I think this is the most stretching we've done for a clue yet with these guys, eh?

There HAS to be something in all of our guesses that we're missing.

Ashen Waste might refer to a crematorium, or possibly a sort of "resting ground" where people's ashes are scattered/laid to rest...

The old school could be meant (unlikely??)...

Could it be possible the house in the woods is meant??
Can't find anything else that could fit... EMH guys, if you're trying to point us in a direction, we really don't know where to. Crying or Very sad

Anything that is either burned to the ground or anywhere where there is a great mass of ash either in containers or as a huge bulk... as I said, some burned down ground, coal mine, crematorium, resting place with urns...

Agreeing with the house in the woods, remember when they filmed the rusty thing on the side and said, 'what the hell is that?' ; plus, wasn't it right next to that open thing with the two posts on the side, I vaguely remember someone calling it a 'garden', but maybe more like graveyard (which is what I was thinking at the time, plus it was a little weird that evan just stood on its threshold for a minute)
But as much as I could back that up, it really doesn't feel right. Though I would suppose it would become more important at some point, or at least be explained.

Does anyone remember the large tree that they hung out under in 'A day in the life'? I thought it must have some importance, slendy oft being connected with trees and its size and all, but nothing was done with it, so idk.
And i have no idea if this is important at ALL, but what about the name of the series? 'EverymanHYBRID' Of course it really could just be a nod to MH when the more common monkier of EMH is used, but I wouldn't put it past the guys to have some significance.

To whoever mentioned Salt Lake City, I actually was thinking the post card doesn't look like Jersey at all (or really, anywhere on the east coast). It looks a lot more like desert/prarie with scrubby vegetation than a heavily forested eastern state. Then again, someone else did say there have been like 6 forest fires in Jersey this year? So it could be an area that just burned to the ground I guess.

I spent some time Googling pretty much every western state plus "ashen waste" and got nothing.

Although when I google "land of pale waste" I get only one hit and it's this Unfiction thread, so I am not sure how you came to the Salt Lake City conclusion...

One other thing I came across in my fruitless Googleing was an epic poem by T.S. Eliot called "The Wasteland". Parts of it are set in Germany (hmm...) and London so I doubt it's where the Hybirds are supposed to go. But in any case the poem totally owns and I recommend giving it a read. There are a few references to fire, death, madness etc.

I was joking about Fitzgerald's "valley of ashes", but I really think Damsel's old location might be our best guess at this point.

Was checking out some of the Twitter activity and Jeff seemed to get excited after someone made the Dr. Corenthal/burned down Ohio school connection. I forget - have they addressed any of that yet??

Perhaps a road trip to Ohio is in order....though from the Ohio Trespasser website it seems as though it would be a hard location to investigate.

[edit] Also, has anyone checked out LAND OF ASHEN WASTE as an anagram??

Looking at anagrams... nothing useful so far. Unless you count "Death Ale Fawn Sons" which I am totally reserving for future use as a band name Wink

I think Damsel's old stomping ground is a safe bet right now. But I also want to know what was on that note they found in the dead girls hand. Anyone else curious?

Damsel just posted my favorite Decemberists song! But I really don't understand how it's relevant...

Damsel often posts music that is only marginally relevant or no relevant at all, just for the hell of it. Like that very cool OK Go videoclip.

Eliot was actually one of the first results of my desperate road-to-nowehere Googling - one of my favorite poems, so I hoped it would tie in, but I don't think so, it doesn't really mention any precise location.

Reeeally reaching hypothesis, at this point I'm grasping at straws...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Do you remember that Damsel's pic with the date on it? I'm basically convinced it was a genuine mistake - they do happen, like the whole thing with Alex's vid showed. But if it wasn't, then, the date was April 12, and "The Waste Land" famously starts with the words "April is the cruellest month". Ok, it's basically leading nowhere, but it would lend credit to the idea that the Ashen Waste is Damsel's old house.

EDIT: I dunno, maybe it's because it's the first context I saw that word used, when I studied the play at school, but I always liked to imagine "EverymanHYBRID" is a reference to this. The two stories do have some themes in common, like salvation, and a trip of self-discovery. But those are pretty universal themes.

About the HYBRID part, well, it's in all caps, like HABIT. Which means I'm starting to see patterns where there are none and I should go to sleep.

That sounds like somebody may have figured it out, no?

If it is Damsel's old home, that'll be somewhere withing commuting distance of Birmingham, AL. According to a June 22 post she attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts before fleeing up north, and according to a July 9 post she was able to go home after school in the afternoons.

I'm not convinced this is the right path, though. Since the guys (except Evan) have been distancing themselves from Damsel, why would Habit send them a Damsel-centric clue?

I seriously hope somebody did because it's breaking my brain.

And about the Damsel thing, yeah. I think it's too much of a stretch, despite being the one who proposed it. I'm not good when things are too vague.
