I'm sorry if this comes out sounding rude, but if you dislike EMH or don't think it's as good as other people do, then why do we need to explain it to you at all? I don't really follow the logic there. If you don't like this series, that's cool. That's your opinion. Just don't follow it if it's not enjoyable to you. ^^;

I LOVE this idea. I was trying to figure out the tie-in between Slendy and Jeff and this one certainly makes sense, and ties in with that excerpt from House of Leaves.

Another thought I had was that in a parallel universe Jeff survived the fire but was burned beyond recognition, and somehow discovered a way to emerge in this universe as the Slender Man and is now trying to take over Jeff's life in this reality.

Too Final Destination...

I think it's more connected to the Original pic, the one with the story of some fire at (IIRC) a school...I don't recall too of it.

I agree they encountered him while younger, or at least Jee, Damsel, and MAYBE Evan. So far though the clues aren't enough to assume much else. If anything you'd think it Jeff woulda been the one looking at CYSTW if they share experiences. Still not enough facts to be definite on much.

Okay, main things I took from that video:
Jeff had some MAJOR TRAUMA as a kid (duh)
Slight hearing loss from the damned loudness of the creepy distortion (just as he walked into that room, too)
Somebody mentioned the purple text in House Of Leaves, it turns out it reads as follows: What I'm remembering now , which does make a lot of sense when you think about it. He's gone back to a place where he's experienced a major traumatic experience as a child.

I used to be on the fence about the repeated references to HoL, because like someone said before me, it felt really shoehorned in there (especially on Damsel's blog, which is why I didn't follow it in the beginning), but the fact that they're using it to leave us clues now makes it way less annoying.

For the longest time I thought they were just a bunch of goofballs, but in the past week or so I think they've really proven themselves to be total masterminds. Now if only my wrist didn't feel so naked...

(also, to the people not wanting to buy the book... LIBRARIES!)

in all honesty I'm planning on buying the book. I think I'd enjoy it regardless of the hype. Plus I like to keep bumping up my book collection. Got a small library coming along nicely now Very Happy lol.

My local library is pretty awesome in general, but they don't carry HoL Sad I'm sure I'll buy it one of these days.

If you don't like it, how would other people explaining why they like it make it better for you? If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine. if you don't like things that are "convoluted, and tricky" then a story like this is probably not going to be enjoyable for you.

So basically...if you tuned in at the beginning, lucky you. If you tune in now, good luck understanding the plot / storyline. The 'I'm a douche and not going to explain anything, so you better quit asking questions.' is getting old fast.

I don't know if you noticed, Barto, but there's a whole thread's worth of discussion of the entire series before this page, yes it's 86 pages, but quite a few people have gone to the effort of reading it all to catch up, without anyone yelling "RFTM!" at them. That is the way these games work, we'll fill in any odd blanks, but nobody is going to summarise 85 pages of game discussion for somebody.

EDIT: I apologise if that came across as brusque, but really, the original post was hardly polite.

It's not that hard to figure out, kiddo. Find the Youtube account, find the Twitter account, watch the videos and read the tweets in order. Boom.

To be fair, SlenderSniper's question was "Why do you people think this is interesting" rather than "I am lost on the story, please fill me in on what's going on." Anyway, I'll try my best to describe the story as I understand it.

The EMH guys put together an exercise series on YouTube. Thinking it would be funny, they included a fake Slender Man in their videos. It's definitely meta, as the "EMH guys" are characters, and the decision to make a YouTube series was made in the story by the characters.

Unfortunately, some of the Slender Man shots/distortion that made it into the final product weren't added by them. Where'd he come from? Well, apparently filming a reenactment of Slender Man activities puts a target on you, and the real one will come after you.

The guys continue to hang out and film themselves and their exercise series (mostly for character development, like in "A Day in the Life"). However, the encounters with Slender Man are freaking them out (and are caught on tape, mostly). They do not believe that the real SM is after them - as far as they know, he is a fictional character. So, they blame pranksters for these encounters. Unfortunately, this does not make the threat any less real.

A Slender Man fanatic (the owner of CYSTW) begins stalking the EMH guys to warn them (indirectly) of the dangers they face. She takes photos of their hangout session in "A Day in the Life", and draws all over them.

Her efforts with them are in vain. Slender Man has been making them unaware of most things going on, including videos they have been posting (they literally cannot see the videos on their YouTube page). They forget the vivid dreams of SM they had the night before, and have remained almost completely unaware of SM's presence.

