There's several theories about the connection between the Fairmount kids and the EMH crew. Time travel, stasis, reincarnation... there's some connection. Jeff might think it's all a big coincidence (at least, he did in the last round of e-mails), but there's a reason they've all got the same names. There's a reason that HABIT appears to have shown up in Evan again, and there's a reason that the four of them being together feels like family. I don't know what that reason is, but it's not a random accident.

Thanks! Rabbits are the bestest.

I'm still clinging to the Eternal Recurrence/"videogame respawning" theory, but I'm clinging pretty weakly. I have a strong feeling that Jeff's August 21 tweet might be significant in this regard.

For reference:

Quote:
Jeff tweets "I-59 south. I'm not playing someone's game. Let's break the rules and follow a loop-hole. Something he didn't intend for me to find."

Jeff's always been viewing this whole thing as a puzzle that someone (something?) is leading them around on, as opposed to Evan who views it as a hunt, or Vince who... maybe still thinks it's someone fucking with them? Vinnie's opinion on the situation is unclear.

Speaking of clues, I hope they're able to get back into Alex's room to get the paper from Centralia sometime soon. Another puzzle to figure out...

(Hi everyone, I'm new. Been lurking for about a week, but can finally join in now that finals are over.)

Speaking specifically of Jeff treating it like a puzzle makes me think back to his disappearance after Joke's Over (I know it's probably been discussed to death, but I wasn't around back then) when they found the circled passage in House of Leaves in Jeff's room.

Quote:
Why did god create a dual universe?
So that he might say
Be not like me, I am alone
And it might be heard.

And bookmarking the page is the business card with "I'm on to something." Have we discussed the possibility the HYBRIDS might be parallel version of the Corenthal children?

Welcome! Now that you've stopped lurking, there is no hope for you. The madness sets in now. Very Happy

And oooh, I like that theory. I'm of the opinion that multiple dimensions are involved somehow, and parallel universes would make some amount of sense. We know for sure that the following names have been given in both "dimensions":

Evan
Vincent
Jeffrey
Linnie
Doctor Corenthal
Maryann Corenthal
HABIT
[redacted] (if we assume that this is Damsel)

I... had a point with listing off those names, but it's lost to me now. This is what I get for trying to theorize about parallel universes while I'm exhausted and at work.

I think I'm gonna try to dig through the wiki and find all the references to time and multiple dimensions/universes that I can. I know a couple of the boxes had notes to that affect...

Yeah, I figured I was doomed.

I'm wondering is if they ever questioned Jeff about that once he came back or if they just forgot. Or Jeff didn't remember doing it. Haven't had time to go back and watch the old Ustreams, but did it ever come up?

Happy Birthday Raven and Mattwan!

Looking at Rhiannon's list, if we're considering a reincarnation/eternal recurrence theory, then everyone on the list from Fairmount should be dead and in their second "life". But the Corenthals are still alive and Linnie is (or was until recently if the dead girl from CCNB is her) still writing letters. If Jessa is supposed to be the reincarnation of Linnie, this throws everything off, since I figure that the reincarnation cycle doesn't start until everyone is dead.

The same flaw would also apply to the parallel universe theory (I think?), since there would be at least three people in both universes.

But since no one knows what the hell is going on in the EMH'verse, I'm probably completely wrong. *shrugs*

Good points. Maybe the NPCs like Corenthal and Linnie aren't part of the respawning?

There could be more to the story than the Corenthal children. We don't know that they were the only Evan, Jeff and Vince to be stalked and tormented by Slender Man. Maybe this is something that's been playing out over and over again, many times, with the boys being constantly reborn only to eventually be driven into madness and death before they hit 30.

I really like this line of speculation. Plus, who wouldn't love Medieval Hybrids? "I shudde have had mine knyffe!"

Why.......how..........how do you know what's been said in my house literally 5 minutes ago? My other half was talking to his dad about what to take to their next fight.

While it's on my mind, some other things that may be worth watching for... I realize they haven't done much that can be confirmed to tie in to Jersey folklore, legends, etc. but there is a possibility of it. (I'm also being mindful of the fact that if you look for something, you're likely to think you found it, when in fact it's just your perspective.)

While the references have been limited, and may be more of a joke or easter egg, Jersey has a bit of a pirate connection, which could relate to Candle Cove, or perhaps Candle Cove was a vague hint at this.
The town of Ringoes, NJ was founded by John Ringoes, who, according to local legends, had some pirate connections or was in fact a pirate himself. Some people insist that he buried a treasure somewhere, and occasionally someone will dig up their back yard in the hopes of finding it.
There are also a couple of legends of ships running into trouble along NJ, one involving a mutiny. These are fairly vague stories, though, that I've only recently come across.

The city of Newark, NJ has a Fairmount neighborhood, but there doesn't seem to be any strange history to that area. It's a fairly common place name, too--Philadelphia has a Fairmount neighborhood, and many other states have towns named Fairmount.

There is, of course, the Jersey Devil...but I think that was proven to be a backward community stumbling onto the Turnpike Razz

I too noticed something I'd forgotten about. In the earlier letters, Corenthal states that HABIT/Evan improved (albeit slowly) once he began a photo diary. Several thoughts come to mind- 1.) are those photos still out there? 2.) this is very similar to what they are doing now, and draws a strange amount of connection to Jeff actually, 3.) perhaps if Evan goes any farther off the edge, we can suggest this same tactic to the boys? Who knows.
*back to lurking.

Corenthal DID mention a trunk of the kids' belongings. I NEED to know where that trunk is and what's in it.
