[SUCCESS?] Maintenance Window 2010-07-08
From 18:00 PDT to 22:00 PDT

Tonight we will begin the process of retiring the aging Gibson web server with two fresh young faces named Stewart and McHugh. The first step will be migration of the forums to Stewart. There may be small disruptions in service tonight during the process, after which we will flip the switch on the DNS to point to the new server.

Some users may experience minor disruptions while the DNS propagates, notably with file attachments failing to display if they were uploaded for example to Gibson but the user is attempting to view them on Stewart. We will try to minimize this by syncing files between the servers so if you have trouble viewing an attachment, wait a few minutes and refresh to see if it appears. If problems persist for some time, feel free to bring them to our attention by replying to this thread.

The next step, to come at a later date, will be to offload the file attachments and image serving from Stewart to McHugh. We hope this will prevent future migrations from presenting the above problem as well as speed up the overall delivery of forums pages to users.

ETA: Work is progressing apace. DNS has been switched but may take up to 24-48 to propagate to your location. If you experience problems, please try to include information in your reports about which server you are connecting to, Gibson (72.51.34.146) or Stewart (72.51.35.227). Thanks Smile

ETA: It seems DNS has propagated for most everyone. No problems reported as yet = hoorays!
