That's fairly interesting, Tamsynn. If those are the words, then Jeff knew Jessa was going somewhere.

Did someone identify where on the timeline that scene fit in?

That would make sense, though it makes me wonder why Jeff acts the way he does if she actually told him she was going for some purpose.

First of all, thank you for getting someone to lip read that, Tamsynn! I love the idea that Jessa might be a lot more active in all this than we've been led to believe so far.

As for why Jeff's acting the way he is about all this... just because he knew Jessa may have been, idk, doing something dangerous (although what isn't dangerous with Slendy and the Rake roaming about?) doesn't mean that he did not expect her to return. So, one, when she was gone an unexpected amount of time, he freaked. Jessa may also have left him vague at best on the details of what she was doing, so he really doesn't know where she went, or where to even start looking for her.

Now, as to why he hasn't shared what she was doing with us, I don't know. Perhaps he thinks it will only serve to put her in more danger. Or would put us in the same danger they're all in. (Too late, buddy.)

Although the revelation that Jeff and Jessa spoke about her going away before she disappeared makes Jeff's response to her disappearance to run away south in search of information about/contact with Dr. Corenthal make slightly more sense.

Especially if Jessalyn=Linnie (or [redacted], I suppose). I've grown immensely fond of that theory over the past ten, twelve hours or so. Smile

I have been keeping up with this thread for a fair while now, I just haven't had much to contribute.

I do have a little something regarding the bit in the Centralia video, with Jeff and his girlfriend where the audio is muted. My cousin is hearing impaired, and is a fair hand at reading lips. I finally got to sit her down and have her run over that section with me earlier today. She couldn't give me anything conclusive with the jittery video quality, but she is fairly sure that she can make out the last half of what the girlfriend says. The first half is completely unintelligible to her.

The last three sentences or so are something along the lines of:

"I have to go, but it's okay. It will be alright. We will be just fine."

Not sure how terribly helpful that is, or if it has been covered, but this thread moves way to fast to keep up some days.

That's so awesome you know someone that can read lips... are there any other "silent" clips we can think of that lip reading would be useful in?

Not that we want to like, exploit her or anything, that's just... I wish I could read lips.

Okay... so... I want to say this gives more evidence to the idea that Jessa is the one responsible for the clues. Why, I don't know.

Also, just got the Inquisition reference. FOR THE EMPRA!

Well, there's the rub. If Jeff knew about Jessa's intent to go off the grid in some fashion, then his subsequent freak out, to me, doesn't make much sense. His desire to get info and the like works, yes, but the freak out over Damsel, his frantic, manic way of dealing with it, and the 'Thirteen Year Old Girl' video don't add up. Not to mention Congratulations Magus, where he's in a stupor over her 'death'. To me it makes him seem inconsistent, or some Slenderaction happened to fiddle with his mind, making him lose some of these details.

Alternatively, a more mundane solution could be that that scene was about her going off to college and him being worried and/or sad. His freak out over her poofing and throwing blame on Damsel might make sense in that context- Damsel would really be the last person to see her alive, as he claimed. We can't know since we don't know the words before this, but just felt I should throw that out there for consideration..... We can't see the words.... Oh god, I made a bad pun.

You know, I feel really dumb for not thinking about this, but given when the conversation would have had to have happened (Jeff has short hair in the clip, Jessa's still around, therefore set, what, during the last week or so of July or the first couple weeks of August?), this explanation makes a lot of sense. Depending on the schedule, it could have been only a week or two before she was going to leave for school. If they were going to be going to different schools and spending significant amounts of time away from each other (for the first time in their relationship?), that could absolutely lead to a conversation like the one in the clip.

Yeah, I sort of figured, we're all so focused on every little thing being a part of some ulterior plot, plan, or mind-fuck that we're not seeing that they're still two kids in a rather cute romance. I'm not saying there ISN'T some mindfuckery going on here, or that there may not be some ulterior action or plot, but still, they're a couple. They can get cuddly and cute and intimate without it being some plot. Hell, if I had a girlfriend within hugging distance as cute as Jessa, I'd be doing the exact same thing. Wink

We worked with it a little bit more and made no progress on the rest of what Jessa is saying. The clip just isn't stable enough to make it out.

I am personally of a mind that the conversation itself was fairly mundane in terms of content. The inclusion of the short scene just heightens the horror, to me. I think it is inserted as a subtle reminder of what is lost, with no clue as to the future. It is one of those situations that illustrates the kind of ridiculously cute, head-over-heels in love thing these two had going on, and the separation under unknown circumstances leaves your mind to fill in all the blanks as to her fate. Mourning her loss, and sympathizing for the young lovers, and at the same time, dreading the revelations regarding her. One of those subtle shuffling-in-the-dark sorts of things.

I almost hope that her ultimate fate is never revealed within the confines of the game, unless it is by insinuation or completely off screen. The unknown creeping horror my imagination stirs up is far worse than anything you can really show me.

There's nothing to suggest Slenderman is not capable of communication. One of the earliest Slendermedia presentations was an interview with... now what was it, I listened to it a long time ago and was too freaked out to listen to the whole thing... it was an interview with a photographer or something, who was the last to see a bunch of kids alive, and he's babbling about Slenderman, and Slenderman's voice appears out of nowhere and bricks are shat.
That, and "Take solace in the rain, my children. It only means I'm near." is sooooo something that Slenderman would say. Though I do suspect Slender-possession specifically.

And that said... this letter with Corenthal has me wondering if maybe he was the one writing that. Though there was nobody in the house at the computer, he could have posted them from elsewhere. He does so love to say "my children"... but it's still such a Slenderman thing...

You... don't think that maybe... maybe the origin of EMH Slendy is that he is Dr. Corenthal? It's a fluid mythos, after all.

Or maybe you're close enough that they figure they can do more with you.

Msheadwound already hit on this, but I think it's worth mentioning again. If Jeff knew Jessa was heading out on (say) a 48 hour solo mission, and then had heard nothing from her for 96 hours, and then 5 days, and then a week, and then forever, then the freakout and subsequent behavior make sense.

This might also add some more plot relevance to the August 8 tweets, from a week before Jessa's disappearance: "Jessa and I took a nice stroll just outside of Lambertville, NJ last night. Such a beautiful area" They weren't just out for a romantic stroll, they were doing recon.

Or this. This, too, makes perfect sense. They are just so adorable together.

May be a bit lat but I've been thinking about the fact that the Dr. believes them all to be dead. We've had the time discrepancy and how this bit that further complicates the potential relationship between the kids back then and the EMH crew. It could be at that time most of them had been taken and stored in the ark save for Linnie. If Corenthal knew something terrible had been following them, for them to just disappear would be almost as good as dead in his eyes.

A flock of seagulls and a haircut. That's about it.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Someone got a letter in the mail and posted it, revealing more details about Corenthal's relationship with the Hybrid Babies. Dixie Wolf pointed out it sounded a lot like a dream she'd had about the series, and was freaked out, but there were doubts that it was just a gamejack, since it was rather startlingly direct. Then, a twitter update from the MYSTERIOUS ALLCAPS POSTER established that it was a real, in-game document.

TL;DR: Not only do the guys lurk this thread, they're conspiring against you =_=
