Boy, I do something stupid... like SLEEP... and this comes up. Razz

I can confirm that the counter ticks up every 5 seconds exactly.

And, I gotta say, the PDP-11 with the 1977 copyright was a very nice touch.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDP-11

Quote:
The PDP-11 family of computers were used for many purposes. It was used as a 'normal' computer but also often as system to control complex systems like traffic-light systems, medical systems or for network-management. An example of the use of PDP-11's was the management of the packet switched network Datanet 1. In the 1980s, the UK's Air Traffic Radar processing was conducted on a pdp 11/34 system known as PRDS - Processed Radar Display System at RAF West Drayton.

PDP-11s are a DEC product, which was in Maynard, Massachusetts.

There is a ROBERT Morris, who apparently designed the early encryption systems ("crypt()" and DES) in UNIX and on PDP-11 processors.

@Mikeyj
Done, it's an attachment now.

And about your questions:

Quote:
1. Super 8 is not Cloverfield 2, it's another film (though looks a bit creature featurey), correct? (I ask to be sure and as then it might be good to edit the subheading of this thread)

Yes, I suppose, it hasn't to do with Cloverfield (even if you cannot trust JJ about such things, since he said once, Slusho.jp hasn't anything to do with Cloverfield. I'd tag the thread (or pater: threads, as I hope) just as Super8, since it's the codename for the movie we know now (even if the movie may have different title in the future)

Quote:
2. What is the connection to 500 Rads?

Till now I cannot see these connections. Actually, there is nothing official about 500 Rads, beside of some mentions by JJ Abrams or somebody from his crew. All the online contents to 500 Rads are - as far as I can see it - anything but fan fiction/gamejack/OOG.

Quote:
3. What sites seem to be involved so far?

The official promotion website http://www.super8-movie.com/
The viral website: http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/

I hope more websites to come Smile

@Nighthawk

Nice found about Morris! I think, it may be just a hommage to him, like the movie is hommage to Spielberg.

Before the truck hits the train you can hear someone say "Oh My God" just like in the Cloverfield movie. I'm not saying they are connected but hearing that made me think of the other movie.

They mention Area 51 in the trailer...so should we be expecting some sort of alien life form? How about a Cloverfield prequel?

I hope not. If Cloverfield is only an A51 reject, I'd be supremely disappointed.

Could D. Morris (from scariestthing...) be Dan Morris?

Quote:
Dan Morris is a retired Air Force career Master Sergeant who was involved in the extraterrestrial projects for many years. After leaving the Air Force, he was recruited into the super-secret National Reconnaissance Organization, or NRO, during which time he worked specifically on extraterrestrial-connected operations. He had a cosmic top-secret clearance (38 levels above top secret) which, he states, no U.S. president, to his knowledge, has ever held. In his testimony, he talks of assassinations committed by the NSA; he tells how our military deliberately caused the 1947 ET craft crashes near Roswell, and captured one of the ETs, which they kept at Los Alamos for 3 years, until he died. He talks about the intelligence teams that were charged with intimidating, discrediting, and even eliminating witnesses to ET/UFO events. He talks about Germany's re-engineering of UFOs, even prior to WWII. He talks about our current energy crisis — and the fact that we haven't needed fossil fuels since the 1940s, when free energy technologies were developed — but have been kept from humanity. This is the real reason for the secrecy of the ET/UFO subject. "What the people in power right now don't want us to know is that this free energy is available to everybody." In conclusion, he warns against the weaponization of space and the shooting down of ET craft — this could force them to retaliate, and that would be our destruction.

Just a thought... no actual connection to the ARG, but it is interesting.

Well, just in case, it's now available for download here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F5JEROLD

As a note: after seeing the trailer, I'd like to know how he convinced the film crew that this was "the remake of a teen sex comedy." :3

Uh... Spielberg's executive producer... So I wouldn't quite consider it a "homage". Smile

And, @Cloverfieldnews: Yeah, Dan Morris does sound like a better fit. I admit I didn't look far. Razz

Okay, if I go in and get to the screen and hit all of the Y to get to the "Accessing FIle List..." part...I then hit the box in the top right of the remote view 2.7 and it kind of resets, but when it does, there is now a print box that has popped up...I click print and it wants to print to default, but then when I choose my network printer it doesn't print anything...

Can anyone else get this to work?

I went to hit Ctrl-T to open a new tab while looking at the console on scariestthingieversaw and it didn't work. So the site is intercepting ctrl commands, so maybe we have to do Ctrl-E to execute the files after they download?

You can always use "Print to file" option. Or download a PDF "printer" like PrimoPDF that prints the source directly to a pdf file. (Great for saving internet receipts straight to the computer, btw).

I was able to open a new tab (using IE).

Thanks Yiddleja...I finally got it to print..

what does it mean though...do you suppose there is some site where someone is posting info publicly about the Area 51 thingy and someone else is telling them to stop? If so...should we be looking for a website?
