Yeah I was discussing that with someone in IRC the other day.
I imagine that since DEC is a real company, they had to change it to DAC of Aston, Mass for possible intellectual property purposes. Oddly, though the PDP-11 name was not changed. I'm sure there is some legal reason why they could say PDP-11 and TU56 DECTape but not DEC.

Little tidbit of info i didn't see mentioned here.
If you press the print button on the remote view 2.7 window a prompt will pop up hidden behind the DOS like window. You can drag this window out of the way and then you will see the prompt asking you if you would like to print.
You will get the following message printed if you click OK.

So now the question is, was there an event in 1979 that resurfaced in 2002ish that would relate to the general information we have gathered so far? Something that would have gotten at least some main stream media attention. This may be a big clue or it may be something that I am just reading too far into.

Right Thread I hope... Hey all-
First off if this is NOT the correct thread to post this stuff in I apologize, and please feel free to move to the proper location.
I've been playing around with the page source information for the official sites found some stuff that if not useful is at least curious:
http://www.scariestthingieversaw.com/
First of all I know its been mentioned, but the "PDP-11" simulator is NOT an actual simulator (as some have suggested) it is in fact a flash application. The interesting piece is the actual title of the flash .... "deqna.swf "
When Viewing the page with Chrome there is this interesting comment at the top of the page...
Code:
*props* to Chrome for not providing a way to reference the current extensions resources from CSS.
Hard coding the ID does not work because the ID is different when packaged. Props Chrome, Props!!! */
When viewing with Internet Explorer or some other browser that message is not displayed.
Also in the HTML file (when viewing with Chrome) there are these interesting lines of code:
Code:
div.afterthedeadline-button
div.afterthedeadline-button.afterthedeadline-focus, div.afterthedeadline-button.afterthedeadline-hover, div.afterthedeadline-button:hover
div.afterthedeadline-button.afterthedeadline-done
Each are followed by what appears to be encrypted information
From the javaScript file (titled dl11.js)
Code:
function callDomLoadFunctions() {
if (isDomLoaded) { return; }
try { // test if we can really add/remove elements to/from the DOM; we don't want to fire it too early
var t = doc.getElementsByTagName("body")[0].appendChild(createElement("span"));
t.parentNode.removeChild(t);
}
Code:
if (hasPlayerVersion(regObjArr[i].swfVersion) && !(ua.wk && ua.wk <312>= published SWF version: Houston, we have a match!
Apparently one of the coders had a sense of humor... Or was tired of coding contingencies for various versions of flash/browsers...
Not sure if there really is anything interesting in there... but I thought I would throw it out see if anybody else noticed anything ....
[EDIT]Think this is a better place - split and merged - MikeyJ

Now, now, I much prefer that sign with the zombie reference.
Besides, trout just means someone beat you to it.

By my latest calculations, we may be finished by 1pm (my time/Central) tomorrow. Hey, we may get lucky and the site may even still be up at that time.
It's killing me btw that uF keeps choosing a Thursday to do it's update since an update to Flynn Lives is expected tomorrow too (If not GKNova6 as well). Seriously, can't we do this business on a Monday? Nothing big ever seems to happen on Mondays.
