That did contain references to the US/Soviet arms talks if memory serves me well.

Agreed...

For reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Race

Think we'll have to wait until August? L. Gordon Cooper went on the Gemini 5 for 8 days in space in August of 1965.

Yes, the article was all about Kennedy's Nuclear Test Ban Treaty speech, which of course involved the USSR in the Cold War arms race, and mentioned Krushchev directly.

I don't know that we can get much more out of the newspaper images than we have until the RP site gets updated or goes live (unless a new clue breaks in the meantime). But it's definitely an era and aspect of history (the Space Race) involved in the ARG... and 1979 is still before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

the moon in rocketpoppeteers.com

hey guys, I know this was brought forward by someone earlier on,

but did anybody else notice the moon in the rocket poppeteers site, its showing undergoing a phase that when you pull up the moon chart on the HookLineMinker blog you get July 7 or 8 (this of course if the IMAGE is not inverted) ... to add to this, its also the same phase as the moon pic that Josh Minker uses on his FB page as his display pic.

the correspoding time on the image

july 6: 8:02 am - 8:45 am - 8:14 pm - 8:49 pm
july 7th: 8:45 am - 9:27 am - 8:01 pm - 9:42 pm

This is im asuming in the same timezone to where John is currently living right now ...

Its also strange that the title of the image is "Best Time To Spot Rare Fish" - in accordance to the time above, something "rare" might happen (be visible) between those time. The fact that there is a start and end time could mean that its temporary ...

Also where this occurence might happen, or what in itself might happen I cant even predict. It could happen on any site, the facebook page, the RP site and/or the blog ... i guess ill leave some more speculating for u guys

As for right now, it doesnt hurt to keep our eyes out for the 2 days and hope that there is some new development in this awesoness lol

I also hope you meant July, unless you've got a time machine to jump back a month? Smile

i searched the copyright records, and i guess not surprisingly the poppeteers copyright at the bottom of the page doesn't actually exist.

not that it means much of anything, but i didn't see it in the search so i figured i might as well post it and maybe someone can make something of it.

Flower child

I know flowers have been mentioned here before but haven't seen it commented on but am sure I'll be slapped upside the head with Tommy Trout, but has anyone flipped the illustration on the RP site upside down and looked at the little boy's head?

Looks to me like a sunflower.

Anyone else?

Hi all. Just got an email reply to my reply to CaptCoop.. nothing new...

Captain Coop wrote:
> Sorry, kids!!! Captain "Coop" Cooper is out battling The Red Cozmo! Become a certified Rocket Poppeteers Astronaut and join the Race to Outer Space!

I sent this reply to the first email

Thanks for the reply!

I am trying to become a Certified Rocket Poppeteer.. Can you please tell me what I need to do to become one?
Thank you and send my best wishes to Captain Coop in his battle with the Red Cozmo.

Melodyman.

This reply again.. today

Sorry, kids!!! Captain "Coop" Cooper is out battling The Red Cozmo!

Become a certified Rocket Poppeteer Astronaut and join the race to outer space!

Note the >....and the plural poppeteers in the first and the singular in the second..
Hand typed by someone.. not a form letter..

Why is a fictitious fan club from the 60's answering our emails today?

I was wondering that too. Vintage looking newspaper, but current day website and email responses. Curious.

 E-mail's Origin

I know several people have posted that e-mail and the Internet were not around during the 1960's when in fact... it's been around a lot longer than people think.

A crude e-mail system (accessible on the same machine by different users) was created by MIT in the early 1960's. By the mid 60's, they were able to share e-mail in different locations so long as you had the same system.

Here's the Wikipedia page (E-Mail), but i remember this stuff from my Computer History class! HA.. who thought that would ever come in handy.

As far as the Internet goes... that was a governmentally funded project for the military to share information quickly and efficiently. That was also started in the 60's.

Both of these resources didn't come to the mass public until the late 70's and 80's, but they've been around for quite some time.

email? around for how long?

Melodyman;

Also got a reply like your second:

"Sorry, kids!!! Captain "Coop" Cooper is out battling The Red Cozmo!

Become a certified Rocket Poppeteer Astronaut and join the race to outer space!"

Noticed that also outer space was Outer Space in the first reply to you.

Wonder if they have a set of "pat" responses to use to indicate/simulate hand written replies?

I got a really quick reply, sent 2 July, same text:

Sorry, kids!!! Captain "Coop" Cooper is out battling The Red Cozmo!

Become a certified Rocket Poppeteer Astronaut and join the race to outer space!

I also noticed the capitilisation on Outer Space in some texts, not on my reply, inc the newspapers, compared to other places.

The last mails responses was all the same, no more "is out on another cosmic adventure", "is out bringing justice to the galaxy" or "is out solving a thrilling space mystery"...
