make yourself look immature. There's no need to attempt to impress any of your buddies here. Let's see what you did wrong:

1) You assumed that I thought myself to be correct. There you go. You assumed.
2) I did not make this conclusion up myself, obviously, but you assumed that I did. Didn't even bother to think that some anonymous poster traveled over to Youtube, copied and pasted a comment from there, and posted it here just to see what you guys had to say since you're the "experts." Again, you assumed.
3) You made a childish attempt at sarcasm to try and "get to me" or whatever desired effect you so desperately hoped for. Bullying online is becoming a problem these days. Are you a contributor to this virtual virus?
4) Ultimately, you assumed (are we seeing a pattern here?).

Guest, you rascal, you! You were just funnin' us, I see--all of this time you knew what Super 8 is!

Never heard the JSA being referred to as Super 8, or "the" Super 8.

Well, Moderators, time to shut down the forum and call it a night! The man of the hour, or is it Hour-Man, has ruined it for all of us...boo-hoo.

Just curious, which incarnation of the JSA do you suppose will come bounding out of that railroad car, Golden, Silver, or current? Can you at least tell us that, Mr. Terrific, since you've effectively spoiled the movie for us?

Hello Guest.

This is very much a game. It is called an "Alternate Reality Game", ARG. This is as much a game as role playing is a game or chess. You have to know the rules and play by it. The rules in here are mostly: you have to believe in it. When it tells you 'IP not recognized' then this is not true in itself. They just display you (and everyone else clicking on that chat icon) an image that says 'IP not recognized'. It's not really an interactive site you are seeing, but more like a slide show that pops up certain slides or images when you click on them. These slides or graphics give you new information that you have to combine with other information you already gathered. There will never be anyone with the correct IP as it's not actually checking anyone's IP. That's the 'game' part.

Currently this game is rather standing still, not happening much and nothing to be discovered. So everything you might find out has already been discovered. But maybe tomorrow there will be new stuff.

"SUPER 8" stands for The "Justice Society of America," or JSA .

It was the first inter-company superhero title as well as the first team-up title.

1. Hawkman
2. Flash
3. Green Lantern
4. Atom
5. Sandman
6. Spectre
7. Hour-Man
8. Doctor Fate

There's my input. Now I'm done.

Not to get into a religious debacle here, but even if there is a God, he has no influence in this, anyway. "Guys" is a general statement and doesn't have to mean "males," per say. I'm not one to put much information about myself online, forums included, but speculation as to my sex is welcome. As for the 'emoticons,' I don't care all that much to be perfectly blunt about it.

[You know, Guest, I was confused at first--and most of the time, still am--but I found this web site, learned what an ARG is, took the time to read all of the pages dealing with Super 8--at that time, there wasn't the convenience of the "Game Summary--and joined in on the game!]

I don't have the time to dig as deep as you guys are. There are a lot of things I don't have time for, even at my age. I posted a question and expected something a little more straightforward, but I'll just forget about this until the movie comes out. No need to spoil anything more for myself (I'll just ignore the "Super 8" trailers in the future).

Lots of people contribute to forums around the world, I'm sure. As for my language, your hasty generalization (with a splash of the 'slippery slope' fallacy) makes me ponder as to your maturity level and your total lack of feelings for others. That, however, is just my opinion

Maybe I'm not a software guy, who knows...[I'm not a software guy either, but it has been mentally stimulating following the reasoning of others much more intelligent than I am, and I've learned a lot, maybe even contributed to the collective think tank, but it just appears to me that you don't have the patience to do the research found on this forum that will enable you to find some gratification in the game, and since you stated that you've already read the "Game Summary," for any one of us to take the time to explain to you how we got from point A to point B would be a waste of each others' time--much like if you randomly read four or five pages throughout a classic novel such as "To Kill a Mockingbird" and then say to someone who had read the entire novel, "explain the ending to me, I don't get it."]

There are multiple ways in which to engage myself mentally, this being one of them. Again, I simply do not have the time to think about this as much as those on here. If I could, I would. I wish for a lot of things, but they won't come merely because I want them to. Ironically, as I stare at my copy of Lee's greatest achievement...

This obviously is just not your type of "game," but there's alway solitaire (and it's easy to cheat at that!).]

Not quite a "game" at all, though. More like a scavenger hunt. Better yet, it's a riddle in which the creator won't reveal the answer even after you think you've found it.

Later, "guys."

I found the chat message thing on the site by clicking on the bottom left arrow and typed in "toadfish112." My IP address wasn't "recognized" and it went into "read-only mode" which made me assume there was audio, but I'm not sure. The other icons only made some beeping noise when I clicked on them.

After that I hit "Y" 3 times, clicked on whatever button, and waited for 14 files to open or something. It scrolled down to a screen that said "Execute - .EXEC Commit To Tape Drive, etc" and the only thing that worked was ".REENTER." I hit "Y" again after MOUNT continue? and I've been stuck on "DEVICE?" ever since.

It seems as though some of the stuff relating to this whole scheme has expired, but how the hell do you guys figure this shit out? Maybe I'm not a software guy, who knows...

What is all this? I opened some chat thing, but it said "IP address not recognized." The only thing I can go to now is the green font asking for a device. I also heard stuff relating to newspaper clippings, but all I've done is just hit "Y" a bunch of times and ".REENTER" once.

First time doing one of these types of things (pre-movie internet stuff).

Welcome, I believe you should read the Game Summary (its on the top of the inicial page of the Super 8 forum) there you will find answers to some (perhaps all) of your questions. Its a very good place to start, its a little long Laughing but the game is on the tracks for a while now.

Haha, thanks for the guidance. After watching Cloverfield I wanted to get a little more background info on the monster, but the most I could dig up was something pertaining to a slushie drink. Some weird sh*t... Anyway, thanks for that because I'm genuinely curious about this movie now.

Ninelives;

Welcome; and yes regarding "it" being a water based creature seems iffy—the trailer states, "IN 1979, THE U.S. AIR FORCE CLOSED A SECTION OF AREA 51; "ALL MATERIALS WERE TO BE TRANSPORTED TO A SECURE FACILITY IN OHIO." To support a water-based creature in the barren climes of the Nevada nuclear test range seems highly unlikely, as does fitting a train to transport such "material." Under the right conditions—perhaps the downed electric pole with live wires striking the train car—provided, or removed restrictions hampering, the "it" with the ability to rotate a security latch (?) on the outside (though there could have been an interior element to it) and the strength to do some serious damage to the door and pop the rivets off the side.

And as regards "the truck [that] veered onto the railroad tracks head on," I understand what you mean but it just struck me as rather funny if the truck had "veered onto the tracks" going backwards.

Whether the driver intended on making contact with the engine of a freight train up close and personal, or was controlled in some manner to do so, is yet to be seen, but stick around; there'll be much more fun before this is all over, and if you haven't reviewed the "Game Summary" sticky, it's a good place to get up to speed.

Appreciate your comments.

Many are suggesting themes of a water monster and so on. For those who have read the secret message found on the printer at "Scariestthingieversaw" they mention a foghorn, often used at sea. Also a possible reference to Ray Bradbury's "Fog Horn" a story about a sea monster. Apparently there was a secret image in Cloverfield from the movie "Fog Horn" based on the story by the same name. It all points to a sea monster of some sort. In my personal opinion from the trailer the crate is both small and on land, therefore making me doubt the existence of a sea monster. One things I have not seen discussed it any forums is the fact that the truck veered onto the railroad tracks head on. I think we can all agree that whatever is being contained is responsible for the truck. Just linking a few things people have discussed. Feedback or corrections are definitely wanted
