I tried some of the codes lines that scroll on the pdp-11 sim, like, .BOOT DX1:DXMNSJ.SYS and some of its variations. Surprise! no results. This terminal reminds me the SRPA one (resistance arg), but with less possibility (as for now)

Yes, sry for slapping you, it was my fault (I wanted to trout you). But you should have given more information about "odd things"...

Thanks ... But, I did not want to list all that I had done and possibly ruin any surprises (or answers) that you guys/girls can find for yourselves.

Also, working with PDP-11, a "DEVICE" would have to a Ree-to-Reel tape ...
It's already "Mounted" ... It just needs to be "accessed" (which I don't think will happen until the .SWF file is updated).

So, you know when the program first starts up and there is copyright information. The city it gives is Acton, Mass, right? Well, wasn't that the setting for that Fringe episode about people being abducted because their radiation was three times higher and they wanted to create weaponized humans?

Odd and I am sure I am completely off, but it is interesting nonetheless. Sorry in advance if this has already been discussed.

I hope we get to access GMRF36.TXT and GMRF71.TXT files at some point. I just want to open them with Wordpad and figure out what the heck they say!! LOL

So you think we will be getting a video after the device answer is added?

In the mid 70's, computer systems veered away from reel-to-reel to 5 1/4" floppies (with home computers using simple cassette tapes, or 8-track - which were also used in early video recorders).

Most of you are not old enough to have used these types of devices.

I worked on several computer systems in the 60's/70's ...

I have actual instruction manuals. "Mount" is not a command. It is a "query"; asking if the user has mounted any device to be accessed ... i.e. a reel-to-reel, floppy, or any other DEVICE.

Great to have someone here who actually worked with computers like these.
So, you don't happen to know what the proper answer would be on the "device?" prompt or what the correct syntax would be?
And, the emulators make use of a mount-command, as far as I can tell. The ersatz11 for example does. See http://www.dbit.com/disks.html .

But I think I got what you were explaining. So the input should look something like "EX1"? The TU56 tape is accessed as device "DX1", so the simulator we are dealing with uses another logic than the ersatz-11. The syntax includes the controller-address, in this case X. Am I correct there?

Edit: Ok, never mind. And thanks for revealingg the true identity.
Made some more investigation myself and turns out the TU56tape cannot be the device that this simulator is booting from as that device's name is "DX1" which would a floppy-disk. I just think it's odd that there isn't mention of an "accessing device dt1:" or whatever given how much attention to detail was made for this flash-program. On the other hand I never saw a pdp-11 in action so maybe it is original. Just... obsession... probably.

As I mentioned a few dozen pages ago, looking at the Flash source there doesn't seem to be a right answer to the "DEVICE" prompt.

At least not yet...

I am on your side there. It really is probably a dead end. As of now. But I think our ominous "storyteller" is going to attach another drive/device some day and I think we should be prepared and have a clue what to do then. And I think we should not find it out by looking into the code of the page but by having a more "natural" understanding of how this simulator actually works. At least that would be my way of aproaching it.

Edit: well, it also is kind of a personel thing to me. I grew up with tape-devices. I can remember how it was to load a simple game from a tape. It sometimes took 30 minutes for a simple game like "Katakis" or "R-Type" to load. You could go for a shower while your computer was at the loading-screen. It was hilarious, still we had great fun back then.
I'd personally consider it "cheating" if we simply ripped off information from the code instead of actually trying to find it out ourselves on the net. I think it would lower the fun of this game.

In case, please excuse my english, it's not my mother's tongue.

What conditions could make the files (.bas .dat. wrk, etc) appear as listed, but not usable (file read error) except for rscom8?

[Edit]tidied double post for you - the forums are a little sticky at the moment (that blank white page thing) but it's being investigated - MikeyJ

Is the device in the LOST and found?

Has anybody tried entering the numbers from lost into the PDP-11 terminal? I looked and couldn't find anybody posting that so I had to ask, trout me if you must, but I have tried every combination I could think of.

The PDP-11 was made by Digital Equipment Corporation (the "DEC" in the start up info, they were almost fully swallowed by Compaq/HP in '9Cool. DEC was based out of Maynard, MA, which only 4 miles from Acton, MA. Chances are this wasn't a lead on anything but was just verbatim the start up prompt on one of the original PDP-11 operating systems. They get points for authenticity though.