To reach them, CYSTW has been contacting members of the ARG community, aka the fans of EMH. The EMH guys are at least listening to their fans, who can pass along the warnings of CYSTW.

What's the appeal of EMH? If you're a fan of everything meta, you'll enjoy the extra layer added on top of EMH to keep it from turning into a standard MH-clone. If you're a fan of exercising, the content produced by the EMH characters is pretty good. If you're a MH fan, you'll enjoy the extra "what's Slender Man up to" content until Season 2 starts.

If you're not a fan of any of those things, EMH may not be your cup of tea. The guys are good actors, and the scenarios are well thought out, but this might not be enough to keep your interest if you don't like the genre.

Ok, this might be way left field, but I was reading the original SA Slender Man/Create Paranormal Images thread the other day, and I'm suddenly reminded of one of the stories on there. I can't remember if it was in connection to Slender Man or not, but it was the one about the Grandmother that made it to America with nothing but a spoon and they could find no record of a husband even though she has a son, and in the story she tells her son not to have kids because the world has a way of "correcting" itself. At the end the main character, the grandmother's youngest grandson, realises that through some loop in time his grandfather was made to never exist and now the thing that's after his family is coming to "correct" the paradoxes that were left from making the grandfather not exist.

Well as soon as I heard about the school fire that Jeff was trapped in, my brain went immediately to "Slendy's correcting his mistakes, Jeff was supposed to die OMG OMG!" and I'm never sleeping again pretty much. Shocked

Slender Man as the space-time continuum's clean-up man? That's a pretty wiggy take on it... just crazy enough to have merit!

Damsel stalked the EMH guys? I can totally see how that conclusion was made, but... if that was the idea... that wasn't telegraphed enough. Not enough for me to buy into it just yet. But I like it though. Cool theory, bro. I'll keep that one in mind. Very Happy

Also, lets stop talking to people who don't like EMH? And the ones who are too lazy to go back to the start of the associated accounts/sites to do their own detective work. It's going to bulk up the thread with needless jibber jabber.

PROTIP: If you don't like EMH, there's the door. Wanna know how to be cool? If you don't like something, just let it go. I do this a lot with music and movies that I can't get into. Whatever. No ones loss. Do us all a HUGE favor though... don't ask us to recap you on it or complain about it in this thread, please? It's useless to complain about it for everyone in the long run. And it only serves to junk stuff up for those that use this thread to read another recap when we come in here expecting news or cool fan speculation. We need it for real updates in the story, guys. Not whining about not liking the story or acting or someone asking us to help them catch up.

If you really want to catch up, all the associated sites have been posted several times. Do what I did. Read them and then KEEP UP WITH THEM! Yeah at this point it's a lot of work, but really rewarding because it's fun to watch play out.

In fact, can we do something really helpful here for newbies to EMH? Update the first post in this topic be edited with all relevant sites just to help out new people. No need to recap it because the fun part should be the self discovery of what the hell it is that we're talking about. Fair enough, right?

Sorry to go off there like that (for like the second time in this thread too. lol I swear I'm really nice! I just never see the updates in time to report anything relevant!), I'm just trying to keep shit in check here because I WANT MY EMH TO GO UNINTERRUPTED, DARNIT! And all of this internal passive hostility is just bullshit that doesn't need to happen.

I do feel for the people just tuning in, and I can understand your frustration, but let's try to avoid getting cranky with each other. No one wants bad vibrations in the EMH Thread (well, ones that aren't canon, anyway).

When I find a ARG that looks interesting and it's already mid-game, I usually do my own research to get caught up, which is time-consuming but also pretty fun. HOWEVER, I think it would be pretty amazing if we could find a way to keep the first page updated in the same way that the MH Thread/Wiki was updated, especially since EMH seems to be veering down the complicated ARG-y route.

Also, a pretty pressing question for my fellow ladies in the thread: exactly how hot do you find Evan?

That's not what I was saying, and the question had nothing to do with explaining the information present in the ARG. The question was "why do you like this?" which is a fairly pointless question in my opinion, since someone explaining why they like something isn't going to do much to make it more enjoyable for someone who doesn't like it.

Secondly, the storyline is not that hard to understand, seriously. There's only a few sources involved, and if you don't want to read/watch those things yourself, I have to wonder what interest you actually have in it.

I didn't even start at the beginning, I only really found out about EMH about 3 or 4 weeks back. I did my due diligence, watched the youtube videos, read the twitter, checked out CYSTW, and I even went to the extra step of reading every single page of this thread in case I'd missed something. Barring reading through the entire thread, it's not a complicated or difficult process.
