I only think that because Evan is hardcore against slendy. He wants him dead, gone, away, which seems to also be the motive of the Rake,

Woooooooah, back up. When have we ever seen those two interacting at all, let alone showing a distaste for each other?

We have no basis what so ever for the motives of The Rake. There isn't even mention of trying to destroy Slender Man outside of Evan. Somewhere along the line someone tried to make the random packages out to be clues from the mystery HABIT entity as clues to destroy Slender Man, and someone else connected them to The Rake. There's absolutely zero in story collaboration for this.
Um, wouldn't that connection require the Rake to be numerate and literate? And to get those coordinates, computer-savvy?

I can't see it crawling around the woods and crawlspaces it lairs in toting an iPad around.

I have to admit, that bit verged on camp, even despite Alex's excellent delivery of the lines. I think they're going to have to basically just ignore that, lest the family find itself involved in yet another missing persons case.
The fact that the employers didn't seem bothered is kind of odd. But I suppose there are ways to rationalise it (the exterminator in question might have been a deeply unreliable person and they figured that him just walking off the job saved them the hassle of firing him).

Of course when they start finding body parts in the crawlspace...

It's also entirely possible he's self employed

Yeah it's pretty clear that he's not self employed.

Could be an independent worker just sent out by an agency... though they'd still be more curious than these people seem to be.

Unless they're used to their employees getting snatched by powerful supernatural entities

Just goes to show, if there is a weak point in your story that's where people will poke at it the most. Cause I'm sure the Exterminator is where they expected us to concentrate all our effort. (Not that I'm not guilty of it myself.)

Well, I think it's a lot like the story IT, by Stephen King. In the town where it takes place, there are a lot of unsolved murders and disappearances, but the town never really bats an eyelash at it or reports it or investigates it too well simply because the entity, IT, won't allow them to. He exerts such an influence over reality that he can calm the entire town at will in order to keep his existence a secret.

Who's to say Slenderman or The Rake can't do the same thing?

Heh! I think the reason for the Exterminator Examination is twofold:

1) As you say, it is kind of a weak spot in the narrative, unless they're setting up the Jeffnalex family to be murder suspects when body parts start appearing, which is unlikely but would be an interesting genre-mashing twist.

2) Other than the exterminator bit, the new video is highly effective and affecting. It does a great job of pulling us viewers in and heightening our emotions. It's the sort of thing that makes us want to talk about it, but other than the fact that Alex is in danger and feels isolated there doesn't seem to be much to discuss. The Mystery of the Exterminator is the only hook we have, so that's where all our energies get directed.

Here's hoping we get an update (about Alex, not the exterminator) today, and soon. Maybe that will break the tension and allow us to let Anonymous Exterminator rest in peace. Smile

This is just making me think of how the Sunnydale adults/PD attributed any and all vampire activity to kids on PCP. Laughing

Although both come from this place where adults are useless. And given how little Alex seems to want to tell his parents all this crazy shit going on, maybe you're right, and adults really are useless here. (Some of the main EMH guys do seem to be playing a little younger than the age I would have pegged them at.)

Anyway, I got a YouTube message dated today from Alex. (I'm not sure how the youtube messaging queue works to say if it was actually sent today, but it wasn't there when went to bed last night.)

it's not about jeff not believing me but how he would re-act. He's not in the right mind at the moment and this will NOT help him

Most definitely, to the point where sometimes it's a little crazy. Jeff and Alex must have the world's most negligent parents. I think it's been a horror convention since slasher movies took off, but it's still kind of amusing.

I've been wondering about that. Alex definitely looks older than 15-16 to me, but I seem to recall that one of the OOG videos from Jeff's personal Youtube channel put him at about that age. I think the title was something like "My 15 year old brother", and it was from last fall or something. He definitely looks, to me, older than the jonsclub kids, who are supposed to be college students.

Wow, good job! Ask him how he thinks Jeff will feel if he finds his little brother ripped to shreds by a malformed albino. Although you might want to word it a little more politely than that. Smile

Ok like I woke up to a lot of pages, so I only skimmed so apologizes if this was discussed before:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First off, to me it sounded like he woke up to the body of the exterminator at the foot of his bed.

It probably is the rake, but to me the body fits better (and yes, I know the rake usually sits at the foot of your bed)

Plus if a monster was sitting at the foot of the bed, you'd run away.

If a body was at the foot of your bed, you'd probably think 'well he's already fucked, I'm going to make sure I dont die first'

And was that the rake at the end of the video sliding across the floor, or his bat?

...Gosh this is all terrible, I'm going to hide it under a spoiler now Embarassed
