Well, just in case, it's now available for download here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F5JEROLD

As a note: after seeing the trailer, I'd like to know how he convinced the film crew that this was "the remake of a teen sex comedy." :3

Could D. Morris (from scariestthing...) be Dan Morris?

Quote:
Dan Morris is a retired Air Force career Master Sergeant who was involved in the extraterrestrial projects for many years. After leaving the Air Force, he was recruited into the super-secret National Reconnaissance Organization, or NRO, during which time he worked specifically on extraterrestrial-connected operations. He had a cosmic top-secret clearance (38 levels above top secret) which, he states, no U.S. president, to his knowledge, has ever held. In his testimony, he talks of assassinations committed by the NSA; he tells how our military deliberately caused the 1947 ET craft crashes near Roswell, and captured one of the ETs, which they kept at Los Alamos for 3 years, until he died. He talks about the intelligence teams that were charged with intimidating, discrediting, and even eliminating witnesses to ET/UFO events. He talks about Germany's re-engineering of UFOs, even prior to WWII. He talks about our current energy crisis — and the fact that we haven't needed fossil fuels since the 1940s, when free energy technologies were developed — but have been kept from humanity. This is the real reason for the secrecy of the ET/UFO subject. "What the people in power right now don't want us to know is that this free energy is available to everybody." In conclusion, he warns against the weaponization of space and the shooting down of ET craft — this could force them to retaliate, and that would be our destruction.

Just a thought... no actual connection to the ARG, but it is interesting.

You, Sir Kosmopol, are a vision of clarity.

Here is a description of that trailer in case it gets yoinked [Link]

Edited to add the links

I hope not. If Cloverfield is only an A51 reject, I'd be supremely disappointed.

Before the truck hits the train you can hear someone say "Oh My God" just like in the Cloverfield movie. I'm not saying they are connected but hearing that made me think of the other movie.

@Mikeyj
Done, it's an attachment now.

And about your questions:

Quote:
1. Super 8 is not Cloverfield 2, it's another film (though looks a bit creature featurey), correct? (I ask to be sure and as then it might be good to edit the subheading of this thread)

Yes, I suppose, it hasn't to do with Cloverfield (even if you cannot trust JJ about such things, since he said once, Slusho.jp hasn't anything to do with Cloverfield. I'd tag the thread (or pater: threads, as I hope) just as Super8, since it's the codename for the movie we know now (even if the movie may have different title in the future)

Quote:
2. What is the connection to 500 Rads?

Till now I cannot see these connections. Actually, there is nothing official about 500 Rads, beside of some mentions by JJ Abrams or somebody from his crew. All the online contents to 500 Rads are - as far as I can see it - anything but fan fiction/gamejack/OOG.

3. What sites seem to be involved so far?

The official promotion website http://www.super8-movie.com/
The viral website: http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/

I hope more websites to come Smile

@Nighthawk

Nice found about Morris! I think, it may be just a hommage to him, like the movie is hommage to Spielberg.

Boy, I do something stupid... like SLEEP... and this comes up. Razz

I can confirm that the counter ticks up every 5 seconds exactly.

And, I gotta say, the PDP-11 with the 1977 copyright was a very nice touch.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDP-11

Quote:
The PDP-11 family of computers were used for many purposes. It was used as a 'normal' computer but also often as system to control complex systems like traffic-light systems, medical systems or for network-management. An example of the use of PDP-11's was the management of the packet switched network Datanet 1. In the 1980s, the UK's Air Traffic Radar processing was conducted on a pdp 11/34 system known as PRDS - Processed Radar Display System at RAF West Drayton.

PDP-11s are a DEC product, which was in Maynard, Massachusetts.

There is a ROBERT Morris, who apparently designed the early encryption systems ("crypt()" and DES) in UNIX and on PDP-11 processors.

Hey Kosmopol, would you be able to upload that pic as an attachment rather than using the image tags? It prevents the stretchimification of the forum as pics are automatically resized (though you can still view the original).

I'm addled after staying up for election results, but losing track of what things are and where they are from in Super 8, so here are my questions:

1. Super 8 is not Cloverfield 2, it's another film (though looks a bit creature featurey), correct? (I ask to be sure and as then it might be good to edit the subheading of this thread)

2. What is the connection to 500 Rads?

Well, a reverse IP trace confirms that this site is hosted on the same server as all of the other Paramount Picture websites, including the old Cloverfield sites. So this is definitely put on by them.

You can always try a trace like that through this site: http://www.my-ip-neighbors.com

I noticed a name towards the top..."D. Morris". Other than that, not much to glean from the info given.

BTW, a hearty thank you to JJ for timing this just as Marble Hornets went on break. He's so considerate! Laughing

EDIT: I also couldn't find anything on a DAC based out of Acton, MA. The closest is a DAC Group based out of Wilmington that's listed as a Medical Supply Store. Although, if memory serves...Acton was used in an episode of Fringe...I can't remember which one.

OK, at Cloverfield they used GoDaddy, they also hid all the registration data.

Great job with decoding and trying to decode!

Btw, just in case you want to see the whole program script, I did it for you (there was already a screenshot before, but here is the full script).

whois from the site: http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com shows that the domain is registered to www.markmonitor.com

Not *to* markmonitor.com. MarkMonitor.com is merely the registrar that the real owner bought the domain from. When you do a whois via a command line tool or a normal ol' webpage, you'll often only get the results of the registrar. But almost always, the registrar will have their own WHOIS server which, in MarkMonitor.com's case is at their website. Unfortunately, a whois lookup of the domain there shows it's protected (i.e., traditionally that means it's owned by the corporate entity putting the game on and not by a character).
