The new tweet, in its entirety:

Quote:
"LAND OF ASHEN WASTE" -- where. is. it. What the hell is happening. And to think that some people claim to withhold answers. [J] #EMH

I think they're getting pissed with the cryptic bullshit.

Do you think maybe Jeff is trying to tell us that this is time for the game to go all ARG-y? As in, should we be trying to figure out where the Land of Ashen Waste is?

Edit: New update from Damsel too - Possum Kingdom by the Toadies. A reference to Alex, maybe? After watching the video, there might also be some symbolism there... dragging a bag that appears to contain a dead body through a stream.

All I know is it's some LOTR reference. Don't know much else. Ash though, Big thing in HoL and the Slenderman Mythos. So who knows.

Maybe it's a reference to Damsel's old stomping ground? (I was going to make a joke about the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg, but realized that my stock would probably plummet into the realms of the irredeemably nerdy, so I refrained)

I know this is reaaaaally reaching, but I figured I would post it anyways. I broke apart the Land of Ashen Waste. The general definition of Ashen is pale, so I googled Land of Pale waste, and one of the top links was Salt Lake City. SLC is often referred to the land of pale tine, tine being all this

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&defl=en&q=define:tine&sa=X&ei=YnCpTN39EYP-8AaxrNSADQ&sqi=2&ved=0CBIQkAE

So, since it mentioned prongs and other slendy impaling metaphors, I thought I would mention it on the off chance I was close to right.

But Utah is way far away, so meh. A related search between that and Slendy turned up nothing. Same goes for the rake. So, yea, I pretty wrong. Oh well. Smile

Or maybe its a scrambled phrase. I tried to unscramble it, but I got a whole lot of nothing.

ETA: I also found this. Its a Contemporary German fairytale/fiction/thingy. It should highlight right to ashen waste.

http://books.google.com/books?id=syHN5a-4NMcC&pg=PA196&lpg=PA196&dq=%22ashen+waste%22+land+of&source=bl&ots=BLb4NvDg2-&sig=eG69JSyBTkJrz0krR1gbCG0eYVc&hl=en&ei=V3WpTICkAsaAlAf-luGlDQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=10&ved=0CD4Q6AEwCQ#v=onepage&q=%22ashen%20waste%22%20land%20of&f=false

I did a quick skimming and I saw forests pop up quite a few times and fire 20 something times, so could it be related? I will read what is available later, I have to get some sleep. From what I did read, I didn''t get any locations. Or none that would be anywhere by the guys.

If you don't want to talk about the relative merits of Jeff pre- or post-haircut then I have nothing to say to you! (but yeah I second this motion)

It's truly a pity I never bothered to read The Great Gatsby. Perhaps this reference to the famous cover might be a good nudge to do just that.

It's a terrific, terrific book. I heard recently that Baz Luhrmann is doing a film adaptation and I am over the moon.

I've only seen 2 of his films (Romeo+Juliet and Moulin Rouge, the latter being one of the few films to make me cry), but if the style of those two is anything to go off of then Great Gatsby would be worth a watch an a read.

@grieck: Great Gatsby is not really Luhrman material in content, and it's very well written, so I think you should just read it. It's really good, more of a social-commentary of the then upper class, but brilliant in many ways.

Ashen Waste: checked and only found a LORD OF THE RINGS-link.

Ashen Waste might refer to a crematorium, or possibly a sort of "resting ground" where people's ashes are scattered/laid to rest...

The old school could be meant (unlikely??)...

Found this link... http://www.newjerseynewsroom.com/commentary/protect-nj-by-treating-coal-ash-like-toxic-waste Seems to be a dead end...

Could it be possible the house in the woods is meant??
Can't find anything else that could fit... EMH guys, if you're trying to point us in a direction, we really don't know where to. Crying or Very sad

EDIT: did some wiki searches, came only up with video games, where it is described that things are located above a burned down ground (ashen waste), mostly close to forests. A link mentioned "more ashen waste than during 9/11", but I don't think ground zero could come up as a hint (seriously, no)...

Anything that is either burned to the ground or anywhere where there is a great mass of ash either in containers or as a huge bulk... as I said, some burned down ground, coal mine, crematorium, resting place with urns...

The Sate of New Jersey Forest Fire Service reports at least ten major forest fires this year. Mira's Great Gatsby reference made the Great Egg Harbor one jump out; do any of the others look promising? I know absolutely nothing about NJ geography.

Ashen Waste reminded me of how Damsel described his parent's death.

Damsel wrote:

Dunno if it's a red herring thought.

The original Slenderman mythos is heavily tied with fires - the original post on SA talked about a fire even. I think we def have to look for the aftermath of a fire - but that's so vague...

Hmm, has anyone actually read Only Revolutions?

Yup. There are no actual places in there, I think.

Checked the postcard. The image could be a hint. Apart from this... can we be sure that this is a reference to a real place? If there is no such place, can we assume HABIT wanted to lead them to a text, then??

I started to read Only Revolutions... about two years ago. I did pull out my copy a few days ago, when I was trying to see the cover for comparison to the postcard. Even if there's no places in it like Anonymousity said, it might have some kind of clue as to what they're looking for, at least. If not, oh, well. I've been meaning to finish it for a while now.
