I know this is a bit off topic and feel free to slam me because i'm sure this has been covered elsewhere.. I just didn't want to read through tons of pages..
But has anyone tried to read the red lettering on the official Super 8 Movie site that's on the film that's rolling through the camera lens? It passes by so fast. Just thought i'd ask..

Weird thing is:
the coordinates of this mailbox found with maps.google
are different from then of Microsoft maps [bing]

Perhaps Microsoft Maps link only to the city Minot, not to the box.

i'd say that's about right. putting in only "minot, ND" in google maps search shows the correct location of the city, but yet with the PO box and the zip code, it shows the field.

another observation i made - zooming out from the field in google maps (i'd say zooming out until the slider marker is at the half way point) shows us that the field is southwest and outside the city of minot, near afton township. i also noticed that typing in "minot, ND 58702" in google maps (without the PO box) brings you to that same field as well. however, in bing, typing that same thing in only puts the map right over the city. "p.o. box #1331 minot, nd" directs us back to the city again.

my conclusion - google maps doesn't support the input of PO boxes, and it would appear bing doesn't either, as the marker is in directly in the center of the city. the interesting thing is the zip code, which is how bing would show the city while google maps would put us in a field outside minot. now, the thing that's bugging me about this is, is google maps displaying the zip code correctly? or is bing? or are both wrong?

We did already, it says "scariestthingieversaw" which led us to the website.

Hey guys, sorry I'm not HTML wiz so was wondering if anyone could help. Looking at the source for www.rocketpoppeteers.com I recognize the image stuff but I'm confused by what this is doing:

<script>

var _gaq = _gaq || [];
_gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-16400964-1']);
_gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'none']);
_gaq.push(['_setAllowLinker', true]);
_gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);

(function() {
var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
})();

</script>

It seems like it's tracking viewing in some way. Can anyone help explain what this is doing?

I didn't think it was the same as the one from the trailer. I tried slowing it down and there are obviously letters that are not in the spelling of "scariestthingieversaw" like a "D" and a "K".

Actually, the scariestthing is from the trailer. He is talking about the camera lense on the super8-movie.com website, and yes, that has been read. I don't remember word for word, but it says something like: "Title:________ Owner:________ Developed by Kodak" or something along those lines. I think they were going for realism, as I can't see how any clues could come from stuff like that.

well, two things i recognize here is the google analytics number for the site/domain (UA-16400964-1) and the other is that it is indeed tracking page views. the other stuff i'm not sure about but i'm certain it's not exactly game related (that is, the code listed here isn't exactly game related, but the site IS)

part of the code also appears to be using javascript.

Sounds more like it.
Just checkin.

Correct; that's Google Analytics. It's used for site activity tracking.

just wanted to throw this out there so people don't get confused and mixed up: there's a hotel chain called "super 8" and one of their hotels is in minot. saying this because the hotel chain is OOG and unrelated to the ARG, so be careful not to get mixed up.

Well, it seems we have everything we can find from the first page of the newspaper, but whats in page 2 that we need to get?
Obviously there is something there they want us to see or why include the second page?
Hmmmm.. Question

You're right, it does seem like there should be more than that cryptic quote about going underground. There is a full page of text and we have only used like 7 words out of it.

The 2nd page contained the words for the hidden message. It does seem that here is an awful lot of text just for one sentance though.

It could just be that the page was used to complete the block cypher, and nothing more. Going to be a lot of misdirection in this one, I think.
