Not sure if anyone's mentioned it or noticed but how many bytes in size has each item (1-20) been? I know we're looking at a total of 134640 bytes of data being downloaded and 20 items. The size of each items downloaded might provide a clue as to what to expect when it completes.

I ran a couple of tests when we were on sector 4 and almost on 5. I divided the total 134640 bytes by 20 and calculated when sector 4 should have ended. My math was solid (I checked it over and over) but sector 4 did not finish when I calculated it would. I don't think the sectors are all of equal size.

I also did calculations going from sectors 6 to 7 and 7 to 8, and it didn't work out either. It would be helpful to know the size of each sector, but I don't think anyone has been keeping track of that.

Estimates have been on file size in bytes and approximate download speed of 1 byte every 5 seconds. That's effectively remained consistent since it was discovered, and aside from adjustments to the countdown code and values, has remained at ~11pm EDT for quite some time...

Yep, not contesting that. Was just trying to answer the first part of the question about size of each sector. I think it's kind of inconsequential but would have been nice to know the size of each, we just didn't keep records of when each sector finished.

Countdown

I know how you guys like to believe its 1 byte every 5 seconds, but to me it looks like a patern of 5 seconds 7 seconds 2 or 1 seconds (cant count that fast) and about 7 again....its like its trying to say something...idk when the cycle starts or stops

btw if you google 5727 you get North federal highway, associated with Fort Lauderadle florida...Another airforce base...I dont think this is a coincidence...

yea we noticed it was btwn 3 seconds and 7 seconds a couple days after it started . the five seconds is just the average of the countdown ,not the exact time of it. hope that makes things make more sense for you. I understand the confusion if u werent around for that discussion

screenshots
aliens?

if the screenshot they found in the trailer is supposedly an alien i'm super pissed. if the alien actually looks classic like that after they said this was supposed to be more of a horror film, i will be incredibly depressed. hopefully at the end of the countdown we get some solid info or footage. and also i highly doubt this has anything to do with cloverfield. jj abrams helped create the "lost" world. the man is a genius.

The countdown clock is at 3hrs 24mins and 26sec. on that website that is tracking the byte loading and counting down the time till it is finished. So it does look like its gonna finish at 11pm as has been speculated. Props to those that got it right.Getting so close now im getting really hyped. For those that dont know the site here it is.

Hope this helps, I don't have an iphone so I don't know how well it works. http://www.appsafari.com/chat/2739/mibbit-irc-client/

I welcome everyone to join the chat on irc.chat-solutions.org channel #super8. Since the Maintenance for unfiction is scheduled at exactly the time of the file finishing it's a good place for us to congregate. If you don't have an IRC client just click the super8 chat link in my signature, it'll connect via your browser.

Access Main security... ACCESS DENIED
Access Main Program... ACCESS DENIED
Access Main system grid... THEN...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGqzVGJ9bGg

Just another speilberg throwback! but if that happens I'll be pissed then I'll be like:

I'll laugh my ass off if we get that. I wager it's a picture or some sort of file that directs us to another viral site...

It's a lot like ALL throw-backs!

THE PDP-11 HOW-TO BOOK

2.0 RT-11 MONITOR (KMON)
The RT-11 Monitor is a single job general purpose monitor which
fascilitates manipulation of system I/O devices. In addition, it
allows the user to alter memory locations directly.

2.1 BOOTING THE RT-11 MONITOR
After the power is turned on (See section 1.1.1) you will see a
"$" prompt. The computer is promting you for a device name to
read the startup files from. You can enter either DX, DX0, OR
DX1. If the device you have selected does not contain the proper
files, you will get the " BOOT-W-NO BOOT ON VOLUME" error
message. Otherwise the computer will boot up the monitor. (See
section 2.2)

2.2 A DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOTING PROCESS
When booted, the system will run the following files:

DXMNSJ.SYS -Contains the bootstrap
SWAP.SYS -Contains the RT-11 Monitor
STARTS.COM -Commands used on startup.

2.2.1 STARTS.COM
At the present time, this file contains these commands which
are used on start up:

D 56=5015 -Sets fill characters
SET TT:NOSCOPE -Uses backslash when deslecting
D 56=0 -Sets no fill characters
R TIMDAT -Runs time/date program

This is OLD software we are dealing with!
(I know you all recognize these command prompts!)

The PDP=11 was created by Harold McFarland, Gordon Bell, Roger Cady, (and others) for DEC in 1977!

I used these programming codes in High School!

The countdown ends shortly.

Locky!
