Also, this is a bit off-topic, but Alex's dog better not end up dead because of these Slender-Shenanigans. I'm Team Sparky.

Seconded. I tend to have little reaction to people dying in stories unless it's done really well, but kill the dog and I'll start tearing up.

Oh hell yes. This is becoming my avatar.

I don't think that's wrong. But I don't think it's what Damsel meant, either.

Sometimes we just have to call up occam's razor. Sometimes a whale's just a whale. If you get my meaning.

Sorry for targeting you, you didn't do anything wrong. Just hung up on some of the more out-there theories (Jeff and Damsel had a drunken one-night stand? Really!), I guess.

I enjoy speculation -- just so long as it has its basis in reality.

I get what you are saying. I just think with someone like Damsel, what the simplest answer actually is is shifting. You have to remember Occam's razor is not only "the simplest answer is the best", but that "entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity". In the case of Damsel, I'd say necessity demands that we look beyond the physical. Rarely does she explain things in a straight-forward, down to earth manner. She has a flair for the dramatic, you know?

She certainly does.

But her speech is more actually vague than symbolic.

Perhaps I'm just seeing ghosts where there are shadows, but I think in this case since the latter half of her statement is figurative(they closed the door on me), or at least I'm assuming as much since I doubt she showed up at Jeff's house and he physically slammed a door in her face, then it is safe to at least hypothesize that the former part of her statement is also figurative.

I can also secede that it could be a physical door, it just doesn't seem as likely to me. The only door that seems to fit the events would be the one that led to the whole "Slender-portal" thing that took them to the beach-front scene.

I can agree with that reasoning.

OK, so what's up with Damsel's song selections?

(Thanks be to Google, I had no idea what any of these were.)

1. "No, I Don't Remember", Anna Ternheim
2. "Famous Last Words", My Chemical Romance
3. "(Hospital Vespers)/(Manifest)", The Weakerthans

I have a hard time hearing the Terhneim song as anything other than an elegy to the early days of a relationship, sung as things have gone flat or started breaking up. The line "the secrets codes and signs, you and I, eye to eye" jumps out for obvious reasons.

The difficult thing is, it sees to me that the intent of the song seems strong and clear, but it seems counter to anything that makes sense coming from Damsel. The only person in-universe we know she's had any sort of interaction with is Jessa, but the song doesn't seem very "please come back" at all. To my mind, the lyrics and delivery suggest that the object of the song is still present physically, but perhaps distant emotionally.

This might work if Damsel had been on the inside all along, presented to the audience as an outsider but actually part of the EH crew. That might be a possibility if the guys were still making any pretense at all that the unusual happenings were still being faked, but that boat sailed long ago. Maybe she was having a Capulet/Montague thing with Evan behind everybody's backs--including the audience's--but that seems like a stretch.

The My Chemical Romance song...wow. I knew a band by that name existed, but I'd never had the pleasure of hearing them. I hope I never do again.

Leading off with "I know that I can make you stay" suggests, again, that the song is directed at somebody who is already present. The rest of the song suggests, again, that this somebody has been closer than a BFF's boyfriend and his buds.

The Weakerthans song is quite nice, but creepy as hell. The first part strongly suggests the song is directed toward someone being involuntarily confined, and the bit in the second part about "[calling] requests through heating-vents, and [hearing] them answered with a whisper, 'No'" could echo that. That second bit also could imply that the singer is the captor.

I'm fresh out of theories, except for believing that a *huge* amount of stuff has been going on behind the scenes in-game, and not just recently. The third song seems teasingly to support the "Jessa's in Damsel's closet" notion, but that's still a ginormous stretch. I really hope we can some more clues, or even an infodump, soon.

Offtopic: I actually kind of like that MCR song, but I can never watch the music video because the lead singer's eyes terrify me.

To me, given these three songs, it seems like Damsel and Jeff were having an affair behind Jessa's back. I think Alex knows about it, too. It smacked of a lover's spat when I first read the twitter posts, but I dismissed that theory initially. Now though, I'm really not sure what to think.

Okay... so I'm willing to accept that that thing was the rake... but somewhere, in the back of my head "slender-streaking" will always be the more beloved of the two possibilities.

And as to why Slender man was naked, I return to my earlier theory on what exactly a Slenderman/Rake hybrid would imply. And it is not pretty!

I was making myself not go there, but yeah, that makes perfect sense. That could also explain why Alex doesn't seem too very puzzled about why Jessa disappeared on him.
