it's clearly a different colour from the rest of the shot. it changes shape a bit too.

thank you!!! [/img]

I think I see what you are talking about. I see something that seems to rise and get closer in each frame. I will see if I can cut it out of a screenshot.

rotate the frames 90 degrees counterclockwise, looks to me like a red train wagon is coming into frame from the right. But what's the thing in front of it?

I'm interested in the red'ish brown rectangle thing that's just to the right of that.

Slinky, I think I see what you're talking about now. Is it the shape within the blue lines?

For a bit, i thought you meant the eye-fooling patter in the square.

In the blue, dunno if its my eyes playing tricks.I can make out a creature. Not like a grey in the others.This is kinda dinosaur like.Small arms like a raptor,legs like a raptor.Long face pointed downwards with big eyes on side of head.Its head is kinda hunched over.Like walking but looking at ground.But again my eyes could be decieving me.The yellow box i dont see anything.

Edit--Actually the more i look at it.I see a thing hunched and kneeling like its cold maybe.Kinda balled up.Humanoid body.But still a elongated face,snake or dinosaur like. But zgain i could ve seeing things.Perhaps this shows that there are more then one creature.The greys and this thing.

Okay, now we're on the same page. Some initial thoughts:

1. Do not trust the color of this object in relation to the rest of the scene. These film images have been manipulated within an inch of their lives for this trailer. Filtering, de-saturation and tinting can blow color profiles all out of whack in a given image, producing false colors either deliberately or as an artifact of changes. I noted it seems to 'arise' out of a pool of this color in the early frames after the face. Still, I think this is a visual artifact.

2. Don't trust the order of these frames either. Again, it seems obvious to me that this section alone has been re-edited for visual effect, and one frame likely doesn't not follow another sequentially. Snip a few intermediate frames and any object in the shot will jump around — as indeed pieces of the train wreck move, expand and contract impossibly if these were consecutive frames.

3. My initial impression was that it's a mark ON the film and not an object in it. It does have some very odd visual properties though. As you say, it reacts almost translucently to the bright flash rear-lighting it, but that could also be the result of some semi-opaque mark overlaying the film, which would then seem to 'brighten' from behind, when it's actually just the same "ink" (let's call it) appearing less opaque on a bright frame.

I can't prove #3 at all, just my first guess. The object appears to have no dimension to it, as it someone pulled up a sheet of trash bag plastic in front of the scene. That's not it, but it acts like it in these few frames — something flat and thin, if indeed it's a semi-translucent object. It doesn't act or look like anything else around it, which have obvious shapes and dimensionality to them. This is what makes me think it's a visual artifact, and not part of the scene. Think, can't prove.

At this point I can't imagine what 'clue' it would possibly provide to us given how hard it is to identify.

Thank you film edge!!! you confirmed I am not mad at least you can see it, it's weird!

EDIT: damn white screen.

what i was wondering was do we need to re-order the frames in relation to the golden ratio in some way perhaps?

I just applied the golden ratio to that shot and it points right to it!!!

PDP-11 = 47
You've gotta expect the 47's

In addition to the PDP-11 on scariestthingieversaw.com referencing the old microcomputers sold from 1970's through the 1990's... The PDP-11 also translates out to 47.
Alpha to numeric substitution cipher:
p = 16
d = 4
p = 16
11

= 47

For those new to Jbrams or his work, those of us from Alias, Star Trek, et al, know that he hides 47's in ALL of his projects, shows, etc. Smile I'm just analyzing the sites today since its my first day off, but wanted to go ahead and document this out there.

Nice to have a secret Jbrams project back in the works (insert *eek* here).

A friendly caveat: I don't know if I'd go applying the golden ratio every shot in this film to find some mystical revelation.

In photography terms, it's just a good, OFTEN-FOLLOWED rule of visual composition. Try applying it to a completely unrelated film and I'm sure you'll find the ratio shows up in countless shots — doesn't mean that film is also observing some secret ARG connection to the golden ratio. It could just be good cinematography at work... and that goes for SUPER 8 too.

Or in this case, the custom-made trailer for SUPER 8 that contains *zero* shots from what will be the actual feature film. Smile

I have to agree with FilmEdge. Look too long at anything and you can see whatever you want.

I'm also gonna say that the shot in the post above, with the image rotated 90degrees showing a crouching figure or w/e is just the part of the undercarriage wreckage, as you can see another object next to it with the same color, tone, and texture.

The object that Slinkydge is referring to, is actually in front of the other object and the corner of the reddish rectangular thing (which you can see is very defined I might add) is actually blocking the area in front of the first object giving it the illusion of a head and neck area of a creature.

I do however think there is more to be gleened from analyzing the trailer.

Like the milestone markings on that pole. To me those numbers look just like any other rail pole you might see where a worker just spray-painted or "Chalked" the marker as they were laying the tracks.

Having it in the foreground, in a trailer the game creators knew would be analyzed, is a different thing though.
