Can we get somebody who's a respected veteran to call a moratorium on all the freaking trouting? For God's sake...it isn't the repeated speculation that balloons these pages as much as all the fracking trouting and apologizing for being trouted. If someone repeats something that's come up before...IGNORE IT!!!! If that person stays persistent than someone can helpfully show them a link to where the information has been posted before.

At least that's how reasonable adults should handle it.

Seriously, go back and look at this thread. Half of the posts are either trouts, flounders, bluegill, marlins, groupers and whatever other marine life can be used to skool n00bs.

Just take it easy with the trouting...it makes it very difficult to follow what's going on.

newspaper

Hey, just thought I would add that I have been here from the beginning, I've just never posted before so I wasn't adding anything I thought you guys didn't no, I had just read a few posts where people were talking about lining up the edges of the newspaper to try to find anything else that might be hidden, and I was trying to say I think that the only way the pages line up is the way it does to find the message. I don't think there is anything new to find there. I didn't explain myself well, sorry!! But all you guys are very welcoming here so don't worry about scaring off newbies!! Smile

I don't know... it's been that way for years and years.

Things will calm down once things actually start happening. Besides, this is one of those "major motion picture" type things that brings in a lot of new players who are still figuring things out in this brand new (not a) game. After a few more months of tracking down every possible lead, everyone will know all the rules.

Until then, I'll giggle at the irony of your post complaining about too much noise on the forum... Smile

Why ignore it? You want that person to be confused as to why everybody is ignoring their post? That's messed up dude. Better to trout & link them right away. That's the whole point...

Nice idea. Perhaps we should use our wiki:
http://super8.wikibruce.com/Scariestthingieversaw.com
and input there alphabetical list of all our tryings.

(A scepticist in me thinks this MOUNT function is deactivated right now, but an optimist just has a hope we're missing something). Smile

Lol, now I'm skeptical that will happen and we'll rule something out early!

Device
device

Well, Ive tried and im sure everyone else has everything we found in the trailer/everything on the paper/website/anything else we could have thought of...None of it has worked so far...and analysis say that theres nothing beyond the device right now. I believe we have to wait until E3 to get a clue on where to go next, Lost finial next Sunday, and probably until they get enough mail to send us back our mailins to open up Rocket Poppeteers...

Well either way it can't hurt. I say we keep a running list if we hit an enormous amount of responses with no progress we can leave it be for a while.

Hey nyc_jester, I understand your frustration, but crackdownjr has the measure of it. A bit of an increase in noise to start with as people get to grips with the new toy, but in the end it helps more than it hinders, doing exactly what you suggested. I agree with HappyFunNorm too that things will calm down when there's more actual stuff to do with the ARG, this is when the slippery fish will come into its own.

I have fish goggles that filter them out Cool

I searched this matter for a while now and my conclusion is that there actually was no "mount" command on the original PDP-11. Only the simu/emulators make use of that command.
You may want to search google for "PDP-11 command mount" and make up your own thoughts.
I tried, to no avail yet.
I quote myself:

Quote:
I just can't believe that there is nothing more to get from that site.
Why would it specifically say "dual tape" and later ask to "mount" a device.
I think that second tape has to be mounted in some way.
I searched through the first google finds on the term "pdp-11 command mount" and came over these:
easier one - http://www.dbit.com/putr/putr.doc
more technical one - http://www.dbit.com/pdf/e11wdemo.pdf

So, they tell that it more or less follows common x86/DOS-syntax and your mount-command would look something like:
MOUNT DX1(maybe an ":" at the end)
which is exactly what the volume/partition/device is called that we access to get to the newspaper stuff. You can read it in the simulator.
So, I really want to believe that this is only the content of the first tape or "DEV1:" how it is also called in the simulator which contains the .dat, .wrk, and .txt files AND that there is other data on the second tape in this dual tape device.
I tried every possible input at the "DEVICE"-prompt, like "EX2", "EY2", "MOUNT DX2", "MOU DY2" and all mixes of those but didn't get it. Maybe, because I can't write a ":" in that simulator because my keyboard is german layout? Can anyone else type in a ":" in some prompt there?

Man, I really wished there were some more clues on that site Site.

I read people saying other people have looked over the source code and found nothing that would lead on from the "device"-screen but how sure is their conclusion? Is this definite or like, maybe?

I searched actual instruction sheets of the PDP-11 and there never was a mention of a "mount" command. So, that is why I believe only simulators use this command.
On deeper investigation the DP56 seems to be handled as only 1 device by a PDP system. I saw a video of it in action and that made me think so. The two reels are accessed almost simultaniously(?). Too fast for a 3.6 Mhz, 16 bit computer as if they were 2 devices.

I wish you luck

My thought exactly, especially since someone checked the website data & confirmed that there was no answer for "Device?" yet.

I see over 65k possible disk name combinations. We're not likely to stumble across it. That's assuming it's even active yet.
