How are "devastated" and "commit" errors?

(That does seem to make a perverse sort of sense, though. Maybe Corenthal went under cover as Robert Smith during the 80s?)

Commit should be Committed, and devastated is out of place, according to word.

Aargh. I was looking for spelling, not usage. Thanks!

I think Word flags "devastated" because it's a sentence fragment. It seems stylistically valid there, though.

And the idea that the letters could be modified or allegorical? Mind. Blown.

I wouldn't take the typos as evidence, though. MDs aren't known for their impeccable prose skills (or their handwriting).

Eachother's such a common mispelling I personally wouldn't count it.

For some reason, the fact that its eachother after Evan and [redacted] creep me out.

Like they are pushing the two together to form one. D:

Hmm. Vince seems to think the letters are fake. Perhaps the typos are meant to suggest that they weren't actually written by an educated man like Corenthal, which would be evidence that they are forgeries. But to what purpose? Perhaps the story they tell is an analogy for the HYBRIDs' "real" situation.

Alternately, it could be a sign that the letters have been transcribed (either in a hurry or by someone with bad spelling) for some purpose, and these aren't the originals. But why would someone make a transcription like that when they could just photocopy the originals? Perhaps the letters being sent out are actually modified in some way - leaving out details, putting fake details in, that sort of thing - and when we or the boys find the originals they'll tell a very different story. By this theory the typos may be meant to be a clue that a particular part of the text has been tampered with.

Again, if this was in the ustream and I missed it because I haven't had 2 hours free, sorry, but when did Vince indicate he thought the letters were fake?

I agree that the typos probably have some significance... I don't think the letters are fake, though, based on the reaction of the old woman (Maryann, perhaps?) in ".-". She reacted badly to the name HABIT. So there's some grain of truth in them... The tampering part could be something.

I'm also noticing a slight discrepancy between this letter (1976) and the 1981 letter. In this one, Dr. C talks about the four kids as his own children; in the 1981 letter, it's a bit more clinical, refering to them as his patients first. He still says they're his children, but the emphasis seems to be on them as his patients, not as his adopted children.

Creeeeep shit!

If you take out "Devastated" and "Happy.Full of laughter." due to style error, you get

I COMMIT SINGS EACHOTHER

To be honest, in the 'commit' sentence...wouldn't condemn be wrong too?

It should be either "committed and condemned" or "have" needs to be removed.

Okay. Because I'm a total geek, I just skimmed all the Corenthal letters/journal entries, looking for typos. Here's what I got:

1976: it = It; commit = committed; condemn = condemned; sings = signs; eachother = each other

1981: none

Nov. 1971: Has (H capitalized mistakenly); dead = dear; and = an; Rabit = Rabbit

May 1971: "wanted us to me-- me and Badger!" sentence fragment, seems to be missing a few words, could just be the way a child speaks

All ya'all really need to take into consideration the fact that we don't have the entire code yet, if there is one. How do I know this?

We don't have all the boxes.

True. Oh, that's another thing... what's been written on the envelopes? They seem to be fragments of messages.

I know we don't have all the information and thus will be able to solve nothing, but dammit, if we don't plant the epileptic trees, then who will!?

Negative, at least to the people already playing word scramble. Mainly because someone will find something that seems like a sensible sentence and declare it solved, then the rest of the fanbase will think that's Canon, then when the next letter/report surfaces we'll have a massive BAWWW fest because people were wrong.

Well if you guys want to go around planting trees, don't forget that every single clue might be an anagram, so you can't even rely on the words. You might have to unscramble the letters themselves.

Absent the Powerade every item that has been included in one of these packages has turned out to be a clue, most notably the HABIT pendant and the matching birdhouse pendant.

So what are we thinking on the toy soldier? It looks like a traditional Christmas wooden toy soldier to me, ala The Nutcracker or Babes In Toyland. Are they just offering this as a Christmas present, or something more?

My guess is that it belonged to the Corenthal family. The letter revolves around Christmas, and the little toy soldier looks like a Christmas Tree Ornament you'd see back in the 80s.

I think we might need to get a bit more information on it from bebravenow once he gets back from holiday festivities. It might just be an ornament meant to tie in with the whole Christmas theme.

BTW, has anyone linked Jeff with info about this yet, or should we just wait for the wiki page to be lovingly constructed?

Heh. If that's the case... well, people have to do something over winter break, right?

I'm honestly more interested in keeping all the clues organized. Track the misspelled words and ramblings on the envelopes so that as we get more boxes and letters we'll be able to tell if/when patterns start to show up.
