You know how, when breaking a code, you can use a specific word as your "clue word"? I have no idea how the concept works and I was hoping we'd have a code breaker in the house, but why not use Morris as our code word for the message "no certainty if a live must go underground"?

crypt

I read Neal Stephenson's "Cryptonomicon" once and I really dug it. From what I understood you need to either have as many substitutes as your alphabet has or you need to know the arithmetics in which the code-word has been written. Or you go with substituting the most used letter by the letter "e" as it is the most used letter in most languages and then find out by trial-and-error.
Personally, I don't go this way. I think this is going to be an "in your face campaign" but we need to wait for the coupon-feeders to get answers.
But no offense meant, go on searching for that code.

 Are we 'caught up'?

While it's all worth attempting, I think a lot of this super-deep codebreaking and speculative deciphering will be for naught, in that the game's just started for SUPER 8. We simply haven't been given enough material/clues to proceed much farther than where we stand today... yet.

There may be more new info to be gleaned out of what we have in our hands today, but without additional keys or assets with which to unlock its potential, my guess is we're 'caught up' for the moment.

But I certainly enjoy the enthusiasm which refuses to be satisfied with what we know today! That's how new game discoveries are made... and by you players much smarter than I am. If we run into several dead ends right now, just remember it's early and there's a year of fun still ahead.

I agree, but I think since we're not doing much at the moment, it wouldn't hurt to try our options and perhaps learn a thing or two about this code breaking technique. No point in standing still while there's time to move.

Well, we don't have all of those substitues, and you'd rather not use trial and error, so that leaves substituting the most used letter, right? I'm not sure how that would work. In fact, I'm probably useless for this point so I'll let you guys do it. Razz

as for filmedge, I salute thee as well.

Re: crypt/hackers/etc ...
A little game that has cropped up to help find the tek4114 device code.

Somewhat on topic: If you guys/gals have never attempted to "hack" a computer system, this simulation may help: http://www.addictinggames.com/the-hacker-game.html

While the tags list it as HARD, I found it quite easy (especially since the tutorial basically spells everything out for you).

It's just a shame there is only one level (after the tutorial).
It can be solved (without typing errors) in as little as 91 seconds (my record).

EDIT--->
I have located the makers of this game:
http://www.dpflashes.com/
If you look in the lower left hand corner of the home page, you will see eight shadowed boxes. If you imagine them as a number system, number them 1-4 (top row) then 5-8 (bottom row), then click on them in this order:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1-6-7-2-4-5-3-8
The page it will take you to loads a message from "Mike."
The only input I have discovered, so far is "HI"
(and I don't have the "code" yet).

If you have the time ... I think it may help with learning a bit more about the older DOS based systems and how they operate.
<---END EDIT

already noticed in pages before, the yellow boxes highlight the screens buttons , like the "ok" "X" or the printer and mail on the screen.

I keep finding occurrences of the number 11.
PDP-11

"Stop posting publicly. I can answer your questions.
I have proof." 11 words

"no certainty if alive may be after us we go underground" 11 words
(If we combine "a" & "live" to form one word, which makes the most sense.)

After the PDP-11 loads, at the AF-B4 DIR there are 11 files.

The countdown at scariestthingieversaw.com ended at 11pm ET.

May 11, the teaser is made available online in HD.

The film is to be release 2011.

The number 11 is a master number, so are all double digit numbers like 77, as in 05-Feb-1977.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/11_%28number%29

I don't know what any of this means, I'm just sharing an observation.

I think for that to work you'd need something telling you how to line them up. The "Stop posting publicly" message has no markers on it to know where to line it up with the other pages. The text that is printing in that one would be too sensitive to how you have your page settings when you print it (i.e. on your printer it could very well be printing a completely different distance from the top/side edges than it does on mine).

The other two items are images of the same size and you have the marks to line them up.

Maybe its a sublimal message for the release date for the film?

Mystery Box
Super 8

I think Super 8 is a memory to JJ's Grandfather and will be dedicated to him. I just watched his Mystery box speach and he mentions his grandfather a bunch of times about how he gave his super 8 camera to him. I think this is where we should look for the next clues. His Grandfather
