Following on from that, it's simply the canister of film that is relevant to the plot of the film? So there's truck person and filming person? Do we have evidence from the trailer that the accident was filmed in Super 8 format?

I don't think so. It's way too high quality to be Super 8. A lot of it is CG.

ETA: For reference, here is a sample movie filmed in Super 8mm: http://vimeo.com/1223762 and another: http://vimeo.com/1223815

Here's my wild ass theory: we haven't seen all the trailers yet.

Prior to the trailer getting seen, there was rumors about actors filming something thinking that it was a "romantic comedy" sort of thing. I think that's still a possibility.

TRAILER 1: What we've seen. Something big and nasty has "arrived".

TRAILER 2 AND ON: Home movies, recorded with the traditional Super 8 camera, of people doing home movie stuff, and they happen to get glimpses or film something. Think of the Patterson-Gimlin film (which was filmed on 16mm film), but with aliens instead of Bigfoot.

BTW, on a semi-related note, Kodak says Super 8 film is very much alive.

Nah. "Frequency" has already done that and we know how that turned out.

Let's just go ahead and have the discussion now, before someone shows up who wants to have it without any sarcasm:

JJ Abrams is involved with this movie and trailer takes place around the time of the Dharma Initiative, so obviously the creature in the train is the smoke monster. The truck was driven by Jacob, and the whole thing takes place in purgatory.

For the record, I'm a huge Lost fan and I know damn well that it wouldn't be that hard to fill in everything we don't know about Super 8 (which is a lot) with Lost characters and plotlines. And I'm sure somebody will. It's just not realistic.

Well, I'm also huge LOST fan, and perhaps - just perhaps - this movie will have to do with LOST like miniseries "Mysteries of the Universe", i.e. not directly about Oceanic 6 and stuff, but about Dharma Initiative etc.

But I think, this time it may have some tie ins, but will be more a Spielberg homage, than JJ World - like JJ let Tagruato and Slusho to glipmse into the Star Trek world, but not too intense, almost subliminal, to not make Trekies angry Very Happy

Yeah I figured it would be (love that one of the dancers Smile ) I was wondering about some of the inserted stuff though? Or is that the CG?

LOL Voltron. Brings back Mister Grumpy Pants memories.

Just a thought.
In that trailer, that truck makes a bee-line right into that train. No rational person in the 70's would do something like that. Perhaps the monster/alien/whatever the hell it is has the ability to either take over someone's mind or perhaps certain vehicles?

That would make sense if it was a Grey

I'm guessing an experimental human/ET hybrid experiment was taking place in some form or another of DNA splicing. The project got out of hand, there was an escape (pickup driver). During that time they decided to move the project in case it became public this would absolve the government and make them look like the good guys. The escapee found out about the movement of the "cargo" and is trying to get his "friend". Which will turn out to be some crazy beast of a creature (think resident evil's Nemesis).

They're great. Like it, thanks. I like the blurriness of the start of the second one. Lends itself nicely to "glimpses" and mystery.

What's the source on the speculation that parts might be a group (of kids) making a home-movie super 8 film (kinda like J.J. and his early cameras, mentioned in the TED talk clip). I love the teenagers' boat trip in Jaws. Lots of character and honesty. Everyday chatter. This would make it a format/direction kinda like Cloverfield though, which I'm not sure this project is about. Been their. Done that(?)

If you go and read the testimony by SGT.Dan Morris where he divulges his knowledge of our involvement with aliens, UFO coverups and his work for the govt and what he knows, you can see where this story might be going..

http://www.galactic-server.net/rune/greer6.html

If this is true, the possibilities are endless... and the plot possibilities for the film and the Viral are as well..

I predict not only Voltron, but huge lions that are alive, giant turtles in the clouds, demons in women's hair, a cameo by Ethan Haas, and a hybrid Loch Ness monster - Bigfoot - Alien monster. Sounds like alot o fun. LOL
