Hello! Long time lurker (seriously, I've been watching EMH since the first "invisible" video, after binging on Marble Hornets the day before); first time poster. I bloody love this bloody series, although I am rueing the fact that it takes place in the US *shakes fist*

I wouldn't normally jump out of the shadows like this, except that I did notice a song I don't think anyone else has (exciting for me)! Do forgive me if someone mentioned it a hundred pages ago - I have read every single one, but though I'm sure I haven't missed anything, maybe dark forces are messing with my mind...

In "Jeff", there's a song playing around the 1:40 mark. Alex says that it must be Jeff's alarm clock that has gone off. The song that's playing is from the Xbox360 video game Alan Wake, by the fictional band Old Gods of Asgard, and it's called "The Poet and the Muse". The specific bit that's playing starts around 1:57 here. *serious research face*

So, why do we care? Except for the fact that it's a really good song (listen to the end, for reals)? Well, because Alan Wake is a video game about a writer who moves to a small out-of-the-way town to cure his writer's block, but his wife goes missing and horrible dark creatures start stalking him and trying to kill him.

And, spoiler-marked for your convenience because it's a bloody awesome game that if you have an Xbox360 you should absolutely get:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The song is a clue for Alan, as the chorus tells him to "find the lady with the light, gone mad from the night" - who's another character in the game that holds the secret to destroying the darkness. It's probably the most important song in the game. And, yes I know I'm reaching here, but when Jeff seeks out Dr Corenthal, doesn't he go and talk to a lady who's standing with a light behind her, who seems a little scared/unhinged? She's even the same age as the character from Alan Wake.

So. Probably doesn't give us any actual clues as such, but it's a nice little gamer in-joke and hint that Jeff has gone off to find some answers, and (hopefully!) something which I am the first to notice.

There. Great work from everyone else on every other aspect of the game, by the way - you guys knock me (and my browser) out with how quick you are. Very Happy

The Old Gods of Asgard connection in "Jeff" was made a while ago, and while we all enjoyed some rampant speculation, it all seemed to die down after a page or two.
I think the general concensus of our mass guessing was that there must be a "lady with the light" in the plot, and that it was probably Damsel (i.e. Jeff needed Damsel's help to find Jessa). Though your point puts that whole situation in a new light. Also, welcome, now you can NEVER LEAVE

Interesting; Damsel posted the same song. Looks like the two have more in common than a mutual acquaintance.

I'm honestly getting the sense that at least evan and vince were placed in the ark while children. We know that time is severely affected in there, they're watching the first episodes of the series (7 months ago) and reacting like it'd been so long that they can't remember ever doing it. In the bible the ark served to preserve the life in the world so it could flourish after the great flood, and while I do not think this place is supposed to be a safe haven for them the last letter did bring an interesting possibility to my mind.

If Slender Man doesn't like sharing so where better to keep them all to himself than a place removed from time altogether? This is a bit shaky in terms of Evan since we don't really know if Slendy took any interest in him before but since the Rake also inhabits this place perhaps he drove him there as well.

As for the question of how could they slip if they have families it could easily be the same as us not wanting to tell them about the papers. Their young children disappear without a trace and one day years later return with no apparent aging, many people would refer to that as a miracle. The families not wanting to inject any more trauma into an already trying time simply decide to work from there and do their best to have a happy life. A child would not be aware of the standard hallmarks of time displacement, changed politics, new world events, etc. simply because those don't matter to them. For them all they know is their toys got shinier.

I know there are many holes in this and don't hold it to be the certified truth in the series but with what we know this seems to bet way to account for the time discrepancy. I really don't like the parallel versions/relatives theory because I don't think they'd go through the trouble of releasing this information in such a way if it was not directly tied to the three.

what was highlighted in jeff's copy of HOL when evan and vince searched his room? didn't have something to do with time travel, or time standing still, or something?

It was:

Why did god create a dual universe?
So he could say:
"Be not like me. I am alone."
And it might be heard.

Slightly off topic, but I just checked- this thread has grown 227 pages in a month.

Either we're crazy or we're gonna need a subforum soon.

A subforum would be useful, or a practice of creating new threads for new information and leaving this a thread for speculation. Also useful, since a large number of people seem to be unwilling to use the wiki or to slog through posts to play catch-up, might be an index thread with a regularly updated first post containing The Story Thus Far and major theories.

EDIT: If people would like an index thread, I can start putting one together.

Man, wouldn't that take forever? Surely you cannot do it alone... Wink

Well, much of the heavy lifting has already been done with the timeline. Smile

For the rest, I'm seeing at either being a crowd-sourced effort or working like sourdough bread, depending on your preference in metaphors. I'll put up a starter post and then add to it things that I stupidly forgot that are brought up in subsequent posts to the thread.

Anybody interested?

Perhaps if we start to use more than one thread with a label like [EMH], like "[EMH] Box 3 Analysis" or "[EMH] Welcome to the Ark" that would show the need. And would be easier to read too.

This is a good idea. Perhaps we should start a team of dedicated theory archivists for EMH. Very Happy

I volunteer for the team!

So I haven't checked this thread in a couple days...

Did anyone go to the new coordinates yet?
