Funny tidbit, I doubt it means anything but when you look at the ad for Rocket Poppeteers it looks like an alien is hiding just to the left of the helmet Captain "Coop" Cooper is holding. Might be me just projecting but it looks like it to me.

This is related. http://www.dushenko.ru/news/121636/

Quote:
After the assassination of John F. Kennedy, his widow Jacqueline wrote to Khrushchev: "He did not once quoted in his speeches, your words:" In a future war, the survivors will envy the dead.

The Russian is
Quote:
"После убийства "жона Кеннеди его вдова Жаклин писала Хрущеву: «Он не раз цитировал в своих речах 'аши слова: “' будущей войне оставшиеся в живых будут завидовать мертвым”

I wonder if blocking out the quote from Khrushchev has anything to do with this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china/7720461/USSR-planned-nuclear-attack-on-China-in-1969.html

USSR Planned Nuclear Attack on China. (Happened in 1969)

I don't speak Russian, so I can't search for the translated quote very well.

Babelfish gives this "оставшийся в живых позавидовали бы умершим" which im sure is not correct.

edit: The timeline doesn't work, though. If the JFK speech was 1963 and the row between Russia and China was in 1969...

Actually “Оставшиеся в живых позавидуют умершим”, but nothig find this phrase

Thanks for that. I didn't think it would be relevant. There was a Sino-Russian Summit before Kennedy's speech sometime in 1963 where the Krushchev quote may have originated, but I doubt it's relevant either.

Hey guys,

bit of a noob here, but followed along with Cloverfield, and caught this trailer online yesterday so thought I'd drop something in.

After playing around on the Scariest website, one of the first lines that appears on start up of the sim is starts.com - if you head over to this website, it's hosted by godaddy.com which I know popped up quite a bit in the Clover viral. Currently just has a list of recent world news, but could it be connected somehow?

Thanks

Just wanted to insert a quick couple of things to avoid further confusion:

1) STARTS.COM is not a website, it's a command file. Kind of similar to a batch file, it contains a series of commands that are issued to the operating system when the file is executed. In this instance, I'd say it's got to do with bootup operations.
2) GoDaddy is a pretty widespread registrar/hosting service. I wouldn't assign too much significance to it coming up every once in a while, as it's pretty commonly used.

Well, my search yielded 29 posts specifically related to Super 8 and mentioning Minot. So I'd say: probably.

In fact ... http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=704974&search_id=1783630707#704974

No certainty if a live... May be after us... We go underground...

It seems to be just a very minimal communication to get basic information across. Not so strange considering the medium (predefined text).

I'm not sure if anyone has caught this but, when checking out

I noticed that at the very start of the program, the word "Furnished" is misspelled "Furniched".

I noticed it but was too lazy to fix it, but now that someone else has mentioned it i went ahead and fixed it.

I'm confused. I thought that was a screenshot? How did you change the spelling of words in the panel readout?

heh, on the wiki it's just text. The screenshot is on the right of the page. He just edited and fixed the typo (which is coloured to match the console appearance) Wink

Ah, ok.
Sorry about that. I've always been really good at spotting grammatical errors in stuff.

That was just screaming "Doctored info" to me.

Thnx Bruce.

Mount > Device?

I was bouncing around in the PDP-11 terminal to try to decide what the next step is going to be. I think it's pretty clear that we're going to have to eventually provide another drive to mount; possibly first committing all the "AF-B4" directory files to tape, then mounting that drive to access them? It seems that the currently mounted drive (DEV1, apparently) is experiencing some trouble in accessing the files considering that we're getting "file read error" returns when trying to execute the files. Possibly another drive will have some more luck.

Since we're currently mounted on DEV1 (fd = open ("DEV1:", O_WRONLY);), I thought maybe that stood for "device 1". However, so far DEV2 through DEV8 haven't gotten me anywhere. Considering that this is listed as a "dual DECtape drive" system, I'm guessing DEV2 is our goal when they update the .swf file.

All purely speculative, of course. I could be way off the mark - this system may have only been designed to give us the block cypher and point us to rocketpoppeteers.com and we're done with it. I'm not sure.

I'm still kind of curious as to what the "B4" part of "AF-B4" could refer to. Some of the file names are pretty interesting, too:
-Does "GRMF55" refer to the Rheinmetall-Borsig F55 "Feuerlilie" developed by Germany in the 40s?
-"GMRF36" and "GMRF71" might refer to magnetoresistance.
-FAT is a file system developed between 1976-1977, used primarily in DOS systems - the "FATR7" and "FATR8" files might be related to that.
-The .BAS files are most likely Basic files, which should give us something nifty when executed.
-The .WRK files could be related to Lotus, which was basically a spreadsheet application for DOS and saved some files in the .wrk format. It was produced from the mid-80s to early 90s, though, so I'm not sure it fits. I know that several audio workstation programs (Cakewalk, for instance) save project files containing track info as *.wrk extensions, so this may just be a case of "these are work-in-progress" files.

Again, I'm not sure what we're looking for, or if we need to be looking for anything at all right now. Just throwing stuff to see what sticks.

to do a C-72 error code to try and bypass the device screen? or maybe an E-31-1511? try and get to the F-8121 and get past to the DOS documents?
