umm...if I am posting in the wrong place and we have exhausted scariest thing.com please let me know, but has anyone seen this handbook??? it is not searchable, due to the fact that it is uploaded from a doc circa 1972 but it does discuss devices that can be used as peripherals and storage for the PDP-11. I have a hot date, so I gotta run Wink but I think it may be worth it to type in one if not all of the devices mentioned in section 1.3/

Again, if I have another part of the convo to post this in please let me know. I missed a hell of a lot in only 2 days! Mailing off for my "poppeteers" tomorrow Laughing

Well, I hadn't seen that one yet. I really thought it was the right track, it looked like it was going to help at first, but it has the same problems as the other ones I've looked at. None of the commands for this pdp-11 match the ones we know are part of the one at www.scariestthingieversaw.com. All of these are 3 characters, and all of the ones we know are 4, 5, or 6, not to mention I saw no .exec equivalent, no mention of commiting to tape drive, etc. I feel like it is closer to being right than the others, but that might just be me. where did you find it?

Jesus, I missed A LOT. Went to bed last night all disappointed about the "disconnected" thing, then this shows up Laughing .

So, about the site, is there any reason the logo is a .gif?

I haven't seen anyone mention that yet. You think it is animated or something?

Maybe you should post it on the Access B4 countdown thread, just to see if anyone else can use it.

I just left the page open for a while, and it hasn't moved or anything so far. Are there .gif's that don't move, like .jpg's?

Yeah, sometimes gif's are just used as normal, non-moving images, often for logos and site images, I think it's a better quality or something.

Oh, and, when you mail in the coupon, do you put it in an envelope and put it in? What do you put on the front, just the PO box number?

You fill it out completely, I.E.

John Doe (or Business Name)
PO Box 123
Town, ST 10001

In an envelope.

Yeah, they can be still too. I'm not sure what the reason would be for having a still pic be a .gif instead of .jpg, but I don't think it is uncommon.

re: the GIF. As a developer I often have to choose which image format is best... it's a balance of image quality, colour, and file size, and those differ from format to format.

With the logo being all grey scale and not very photographic, a GIF or PNG would be an option to make a smaller file size than a JPG and even retain more quality (especially in those large solid white regions).

I did open it and did a simple preliminary background fill just to cover the possibility something might be 'nearly' hidden in the white background, but found nothing. That's all I've looked into the GIF for hidden content. But I'm not too hopeful for anything there; right now it wouldn't make much sense, to me at least *shrug*

Quite right, excuse me.

Sorry, didn't mean to come off snarky, there should have been a smiley there Smile

Alright, thanks. I haven't had to use an envelope in a long time. Now I'm gonna need to go digging for some stamps...
